SUPPLEMENTARY:

Acting on veterinary advice Stewards permitted the following late withdrawals at 9.35 am:

Race 1 – Threescoreandten
Race 1 – Nyanda Crossing
Race 8 – Arctic Red

Race 1:Chesterfield John Deere 2yo H’cap – 900m
1st – Shapin Lady 2nd – Casarati 3rd – Women be Shopping 4th – Dead Head: Solo Saga & Decillion

App. JK Johnson (CHURCHILL GEM) was fined the sum of $300 for failing to claim her full allowance. In assessing penalty stewards took into consideration her poor record in this regard.

PIC’S GAL (A Pattillo) was slow to begin.

DECILLION (C McIver) began awkwardly and lost ground

MURTLE MISS (Matthew Palmer) jumped away awkwardly.

SENOR MONDO (C Whiteley) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with GRANDKIDS ROCK (J Taylor).

SOLO SAGA (M McKenzie) jumped outwards at the start taking CASARATI (J Morris) out on to WOMEN BE SHOPPING (T Wolfgram).

Near the 800m SENOR MONDO which was racing greenly hung out resulting in MURTLE MISS shifting out and bumping heavily with SOLO SAGA. SENOR MONDO continued to race greenly for the remainder of the event.

Jockey J Morris (CASARATI) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 600m when not clear of MURTLE MISS resulting in that horse having to be checked. Jockey Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to commence midnight 03/04/2013 and to expire midnight 13/04/2013.

SHAPIN LADY (R Jamieson) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of MURTLE MISS, Jockey Matthew Palmer explained that the filly raced greenly throughout and after receiving interference near the 600m MURTLE MISS was immediately under pressure and slightly disappointing with its finishing effort in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of PIC’S GAL which finished a distant last failed to reveal any significant findings other than the filly cast its near hind plate in running.

Race 2: Cadbury H’cap – 2200m
1st – Soul Crusade 2nd – Rundle Heights 3rd – Bellinger Valley 4th – Deep Cove

As Jockey Mitchell Speers was to be overweight, he was replaced on SOUL CRUSADE by Jockey Matthew Palmer. Jockey Mitchell Speers was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

Stewards permitted App. R Jamieson to replace App. B Appo on HOT BICKIES when App. Appo was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time.

Near the 1600m SIR STANLEY (T Jeffries) commenced to over-race and shifted out resulting in BELL ACADEMY (S Drake) being taken wider on the track.

Stewards questioned App. T Jeffries regarding the riding tactics she adopted on SIR STANLEY which settled at the rear of the field which is in contrast to its established racing pattern. App. Jeffries explained that she was instructed to lead or settle in a forward position today, however, SIR STANLEY was slow to begin and soon after the start she was reluctant to ride the gelding with urgency as it has shown in previous starts to have a tendency to pull hard in the early and middle stages of its races. App. Jeffries conceded that approaching the winning post on the first occasion it would have been a better option to allow SIR STANLEY to stride forward and take a trailing position on the back of BELLINGER VALLEY (A Pattillo) which would have resulted in her mount settling in a mid-field position rather than being shuffled back to the rear of the field. Stewards advised App. Jeffries that in their opinion her ride today lacked judgment, however, bearing in mind her relative inexperience and the manners of SIR STANLEY at the start, they did not feel any direct action was warranted.

App. T Jeffries was issued with a reprimand for using her whip in a backhand manner in the home straight when SIR STANLEY was out of contention.

Jockey S Drake will be interviewed regarding the use of her whip in the home straight on BELL ACADEMY.

Race 3: Dracula’s Haunted House Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Phoenix Force 2nd – Dashing charger 3rd – Lovethenightlife 4th – Thaiday

OLD FEELING (M McKenzie) began awkwardly.

After travelling a short distance NODLAND (A Holt) was inclined to hang out and as a result lost ground. NODLAND continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride in the early stages of the event.

App. T Jeffries (ZAPPA THE ROCKSTAR) was issued with a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting her mount to shift out near the 600m when not sufficiently clear of NODLAND resulting in NODLAND having to be checked when tightened for room between ZAPPA THE ROCKSTAR and PARACHARM (L Cheshire). After hearing further submissions from App. Jeffries, and her representative Ms Stephanie Watkins, the inquiry was adjourned to allow Ms Jeffries Master, Mr Barry Baldwin, to be present.

A post-race veterinary examination of SENSIBLE ME which compounded in the home straight failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

App. M McKenzie could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of OLD FEELING adding that the gelding was under heavy pressure from the 600m and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of OLD FEELING (M McKenzie) failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 4: Infinity Surfers Paradise Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Polar Blitz 2nd – Roman Secret 3rd – Bearded Dragon 4th – Nicky Nocky

MAGIC CADRE (A Holt) was slow to begin.

ROMAN SECRET (A Spinks) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped POLAR BLITZ (Michael Palmer).

Near the 900m POLAR BLITZ when over-racing had to be restrained from the heels of LOCHTORIO (T Wolfgram).

IT’S A SNIP (A Pattillo) and RODIA (D Green) raced wide throughout the event.

At the entrance to the straight ROMAN SECRET shifted out around the heels of IT’S A SNIP to improve and bumped RODIA.

LOCHTORIO was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

Race 5: Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Here’s Roger 2nd – Touch a Star 3rd – Beer with Friends 4th – Xena Express

TRUSTED LOVE (A Pattillo) was a late withdrawal at 2.00 pm by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice.

Stewards permitted App. R Jamieson to replace App. A Holt on TEARS when App. Holt was to be overweight. App. Holt was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

TEARS (R Jamieson) and XENA EXPRESS (A Spinks) bumped at the start.

Near the 900m TEARS had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of MARKET TYCOON (S Sheargold) which shifted in.

After passing the 300m TOUCH A STAR (T Wolfgram) shifted in and brushed the hindquarters of TEARS.

Approaching the 200m TEARS which had been held up for clear running was disappointed for a run between XENA EXPRESS and SEEING GOLD (D Green) when that runner shifted out. Following thisTEARS had difficulty securing clear running until inside the final 100m.

App. T Wolfgram (TOUCH A STAR) was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to shift out after passing the 100m when not fully clear of MARKET TYCOON which resulted in MARKET TYCOON which was weakening having to be steadied.

An inquiry was adjourned into App. JK Johnson’s riding of BEER WITH FRIENDS over the concluding stages.

Race 6: Wimmers Soft Drink Class 4 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Solar Heart 2nd – Love Our Girls 3rd – Heart Throb 4th – Desert Playboy

CRYON (Matthew Palmer) was slow to begin.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by Jockey A Spinks (HEART THROB), App. JK Johnson (FLAGGES FLYING) and App. M McKenzie (HAVASNIP) in the early and middle stages where they challenged for the lead and set a fast tempo. After hearing evidence from all riders and representatives of App. McKenzie and App. Johnson, Stewards accepted the explanation from Jockey Spinks in that once challenged in the lead near the 1000m HEART THROB began to over-race and hang out which placed him at a disadvantage in restraining his mount. Stewards adjourned the inquiry into the riding of both App. JK Johnson and App. M McKenzie in their respective mounts to allow their Masters to be present.

FLAGGES FLYING (JK Johnson) suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The gelding will incur a mandatory three month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A.

A post-race veterinary examination of HAVASNIP (M McKenzie) failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 7: Barrier Reef Pools Fillies and Mares Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – My Shabella 2nd – Keeninska 3rd – Spontaneity 4th – Don’t Tell Cyril

Trainer J Morrisey was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare Michael Palmer as the rider on PINK BRIETTA by the prescribed time.

MIDNIGHT FURY (A Spinks) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in and bumped PARSNIPS (A Holt).

SWEET REWARD (R Jamieson) was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m.

Jockey JP Stanley reported that after beginning well it was his intention to cross the runners to his inside and attempt to lead on POET’S WISH, however, near the 1000m his mount seemed to shy becoming unbalanced and for this reason he settled in a mid-field position 3 wide.

A post-race veterinary examination of KEENINSKA (Matthew Palmer) revealed the mare to have been galloped on and to have sustained a small laceration to the off hind canon.

Race 8: Sci Fleeet Hino Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Baton Twirler 2nd – Substation 3rd – Missamork 4th – Windsplitter

Trainer T White advised Stewards that it was the intention to have MISSAMORK (M Gray) ridden in a mid-field position with cover if possible. After being slow to begin MISSAMORK settled at the rear of the field.

DOUGHTY (Matthew Palmer) reared and became momentarily cast in the barriers. After being withdrawn from the barriers and examined by the veterinary surgeon DOUGHTY was a late withdrawal by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 4.22pm. All monies invested on DOUGHTY were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 4.22pm:

15 cents in the dollar for the win - # 7 (BATON TWIRLER)
18 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - # 7 (BATON TWIRLER)
9 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - # 2 (SUBSTATION)
18 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - # 13 (MISSAMORK)

Trainer K Doughty was advised that DOUGHTY is required to compete in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.

MISSAMORK (Matthew Gray) was slow to begin.

Trainer G Heinrich was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of BATON TWIRLER. Ms Heinrich explained that BATON TWIRLER is best suited when ridden aggressively throughout its races and although the gelding has been inconsistent she was confident of a forward showing as its work had improved and was successful in a jump out last Tuesday.

Jockey A Spinks the rider of the leader, OUTRIDER, was questioned regarding the reason for him shifting out on the home turn enabling SUBSTATION (A Holt) to obtain a run to his inside. Jockey Spinks explained that in his opinion the inside section of the track was inferior and for this reason he allowed his mount to shift out to make his run wider on the track. Stewards accepted his explanation.

Race 9: 2.Steve (Holiday Boy) Hawkins Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Run Away Ruby 2nd – Dudley 3rd – General Explorer 4th – Omission

Stewards permitted App. R Jamieson to replace App. A Holt on UNSEEN when App. Holt was to be overweight. App. Holt was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

SHARMA (D Hayse) which kicked out in the barriers was removed and examined by the veterinary surgeon. SHARMA was subsequently passed to race.

OMISSION (M Speers) was slow to begin.

YOU’RE MINE (S Sheargold), BULLETONTHEWIND (Michael Palmer) and DUDLEY (K Stanley) raced three wide throughout.

GO THE BLAZE (Matthew Palmer) was disappointed for clear running in the home straight until the 150m.

Trainer T Wolfgram was asked to explain the improved performance of RUN AWAY RUBY. Ms Wolfgram stated that the mare in her opinion performed poorly at its most recent start as it failed to run out a strong 1600m and also did not handle the prevailing track conditions on that particular day. She added that RUN AWAY RUBY was better suited to a drop back in distance of 1400m and racing on a good track.
