MISS LEIBERT raced 3 wide throughout without cover.

When asked to explain the performance of DIVINE CITY jockey C. Munce stated that he restrained the mare from a wide barrier. However when the tempo of the race slowed after passing the 900m he elected to make a sustained run 3 wide from that point. C. Munce was of the opinion that in the circumstances that DIVINE CITY performed well. Trainer G. Race 7: Avmin – Air Charter Specialists Magic Millions Quality Cup – 1400m
1st – Velrosso 2nd – Phelan Ready 3rd – Club Command 4th – Gundy Son

Stewards questioned trainer K. Fleming acting on a report received from the RQ Integrity Regulatory Unit which had been conducting surveillance prior to today’s meeting that equipment used to stomach drench was located in the feed room of trainer Fleming, which contained a yellow coloured residue. After giving consideration to the evidence provided by Mr Fleming in response to the report, stewards could not be satisfied that LUCKY HUSSLER had, or was likely to have received treatment and accordingly allowed the horse to maintain its engagement in this event. The inquiry was then adjourned until such time as the results of analysis of the substance contained in the equipment were known. The results of blood samples analysed on the blood gas analyser prior to the race were within normal range and a sealed pre race blood sample was also taken from LUCKY HUSSLER.

PHELAN READY was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers at the request of its rider E. Wilkinson and cleared to take its part in the race.

CLUB COMMAND (B. Shinn) blundered at the start.

SNITSKY (J. Collett) raced extremely wide throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Collett regarding the riding tactics he adopted on SNITSKY in the early stages of the race. Of particular concern was Jockey Collett’s failure to obtain a positon closer to the rail when it appeared there was an opportunity to do so. J. Collett stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in a handy position with cover and after beginning well from the wide barrier it was his intention to secure a trailing position behind CLUB COMMAND however, when that runner improved forward he took hold of SNITSKY and attempted to obtain cover in a midfield position. Jockey Collett added that as DOUBTFILLY had improved to his inside approaching the 1000m, and as the tempo of the race had increased he was reluctant to improve forward and attempt to cross CLUB COMMAND as he felt it would have been detrimental to the competitive chances of SNITSKY. Therefore he was obliged to race 4 wide for the remainder of the race. Jockey Collett agreed in hindsight it would have been a better option to press forward in the early stages after beginning well and attempt to cross CLUB COMMAND and gain a position closer to the rail.
