SUPPLEMENTARY

Races 5 & 6 - As Jockey L Cassidy was to be overweight, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Cassidy was fined the sum of $200 in each instance.

Jockey B El-Issa pleaded guilty to two charges under AR137A5(a)(ii) for using the whip in a forehand manner on 7 occasions prior to the 100m on MERRYANNA at Doomben on 26 December 2010 and on 9 occasions prior to the 100m on SUNSHINE ANGEL in Race 1 at today’s meeting. Jockey El-Issa had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 3 meetings and 4 meetings respectively with both penalties to be served concurrently. The suspension will commence at midnight Wednesday 5 January 2011 and will expire at midnight 9 January 2011. When assessing penalty Stewards considered B El-Issa’s poor record in relation to breaches under this rule.

Race 1: Stuart James Memorial One Metro Win H’cap – 2200m
1st – Sunshine Angel 2nd – Patmoss 3rd – The Clandy Man Can 4th – Son of Benny

Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer R Heathcote to have MR NICHOLAS’ slow track embargo lifted today.

Trainer R Heathcote was fined the sum of $100 for late rider notification of Jockey J Bowditch on MR NICHOLAS.

MR NICHOLAS (J Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.

MR NICHOLAS over-raced in the early stages of the event.

BRANCH STACKER (K Forrester) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

Rounding the turn out of the straight near the 1800m KASAFUEGO (J Byrne) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of THE CLANDY MAN CAN (L Cassidy) which shifted in when not fully clear.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight SON OF BENNY (App. B Wallace) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of NORTEPOPPY (P Hammersley) failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

App. B Wallace (SON OF BENNY) was fined the sum of $300 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg over his declared weight.

Race 2: Gold Coast Turf Club Starcraft 3yo H’cap Quality – 2200m
1st – Kate’s Message 2nd – Princess Forse 3rd – Always Loyal 4th – Playaction

Connections of PLAYACTION (W D’Avila) advised Stewards they intend to ride the horse with cover if possible. PLAYACTION was ridden accordingly.

The start of this race was delayed when PRINCESS FORSE (L Cassidy) which was fractious in the barrier had to be withdrawn and examined by the veterinary surgeon. PRINCESS FORSE was subsequently cleared suitable to race.

PLAYACTION over-raced in the early stages of the event.

Approaching the 700m ALWAYS LOYAL (S Galloway) shifted out to improve taking PLAYACTION wider on the track for a short distance.

PLAYACTION laid in under pressure in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of GOLD SUCCESS (J Bowditch) revealed the gelding to have dislodged a tooth cap.

A post-race veterinary examination of DRAGON ROCKER (J Holder) revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer D Peoples was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness including the results of an endoscopic examination before DRAGON ROCKER races again.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey C Munce regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of DIADEM TRIST. Jockey Munce stated that the filly enjoyed a nice run throughout and travelled well however, when he placed her under pressure to improve into the race past the 600m DIADEM TRIST failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing thereafter. Jockey Munce further stated that he believed the filly may have reached the end of its preparation.

Race 3: GCCC QTIS 2yo H’cap – 900m
1st – Pepper Jet 2nd – Ingham Magic 3rd – Five O’Clock 4th – Lurking Lilli

BLACK MONTY (W D’Avila) shifted in at the start taking WINDS ME UP (P Hammersley) in on to INGHAM MAGIC (L Cassidy) tightening the running of that horse which shifted in and hampered VORTEX (C Munce).

Jockey G Colless reported that his mount, FIVE O’CLOCK, lost its footing behind as the start was effected and as a result lost ground.

WALK AND TALK jumped inwards at the start and made contact with the off side barrier partition and then shifted out abruptly.

WALK AND TALK, CRAIGLEA HARMONY (App. C McIver) and FIVE O’CLOCK raced wide throughout the event.

Jockey J Byrne rider of BORN SO BEAUTIFUL reported that the filly was unable to muster speed in the early stages and due to the soft surface he chose not to ride the filly too aggressively and as it was having its first start in a race and was racing greenly, he felt it would be more beneficial to the horse’s chances to have it travel within itself to enable it to finish the race off. Jockey Byrne added that this obviously resulted in him settling further back than he would have liked and BORN SO BEAUTIFUL did continue to race greenly when placed under pressure and in his opinion finished the race off quite well.

A post-race veterinary examination of WALK AND TALK which finished a distant last failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of LURKING LILLI (B El-Issa) revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer M Nolan was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness for LURKING LILLI before the filly races again.

Race 4: Master Floor Preparers Fillies and mares Class 6 Plate – 1200m
1st – Cicarelli 2nd – Win A Million 3rd – Chaste 4th – Lady Selene

CATALAN MISS (J Holder) stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer G Heinrich was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly.

STELLAFIRE (J Bowditch) was slow to begin.

PRINCESS QUALO (L Cassidy), GAG ORDER (B Stewart), HULL CITY (J Byrne) & GUISSEPINO (C McIver) raced wide throughout the event.

Near the 800m HULL CITY had to be checked when tightened for room between LADY SELENE (M Cahill) and GAG ORDER which after being tightened for room by PRINCESS QUALO, shifted in and away from that runner. As a result of HULL CITY being checked, GUISSEPINO which was following was also hampered and taken wider on the track. L Cassidy the rider of PRINCESS QUALO was issued with a reprimand for the initial tightening to GAG ORDER.

Rounding the home turn LADY SELENE shifted out to improve taking GAG ORDER and HULL CITY wider on the track.

STELLAFIRE (J Bowditch) was held up for clear running over the final 200m of the event and as a result went to the line without being fully tested.

Leaving the 200m CATALAN MISS (J Holder) was momentarily held up for clear running at the heels of CLASSIC RUSH (G Colless).

Race 5: Party In The Paddock Two Metro Wins H’cap - 1400m
1st – Lake George 2nd – Miss Cutie 3rd – Ombre 4th – Eire of Magic

OMBRE (B El-Issa) was slow to begin.

EIRE OF MAGIC (App. B Wallace) raced wide throughout the event.

Mr L Richardson Trainer of IN A BIND which bled from both nostrils was advised that the horse will now incur a 3 month ban from racing under AR53A.

Race 6: Attwood Marshall Bat Out Of Hell H’cap Quality – 900m
1st – Paprika 2nd – Leapfrog 3rd – Beethog 4th – Multire Music

After the winning post Jockey P Hammersley was dislodged from PAPRIKA. As Jockey Hammersley was receiving medical attention and unable to be weighed in and as it was the Stewards’ opinion that it would be impractical to weigh Jockey Hammersley, Stewards acting under the provisions of AR142, gave correct weight on the numbers semaphored. Jockey Hammersley was subsequently declared unfit to ride by the ambulance officers and rider replacements were made as per Stewards’ Race Day Summary.

BURDEKIN BLUES (S Scriven) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out hampering BEETHOG (JP Stanley).

DAUNTING LAD (B El-Issa), CHANGING EYES (J Holder) and MORCOMBE (App. M Palmer) were all tightened for room at the start between PAPRIKA (P Hammersley) which shifted in slightly and MONASHEE DANCER (J Bowditch) which shifted out.

Near the 800m FALVELINA (S Galloway) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between BACKSTABBER (J Byrne) which shifted out slightly and WARRIOR GIRL (App. J Piper) which shifted in. App. J Piper rider of WARRIOR GIRL was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Leaving the 600m BEETHOG shifted in and away from WARRIOR GIRL (App. J Piper) despite the efforts of its rider, taking BURDEKIN BLUES in on to INANNA (M Cahill) which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Stewards were conscious of the manners of BEETHOG and therefore did not take any direct action other than to advise all riders to exercise due care. In this incident DAUNTING LAD (B El-Issa) which was trailing INANNA had to be checked to avoid its heels when it lost ground.

Race 7: Commercial Kitchen Company Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 6 Plate – 1200m
1st – Facile Tigre 2nd – Rokatoko 3rd – Metallurgical 4th – Lucky Leak

Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer K Schweida to scratch UNSUPERVISED at 12.30 pm due to rain on the track and a possible downgrading.

Connections advised that from the wide barrier STREETSON (P Hammersley) would be ridden back in the field with cover. STREETSON was ridden towards the rear of the field before being unable to be restrained by its rider when racing fiercely and had to be shifted wider on the track to avoid the heels of other runners. STREETSON then raced extremely wide for the remainder of the event.

NEWLY ELECTED (C Munce) and ROKATOKO (G Colless) were slow to begin.

STREETSON (App. L Rolls) and METALLURGICAL (S Galloway) were hampered at the start when tightened for room between LIFEBUOY (App. C McIver) which shifted in slightly and THE JOKER (J Bowditch) which shifted out.

Race 8: Coastal Tipper Hire QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m
1st – Celtic Dancer 2nd – Liesele 3rd – Ready To Rip 4th – Audacious Spirit

AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (D Griffin) and LIESELE (C McIver) were tightened at the start between MINGTON (J Byrne) which became awkward and shifted out and G’DAY OLD MATE (App. M Hellyer) which shifted in.

STARTSMEUP (G Colless) shifted in at the start and made heavy contact with COMMANDING LASS (App. B Wallace) which in turn was taken in on to FLYING MINSTREL (S Galloway) which was hampered.

Near the 800m G’DAY OLD MATE shifted in tightening the running of MINGTON which in turn shifted in making heavy contact with FANCIFUL (B El-Issa).

FLYING MINSTREL, CHOSEN TO FLY (B Stewart), STARTSMEUP, GENTLE GIANT (J Holder), SPIRIT OF BOOM (L Cassidy) and COMMANDING LASS raced wide throughout.

FLYING MINSTREL commenced to tire badly near the 500m resulting in G’DAY OLD MATE which was trailing striking the heels of FLYING MINSTREL and blundering badly nearly dislodging its rider, App. M Hellyer. SPIRIT OF BOOM which was trailing G’DAY OLD MATE was obliged to alter course abruptly to avoid G’DAY OLD MATE.

Trainer of FLYING MINSTREL, T Bailey, advised that he would recommend to connections that the horse be gelded and sent for an immediate spell. Mr Bailey however undertook to trial the horse to the satisfaction of Stewards if connections wish to proceed with the horse’s current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of FLYING MINSTREL failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of G’DAY OLD MATE (App. M Hellyer) failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey L Cassidy in respect of the tactics employed on SPIRIT OF BOOM. Jockey Cassidy stated that he was instructed to ride the horse just behind the speed however the horse failed to show its customary early pace as a result of the extremely heavy surface and he felt it beneficial to restrain the horse to a position worse than mid-field and obtain some cover. Jockey Cassidy further stated that he was forced to check SPIRIT OF BOOM rounding the home turn from the heels of G’DAY OLD MATE and was again impeded for clear running for a short distance behind the tiring CHOSEN TO FLY and whilst the horse ran home fairly, and in the circumstances he was not completely dissatisfied with the horse’s effort.

Jockey J Byrne reported that MINGTON did not handle the rain affected surface today.
