From 01/01/2014 at Eagle Farm – Race 8 - Trainer B Baldwin reported that THE RIGHT ONE was found to be lame behind following the race. Mr Baldwin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for THE RIGHT ONE before it is permitted to race again.

As Jockey L Cassidy was to be overweight, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Cassidy was subsequently fined the sum of $400.

As Jockey R McMahon was to be overweight, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey McMahon was subsequently fined the sum of $500.

Race 1: Coastal Tipper Hire 2YO H’cap – 1200m
1st – No Problem 2nd – Star Drop 3rd – First Rain 4th – Tales of Fashion

Trainer T Bailey advised that TALES OF FASHION (T Bell) would be ridden in behind the speed should circumstances permit. TALES OF FASHION was ridden accordingly.

The start of this race was delayed due to the inside running rail near the 800m having to be repaired.

STAR DROP (G Colless) was slow to begin.

NO PROBLEM (M Cahill) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with GHERARDINI (L Cassidy).

PLATINUM GRAY (R McMahon) began awkwardly.

FEELIN’ THE HEAT (J Byrne) raced fiercely in the early stages and approaching the 1000m shifted out and made contact with NO PROBLEM and became unbalanced and lost ground.

HOT TEMPO (J Taylor) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

NO PROBLEM and FIRST RAIN (R Wiggins) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

TALES OF FASHION (T Bell) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m.

App. T Harrison reported at scale that BURLEIGH BULLET hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight which placed her at a disadvantage by not being able to fully test her horse.

When asked to explain the performance of SPIRT OF JOY, Rider C Munce stated that the filly never travelled comfortably and he had to ride with vigour to cross TALES OF FASHION and obtain the lead passing the 800m. Jockey Munce added that SPIRT OF JOY was inclined to hang out for the majority of the event and rounding the home turn made contact with GHERARDINI on a number of occasions. He further added that SPIRIT OF JOY may not have appreciated today’s firm surface. A post-race veterinary examination of SPIRIT OF JOY did not reveal any significant findings at the time of examination. A re-examination a short time later revealed SPIRIT OF JOY to be lame in the off fore leg. Connections will be advised that a certificate of fitness will be required before the filly races again.

Race 2: GCTC Ladies Day 3YO H’cap – 1800m
1st – Navelina 2nd – Hot Saga 3rd – Our Zidane 4th – Forelock

ANONYMISS KITTY (T Bell) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with HOT SAGA (E Wilkinson).

NAVELINA (P Schmidt) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Passing the 200m NAVELINA shifted out and inconvenienced ANONYMISS KITTY.

When questioned regarding the performance of SOME CALL HER WILD, rider C Munce stated that the filly travelled well throughout the race and soon after straightening, quickened, however, peaked on its run over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination of SOME CALL HER WILD revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg and both hind legs and was suffering a mild case of heat stress. Trainer L Ross was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for SOME CALL HER WILD before her next race start.

When questioned as to the tactics adopted on RUDY, Jockey L Cassidy stated that leaving the 800m SOME CALL HER WILD improved to his outside at which point he was reluctant to force SOME CALL HER WILD wider as he would have been obliged to make a sustained run home from that point of the race. Jockey Cassidy added that as a consequence he was disappointed for a run between GRANDKIDS ROCK (A Allen) and DON ELLA (V Colgan) leaving the 500m which resulted in him being taken back through the field when other runners improved to his outside. Jockey Cassidy also stated that upon straightening he was again disappointed for a run to the inside of DON ELLA and was forced to ease and shift to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running in the home straight before being held up again over the concluding stages of the event. After viewing the patrol film Stewards accepted the explanation of Jockey Cassidy.

Race 3: GCTC Ladies Day Benchmark 80 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Typhoon Red 2nd – Jopa 3rd – Primed to Win 4th – Viking Heart

Jockey B Stewart was examined by the club doctor after being stood down at Rockhampton on 3 January 2014 and was subsequently cleared to fulfil his engagements.

THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (R Wiggins) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m HAMPDEN (R Jamieson) when surrendering the lead to AFTER BARON (K Matheson) began to over-race, shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

Approaching the 800m JOPA (A Allen) improved on to the heels of COUNTRY COMMAND (t Bell), shifted out and was forced to race wide from that point onwards.

Rounding the home turn PRIMED TO WIN (C Whiteley) was held up and unable to improve and had to alter course to the outside of the heels of TYPHOON RED (G Goold).

HAMPDEN was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

App. A Allen rider of JOPA dropped his whip near the 300m.

THIRSTY FOR BLOOD was held up for clear running approaching the 200m.

When questioned as to the performance of BELIEVE‘N’RECEIVE, Jockey Glen Colless stated that he was required to pressure the gelding in the early stages to take up a forward position. Jockey Colless added that BELIEVE’N’RECEIVE was inclined to over-race in the middle stages when the tempo slowed. He was also of the view that today’s pattern of racing was benefiting runners positioned wider in the home straight. Due to these factors he was not entirely disappointed with the gelding’s performance.

Race 4: Attwood Marshall Lawyers Bat Out of Hell (Quality) – 900m
1st – Plateau Gold 2nd – The Ringmaster 3rd – All That 4th – Tornadoes

As Jockey Michael Palmer was indisposed through illness, he was replaced by Jockey C Whiteley on FRISCO LIGHTS.

TORNADOES (A Taylor), BATTEN THE HATCHES (E Wilkinson) and SALUTE TO JUDE (R Jamieson) were slow to begin.

SALUTE TO JUDE and THE RINGMASTER (T Bell) raced wide throughout the event.

THE RINGMASTER was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

App. A Allen reported at scale that ROCKY KING was inclined to lay out throughout and in his view has come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T Bourke reported that he would monitor ROCKY KING’s progress following the race before deciding if the gelding would be sent for a spell.

Race 5: GCTC Ladies Day 3YO H’cap – 1200m
1st – Flight King 2nd – Into the Red 3rd – Siegfried 4th – Casarati

Trainer J Morrisey advised that DRUM LINE would be ridden with cover today should circumstances permit. DRUM LINE was ridden accordingly and in doing so over-raced in the early and middle stages.

SINGLE CHANCE (M Cahill) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and severely hampered FORWARD SPEED (J Taylor).

MY BOY BRANDO (K Matheson) shifted out at the start and bumped BALLINGALL BOY (V Colgan.

REAL FAVULOUS (C Whiteley) and DRUM LINE (G Colless) came together at the start.

Approaching the 900m JET DOWN ON IT (E Wilkinson) improved between NUDE SECRETS (J P Stanley) and REAL FAVULOUS where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied.

REAL FAVULOUS and JET DOWN ON IT raced 3 wide throughout the event.

MY BOY BRANDO raced extremely wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 400m FORWARD SPEED shifted to the outside of the heels of MY BOY BRANDO in order to improve and took SINGLE CHANCE wider on the track.

After the running of race 5, the track was upgraded to a ‘Good 2’.

Race 6: GCTC Ladies Day Benchmark 85 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Mr Light Blue 2nd – Arctic 3rd – Castlemagne King 4th – Walhaan

Trainer B Baldwin advised that MR LIGHTBLUE (T Bell) would be ridden in a forward position should circumstances permit.

Connections advised that BANG ON (T Harrison) which has been racing back in the field would today be ridden mid-field with cover should circumstances permit – From the wide barrier BANG ON was obliged to settle mid-field and 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

LOVE SHUTTLE (C Munce), HUSH POWER (A Allen) and OBJECT OF VIRTUE (J Taylor) all over-raced in the middle stages of the event.

BANK ON (T Harrison) and HI SON (R Jamieson) raced 3 wide throughout the event.

CASTLEMAGNE KING (C Whiteley) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

OBJECT OF VIRTUE was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

When asked to comment on the performance of HORA SEXTA, Jockey J Byrne stated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to race further back in the field than originally anticipated. Jockey Byrne added that HORA SEXTA was not suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages and as a result was left flat-footed when the field quickened passing the 600m. Trainer P Robbins indicated that following today’s performance he would review HORA SEXTA’s current racing program.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. R Jamieson regarding the riding tactics she adopted on HI SON which settled in a 3 wide position towards the rear of the field which is in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. App. Jamieson stated that she was instructed by trainer David Kelly not to ride the gelding aggressively in the early stages and take up a forward position and instead from the wide barrier, settle the horse where it was comfortable. Stewards will interview David Kelly with regard to these instructions.

Race 7: Carlton Draught Goldmarket (Quality Listed) – 1300m
1st – Trombone Alley 2nd – Gundy Son 3rd – Morning Captain 4th – Spatha

LITTLE BROWN HORSE (T Harrison) was slow to begin.

MISHANI WARRIOR (A Allen) knuckled at the start.

Soon after the start FACILE TIGRE (E Wilkinson) and DE DOZEN STARS (B El-Issa) were severely hampered when tightened for room between SIGNIFIED (R McMahon) which was taken out slightly by KING COBIA (C Munce) and OLLIE VOLLIE (T Bell).

SIGNIFIED and OLLIE VOLLIE raced 3 wide throughout the event.

Over the concluding stages MISHANI WARRIOR was disappointed for clear running.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider C Munce regarding the performance of KING COBIA. C Munce stated that the horse travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages, however when the pace increased approaching the home turn KING COBIA was immediately under pressure and weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of KING COBIA did not reveal any significant findings.

Race 8: GCTC Ladies Day Class 6 4YO and Up – 1200m
1st – Interject 2nd – Star Sammy 3rd – Jacquetta 4th – Mishani Persuader

Trainer T Bailey advised that DEVINARDI (T Harrison) would be ridden in a mid-field position should circumstances permit – Scratched.

Trainer B Hill advised that PHOENIX FORCE (R McMahon) would be ridden towards the rear of the field should circumstances permit – Ridden accordingly.

BLAKEY BOY (J Morris) was a late withdrawal at 3.30 pm by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer M Morris was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before BLAKEY BOY races again.

DEVINARDI broke through the barriers prior to the start and galloped for a considerable distance. DEVINARDI was subsequently withdrawn by order of stewards at 4.47pm. All monies invested on DEVINARDI were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 4.47pm:
