1st – Fiery Lad 2nd – All Is Gold 3rd – McNeice 4th – Silverberg
MCNEICE (C. Whiteley) began awkwardly.
Near the 600m ALL IS GOLD (Michael Palmer) had to be steadied from the heels of SILVERBERG (App R. Jamieson). GIFT OF THE DAY (App A. Holt) which was following had to be steadied as a consequence.
Approaching the 500m GIFT OF THE DAY commenced to hang out inconveniencing ZABEAUTY (App A. Badger) and as a result shifted wider on the track. GIFT OF THE DAY then continued to hang out for the remainder of the race. T. Whittington the trainer of GIFT OF THE DAY was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
ALL IS GOLD had a tendency to hang out rounding the home turn.
A post race veterinary examination of ZABEAUTY, which proved disappointing, revealed no significant abnormalities.
A post race veterinary examination of GIFT OF THE DAY which raced below market expectations revealed a delayed post race recovery. Trainer T. Whittington undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to his attention which may have had an affect on the horse’s performance in the days subsequent to the event.
When questioned into the improved performance of FIERY LAD trainer R. Hurley stated that whilst the stable has been disappointed with FIERY LAD’S most recent runs, bearing in mind they had been after a lengthy lay off, he was of the opinion that the benefit of 2 recent runs and the change of gear to the addition of pacifiers may have been beneficial to the horse’s performance. He further added that after beginning well FIERY LAD was able to race in the lead which is more suited to the horse’s natural racing pattern whereas, after beginning only fairly at its previous starts it was obliged to race back in the field. Mr Hurley further advised stewards that the stable had not supported FIERY LAD for today’s race. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 2: Novotel Brisbane Maiden 4YO & Up SW Plate – 1200m
1st – Tango King 2nd – Mockba 3rd – Tallai Gold 4th – Raising Hope

MOCKBA and TANGO KING (C. Whiteley) both overraced in the early and middle stages of the race.
LALUN LOVER (App M. McKenzie) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned J. Stanley regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CHIDE. J. Stanley stated that after beginning slowly the horse was positioned back in the field and never travelled comfortably throughout the race. He further added that in his opinion CHIDE may be better suited with the addition of blinkers which were removed from the horse for this start. J. Stanley indicated that CHIDE may also appreciate races of a further distance than that of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation. Stable representative L. Kelly Jnr advised stewards it would be the intention that blinkers again be added to the horse’s gear.
Race 3: Provista Maiden H’Cap – 1400m

VEYSONNAZ (D. Tanti) began very awkwardly and lost ground.
Stewards questioned App D. McWhinney into his riding of BUTCH and the fact that he raced 3 wide throughout the event. App McWhinney advised stewards that his intention had been to take a position closer to the running rail behind HEART THROB (D. Griffin) and NEOMAGIC (L. Rolls), which were the noted speed runners, however once other runners had improved to his inside he was unable to shift in and as a result was obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event. Shortly after the start NEW RANGER (D. Tanti) shifted out making contact with SHOW ME AN ACE (L. Rolls), which threw its head in the air and lost ground.
Near the 1000m URNFIELD (D. Griffin) had to be restrained off the heels of TOY RULER (App A. Hearn) for some distance, which after obtaining the lead commenced to steady the pace. App A. Hearn the rider of TOY RULER was severely reprimanded and advised to show much greater care in similar circumstances.
Leaving the 1000m SHOW ME AN ACE began to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of CHART (App A. Holt) and as a result then shifted to a 3 wide position.

Both UNTOWARD (C. Whiteley) and DON’T WALK AWAY had a tendency to hang in when placed under pressure in the straight.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of AL NASSMA App M. McKenzie advised stewards that in his opinion the horse failed to run out the 1800m of today’s journey. Trainer S. Strazzieri was unable to offer any tangible explanation. In view of today’s performance stewards advised Mr Strazzieri that AL NASSMA would be unable to start at metro and provincial TAB meetings until such time its form improves through way of country meetings. A post race veterinary examination of AL NASSMA failed to reveal any abnormalities.
