Thomas and advised stewards it would be his intention that the filly go for an immediate spell. After considering all submissions stewards advised Mr Smith that HIDDEN LADY must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of HIDDEN LADY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

When questioned regarding the performance of BALTORO, which finished some distance from the field, trainer N. Stewart was unable to offer any tangible explanation and advised stewards it would be his intention that the gelding be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination of BALTORO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. After hearing all submissions stewards advised N. Stewart that BALTORO must show improved performances by way of country meetings before being permitted to race at provincial or metro TAB meetings.

Race 2: Smartskip Maiden SW 3YO & Up Plate – 900m
1st – Monsieur Noverre 2nd – Stellar Choice 3rd – Ipso Facto Selecto 4th – Fair Swap

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer J. Jarvis as to the reason why he failed to declare D. Missen as the rider of MONSIEUR NOVERRE by the required time.

Due to a clerical error App M. McGuren the rider of VALHALLAZA was incorrectly shown as claiming 3kg when in fact his provincial claim is 2kg.

I AM BUT A FOOL (E. Kehoe) began awkwardly.

Race 3: Lloyds Dominion Valuation Services Maiden SW Plate -1100m

The start of this race was delayed when FLAMING AURA (T. Treichel) proved difficult to load. Trainer’s representative P. Keating was advised that FLAMING AURA must obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by A. Pattillo the rider of SEVEN WONDERS which finished third against BRIGADOON EXPRESS (T. Huxham) being declared second on the grounds of alleged interference at the start. After taking evidence and viewing the official patrol film it was established that the tightening to SEVEN WONDERS was a combination of a shift outwards by BUNDU BOY (K. Forrester) and a shift inwards by BRIGADOON EXPRESS ridden by T. Huxham resulting in SEVEN WONDERS being tightened and losing ground. Due to the contributing factors stewards dismissed the objection and correct weight was given on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

FLAMING AURA began awkwardly and shifted in inconveniencing NIABRO (D. Missen).

TOUGH TAIMZ (D. Tanti) shifted in under pressure near the 300m making contact with LADY WHO (D. Griffin), which in turn shifted in making contact with FLAMING AURA.

A post race veterinary examination of FLAMING AURA, which compounded near the finish line, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards questioned C. Whiteley the rider of NOT DECLARED into the riding tactics adopted in the early stages of the event. C. Whiteley stated that his instructions were not to place the horse under too much pressure early and hold the horse together in an endeavour to have the gelding finish the race off. He further stated that after beginning well and bearing in mind his instructions he was unable to hold his position initially with the superior speed to his outside and when approaching the 900m turn elected to ease and balance his mount. He added that he commenced to place the horse under pressure leaving the 600m and in his opinion the horse finished the race off fairly. Trainer S. Croxford concurred with the riding instructions and the explanation tendered by C. Whiteley. After hearing all submissions and viewing the official patrol film stewards took no further action.

Race 6: Wanless 13 Waste Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1300m
1st – Finn Class 2nd – Savage River 3rd – Margani 4th – Bella Heritage

As M. Johnson was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted D. Green to be substituted as the rider of SHE’S GOT ISSUES.

Trainer K. Hickmott requested no whip be used on RETRACTED.

Correct weight was delayed to afford D. Griffin the rider of BELLA HERITAGE the opportunity to view the official stewards’ patrol footage in an endeavour to see if he had grounds to lodge an objection against MARGANI (L. Cheshire) the third placegetter over the final 300m. After viewing the film D. Griffin elected not to proceed and correct weight was given on the judge’s placings as semaphored.

HYACINTHS’N’HONEY and SHE’S GOT ISSUES (D. Green) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

A post race veterinary examination of HYACINTHS’N’HONEY revealed the horse to have suffered a laceration to its off front knee.
