SUPPLEMENTARY:
As J. Lloyd was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
As a result of J. Byrne being unable to fulfil his commitments at Ipswich on 15 March 2013 due to back soreness, he was advised by stewards he would be required to be examined by the Club’s Doctor on arrival at today’s meeting and be cleared in order to fulfil his rides. The Club’s Doctor after examining J. Byrne reported to stewards that in his opinion J. Byrne was still suffering from lower back soreness and would not be fit to fulfil his riding engagements today. J. Byrne disagreed with this assessment and made submissions to seek a second opinion from a medical practitioner away from the racecourse. Stewards acceded to this request and J. Byrne subsequently obtained a medical clearance from Pindara Hospital and was permitted to fulfil his riding engagements from Race 3. Due to the delay in J. Byrne obtaining the medical clearance he was replaced in Races 1 and 2 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: 1 Equine Racing Supplements OMW SC H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Mukaddamah Son 2nd – Denwood 3rd – Veeten 4th – Sand Biscuit
SWEET AND VICIOUS (J. Morris) was slow to begin.
Rounding the first turn near the 1500m PRECIOUS MANDY (R. McMahon) broke down and was taken wider on the track by its rider. This resulted in SERIOUSLY READY (K. Wharton) being taken much wider on the track at that point and DENWOOD (G. Killen), which was following having to be checked. As a result of SERIOUSLY READY being taken wider it was allowed to stride forward to take the lead near the 1000m. PRECIOUS MANDY was eased down and retired from the race. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the mare to have fractured its near fore sesamoid and as a result of PRECIOUS MANDY had to be euthanised on humane grounds.
PLAYITSTRAIGHT (P. Hammersley) was unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn.
VEETEN (M. Cahill) was disappointed for a run near the 250m between MANICERO (App P. Schmidt) and LADY OSCAR (L. Cheshire), which shifted in under pressure.
Approaching the 100m VEETEN obtained a narrow run between LADY OSCAR and MANICERO, which shifted out slightly resulting in VEETEN making contact with the hind quarters of MANICERO.
Trainer L. Ross reported that SWEET AND VICIOUS failed to back up from racing on a heavy track at its most recent start and the mare will now be sent for a spell.
Race 2: Sirromet Wines Open H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Dolly Dolly 2nd – Gold Shears 3rd – Boys On Tour 4th – Bang On
R. McMahon advised that it was not his intention to ride BANG ON in a forward position but when trapped wide in the early stages he elected to ride the mare forward.
Stewards sought an explanation from App A. Allen and trainer B. Baldwin regarding the riding tactics and overall performance of MR LIGHT BLUE. App Allen explained that he was instructed to ride MR LIGHT BLUE in a forward position consistent with the horse’s customary racing pattern however, after beginning a little awkwardly MR LIGHT BLUE was unable to muster the necessary speed in the early stages despite his urgings. App Allen further added that MR LIGHT BLUE did not travel comfortably in the early and middle stages and didn’t quicken under riding in the home straight. Trainer B. Baldwin confirmed the instructions and also agreed that MR LIGHT BLUE did not appear to travel well during the race. Mr Baldwin added that MR LIGHT BLUE has not raced for a month and would take a fitness benefit from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination of MR LIGHT BLUE revealed no significant findings.
App P. Schmidt was asked to explain the disappointing performance of CASH ‘N’ STYLE. App Schmidt stated that CASH ‘N’ STYLE enjoyed a nice run in the lead in the early and middle stages but when asked to quicken rounding the home turn the gelding was immediately under pressure and was disappointing with its failure to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of the thumps. Trainer S. O’dea was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to CASH ‘N’ STYLE again racing.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Dead 4 respective.
Race 3: The Liquor Shack Class 6 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Alltherightmoves 2nd – Commandare 3rd – Florida Fellow 4th – Private Express
EMVOSS (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
Near the 1100m COME SAID THE BOY (M. Cahill) appeared to shy and blundered resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and being dislodged. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer P. Nolan Jnr will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to COME SAID THE BOY again racing.
Near the 1000m the riderless COME SAID THE BOY shifted out and hampered EMVOSS.
PRIVATE EXPRESS (M. Hellyer) shifted in a short distance after the start crowding the running of COMMANDARE (App M. Vance) for some distance. At a subsequent inquiry M. Hellyer the rider of PRIVATE EXPRESS was informed that he must stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground sooner than he had on this occasion.
Passing the 600m the riderless COME SAID THE BOY shifted out and hampered EMVOSS taking that runner wider on the track.
R. McMahon reported that although EMVOSS was inconvenienced on a number of occasions in the early and middle stages by the riderless COME SAID THE BOY it did not travel comfortably and he had to urge the gelding along just to maintain contact with the main body of the field. R. McMahon added that EMVOSS did make steady ground in the home straight when placed under pressure.
Race 4: Australian Insurance Solutions Benchmark 85 H’Cap – 900m
1st – Frisco Lights 2nd – Tornadoes 3rd – Mr Favulous 4th – Rocket To Glory

QUEENOFBEAUDESERT, HAIZUM and JOPA (C. Whiteley) all raced wide throughout the event.
When asked to explain the performance of DOUBLE IMAGE jockey J. Morris stated that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited in races of a further distance than that of today’s race. J. Morris added that DOUBLE IMAGE was unable to quicken when placed under pressure which he attributed to carrying 58 ½ kilos.
M. Cahill was unable to explain the disappointing performance of SPIRIT OF FLATLEY other than that the gelding jumped awkwardly and lost some ground. Trainer K. Wood also expressed disappointment but added that in his opinion the gelding will take a fitness benefit from today’s race.
A post race veterinary examination of QUEENOFBEAUDESERT revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer H. Van Hoeyen will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to QUEENOFBEAUDESERT again racing.
Race 5: Sky Racing QTIS 2YO SW Plate – 1200m
1st – Tinto 2nd – Going Going Gone 3rd – Total Authority 4th – Nude Secrets
Trainer G. Duncan advised it would be the intention to ride NUDE SECRETS back in the field today from its wide barrier.
SUNSET HILLS (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
NUDE SECRETS (G. Cooksley) from a wide barrier was restrained to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail.

FLAGGES FLYING (J. Taylor) lost its footing on jumping away and conceded ground.

Soon after straightening KING LUDWIG had to be eased when tightened for room between HOLY TOLEDO (G. Cooksley) and CHANGE OFTEN, which shifted out in an attempt to improve. D. Browne the rider of CHANGE OFTEN was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
FRETON (App G .Goold) was held up for clear running on that heels of FLAGGES FLYING for some distance passing the 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill regarding the performance of TRAGEDY. M. Cahill stated that TRAGEDY travelled well in a trailing position in the early and middle stages and he had specific instructions to attempt to get the gelding to the outside in the home straight but he was prevented from doing this rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight when LITTLE BROWN HORSE had improved to his outside, which resulted in him being momentarily held up on the heels of FLAGGES FLYING. M. Cahill added that in his opinion had he been able to improve in to the race when he would have liked TRAGEDY would have finished in the placings.
Matthew Palmer reported that KARL THE GREAT seemed to resent racing inside horses when placed under pressure in the home straight and as a result hung in over the final 100m. M. Palmer added that he had recommended to trainer K. Fleming that blinkers be applied and the horse be ridden in the lead in future starts.

LITTLE LONG HORN (J. Byrne) and POWERFUL JET (J. Taylor) made contact at the start.
G. Colless the rider of CONGO was issued with a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that leaving the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TOP RADA (D. Browne), which improved to the inside of CONGO when overracing and had to be checked. After hearing further submissions from jockey Colless stewards in consideration of the racing manners of TOP RADA felt a charge could not be sustained and G. Colless was found not guilty.

POWERFUL JET, ITCHINTOWIN (C. Whiteley) and OUTBACK FIGHTER (App P. Schmidt) all raced wide throughout the event.
