The start was delayed when EURO BELLE cast an off-hind plate at the barriers and was attended to by the farrier.

PLUTOCRAT – Declared a late scratching at 10:20am after becoming injured whilst being transported to the track.

EURO BELLE – Near the 50m, was disappointed for a run and eased when BRILLIANTLY laid in under pressure. Jockey L Dittman the rider of BRILLIANTLY was advised to exercise more care.

SIENNA'S CHOICE – Laid out rounding the home turn.

JUBAI PRIDE – Began awkwardly, losing ground.

XUANNU – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: SKY RACING Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1200 metres

Upon weighing in and prior to the declaration of correct weight it was observed by stewards that jockey R Maloney the rider of ALREADY BLESSED had weighed in 0.5kg under his allotted weight. Jockey Maloney advised that all the gear in which he had weighed out was present and he was unable to explain the reduction in weight. Stewards when considering the provisions of AR209(2)(a), which provides riders with a 0.5kg allowance when weighing in, were satisfied that jockey Maloney had not weighed in underweight in excess of the provided allowance and therefore declared correct weight and took the matter no further other than to remind jockey Maloney to be mindful of his practices when weighing in and out for races.

HIGH COST – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.

PRAIRIE FIRE – Approaching the 800m, was steadied after improving onto heels.

RAGING POLE – Slow to begin.

HOLIDAY DREAMS – Jockey J Orman advised that the gelding travelled comfortably in the leading position in today’s event however when placed under pressure failed to quicken as he expected and ran on only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

DIXON BAY – Near the 900m, was steadied to avoid the heels of ALREADY BLESSED which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey R Maloney the rider of ALREADY BLESSED was advised to exercise more care.

SPENDING MY TIME – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority and approaching the 600m when racing ungenerously, was checked from heels. Near the 200m was tightened for room and checked when racing between FIFTEEN ROUNDS which shifted out after being taken out marginally by PRAIRIE FIRE and SAVVY LAD which shifted in. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the incident could be attributed to any one rider, stewards ruled the matter to be a racing incident.

FESTIVAL PRINCE – Raced four-wide without cover throughout.

FIFTEEN ROUNDS – Slow to begin.

HE KNOWS – Raced four-wide with cover throughout.

Race 3: SEA 90.9 BIANCA, DAN AND BEN BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1800 metres

IRUKANDJI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to both hind bumpers.

OCTAVIAN – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority.

DON'T DESPAIR – Raced three-wide for the majority.

DUNE FORTY FIVE – Slow to begin.

Race 4: ASSURED MANAGEMENT CARBINE CLUB GOLD COAST STAKES 1800 metres

Following the running of race 3 the track was upgraded to a good 4.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey R Wiggins the rider of the 3rd placed HAIL MANHATTAN against STARDOME (S Collet) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 50m. After taking evidence from all parties and reviewing the patrol footage stewards found that near the 50m STARDOME shifted in under pressure making heavy contact with HAIL MANHATTAN which was bumped and became unbalanced. As stewards were satisfied that had this contact not occurred that HAIL MANHATTAN would have finished ahead of STARDOME at the conclusion of the event the objection was upheld, and the judge’s placings amended accordingly.

The start was delayed when ZIGALLENE proved difficult to load.

HAIL MANHATTAN – Improved onto heels entering the home straight and was forced to alter course to the inside to secure clear running.

HAPPY GO PLUCKY – Raced three-wide without cover for the majority.

STAR OF MICHELIN – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

TAMILAIDE ben – Jockey B Thompson reported that the gelding failed to quicken as he had expected in the home straight and in his opinion may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer L Kelly advised that in light of today’s performance the gelding would now be spelled.

SIR BARNABUS – Rounding the home turn was bumped and forced wider. Jockey J Byrne could offer no explanation to the below market expectation performance of the gelding.

HUMBOLT CURRENT – Slow into stride. When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, stable representative Mr B Killian advised that following the horse’s satisfactory performance at Doomben on 1 January 2022, it was sent for a freshen up and as a consequence when racing almost 6 weeks between runs derived a fitness benefit from its run at Doomben on 12 February 2022. Mr Killian added that at its most recent start at Toowoomba the gelding was not suited when racing to the inside of runners when asked to improve over the final 600m and as a consequence was not entirely disappointed with its performance on that occasion. Mr Killian went on to state that as a result of these factors he had expected a forward showing from the gelding in todays event and was not entirely surprised to see the horse win. Stewards noted the explanation.

SUPERGIANT – Held up rounding the home turn.

TAVION PRINCE – Rounding the home turn was bumped on the hind quarters by HAIL MANHATTAN when attempting to secure clear running.

SAYL – Momentarily held up approaching the 200m before shifting to the outside to secure clear running.

Race 5: MARTIN COLLINS OPEN Handicap 900 metres

Stewards opened an inquiry with respect to a report received by QRIC’s Integrity Investigation Team (IIT) in relation to the possible race day treatment of GLOBAL CITIZEN. The Co-trainer of GLOBAL CITIZEN trainer Toby Edmonds provided evidence that the inquiry that gelding had been treated with a product for a hoof condition for some time prior to today’s event. Mr Edmonds added that after the gelding was plated in preparation for today’s event this morning, his staff had inadvertently reapplied the product to the horse’s front hooves. As stewards were satisfied that this action had constituted a race day treatment, they ordered that GLOBAL CITIZEN be declared a late scratching at 12:30pm. Stewards ordered that both blood and urine samples be taken from the gelding for analysis. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to allow for the results of the swab samples to be returned.

THE TENOR – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels rounding the home turn and was eased.

USMANOV – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have overreached in running which resulted in a laceration to the near fore heel. The gelding also cast its near fore plate in running.

Race 6: AQUIS QTIS JEWEL 2YO 1200 metres

TOBA – Bumped on jumping. Jockey S Thornton reported that the gelding failed to travel comfortably at any stage during the event and for that reason she elected to ease the horse down over the final 500m. Trainer R Lipp advised in light of today’s performances the gelding would now be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer R Lipp was advised that in light of todays performance he would be required to barrier trial the gelding prior to next racing.

BURNISH GOLD – Tightened for room at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn and then was bumped by another runner near the 300m.

CLASSIQUE GAL– Bumped on jumping.

LADY FALVELON – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced.
