WINGS BENEATH (D. Tanti) jumped in at the start forcing TICKLE ME ALMO (J.P. Stanley) in onto LORRIE’S FAVORITE (App B. Looker), which had to be checked and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of OZZIBELLE (K. Sawyers).
MYSTICAL SANDS (C. Small) and PEPPSEELON (D. Green) came together on jumping away.
Near the 1100m MYSTICAL SANDS shifted out and in doing so forced PEPPSEELON out onto ESSENCE’NRESTRAINT (D. Griffin), which in turn forced WINGS BENEATH (D. Tanti) wider on the track. K. Pope the rider of OFTEN WRONG explained that as he had concerns with the horse’s actions from a point near the 600m he elected to retire the mare out of the event approaching the 350m. A post race veterinary examination of OFTEN WRONG failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Trainer R. Lipp will be advised that OFTEN WRONG would have to compete satisfactorily in an official trial prior to being permitted to race again.
Stewards inquired into a complaint lodged by part-owner Mr S. Kirkham regarding App B. Looker’s riding of TRISKELE, in particular as to his appearing to unduly look to his inside rounding the home turn. Mr Kirkham further added that connections were concerned that App Looker had not ridden to specific instructions which would have had the horse positioned with cover close to the lead. In response to the concerns of Mr Kirkham, App Looker explained that after TRISKELE had jumped away awkwardly he attempted to position the horse with cover as instructed however, was unable to settle TRISKELE and the horse overraced. App Looker added that rather than being caught wide and restraining he allowed TRISKELE to stride forward to assume the lead. After assuming the lead he had attempted to restrain the horse however, it continued to pull hard. In relation to his looking around on the home turn App Looker explained that he had glanced to the inside initially on straightening to ascertain if any horses were challenging inside. App Looker added that whilst again looking shortly after straightening he agreed he had looked to ensure that he was clear of runners, exercising his duty of care. App Looker further added that near the 250m TRISKELE shifted out abruptly resulting in him becoming unbalanced in the straight. After considering the evidence of both parties stewards noted the complaint lodged and felt there had been no infringement of the Rules by App Looker.
