GENERAL

Stewards declared CRAIGLEA PRISTINE, CRAIGLEA SHERRY (Race 5) and CRAIGLEA WARRIOR (Race 6) late scratchings at 9.07am due to flooding preventing these horses being able to travel to the Gladstone.

Jockey D. Gill pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 160 B (3) in that she had a mobile phone in her possession within the area of the Jockeys room. Jockey Gill was fined $100. In consideration of penalty, Stewards were mindful of reasons and circumstances that arose for Jockey Gill to use and possess a mobile phone.

Race 1: Star Witness Class B Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – NEVACANTEL 2nd – ELEGANCE ON ICE 3rd – NOAH’S SMILE 4th – MIDNIGHT SURRENDER

As Apprentice C. Pye was unable to claim her full allowance, Apprentice F. Freihaut was substituted as the rider of MORE THAN RUBIES.

WINDSONG (M. Cant) began awkwardly and lost ground.

WINDSONG, NEDERBURG (A. Taylor) and NOAH’S SMILE (D. Gill) raced wide throughout the race.

A post-race veterinary inspection of HAYIL METRO revealed a laceration to the off fore cannon. Veterinary treatment was administered. Jockey M. Cullen reported the gelding was hampered at approximately the 800 metres and during the middle stages lay out and did not finish the race off well.

Race 2: Black Piranha Class 6 Plate - 1000 metres
1st – HIGH DEE 2nd – ONCE MORE BROTHER 3rd – MEAN MACHINE 4th – HARDLY A GAME

Jockey J. Stephens was permitted to ride BOBERG one kilogram over weight, given that the handicap weight was 53kg and no senior rider was able to ride at or closer to this weight.

MEAN MACHINE (D. Gill) was a little slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, BOBERG commenced to buck, lost ground and was took no further part in the race and in this incident, KING DEMONIC (App F Freihaut) clipped the heels of BOBERG and Apprentice Freihaut was dislodged. Connections of BOBERG were advised the mare would be required to pass two (2) barrier jump-outs prior to its next race start. Apprentice Freihaut received medical attention and was stood down from her remaining engagement. Apprentice Freihaut was directed to supply a medical prior to her next riding engagements.

Correct weight was delayed as Jockey D. Gill was permitted to view the available patrol film of the star of the race and Jockey M. Cant permitted to view the patrol film in the early part of the straight, with the intention of lodging possible objections against the winner, HIGH DEE. After doing so, both riders did not proceed and correct weight was declared.

On the home turn, ONCE MORE BROTHER was disappointed for a run between MEAN MACHINE (D. Gill) and HIGH DEE (App K. Cross) which had shifted in slightly. ONCE MORE BROTHER was steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running.

Stewards sought an explanation from Apprentice C. Pye in regard to the performance of EAGLE JESTER. Apprentice C. Pye stated that while the gelding had travelled well in the early stages, it was under pressure from approximately the 500 metres and giving ground and in her opinion was disappointing.

Race 3: Typhoon Tracey Maiden Plate - 1000 metres
1st – VANDALISTIC 2nd – ALL SAINTS GIRL 3rd – MAGIC TURBO 4th – MARICOPA

As Jockey A. Coome was to be overweight, T. Bannon was substituted as the rider of ALL SAINTS GIRL.

INTOXICATINGGAL was difficult to load. M. Barnham stated the mare would now be sent for a spell, however a warning would be placed on the mare.

Race 4: Shootout Class 3 Handicap - 850 metres
1st – WE WILL ROCK 2nd – PYPER’S IMAGE 3rd – SIR SOMETHING 4th – MACCACINO

Apprentice C. Pye (MACCACINO) was permitted to claim 1/2kg of her 2kg claim, as no other apprentice was available. Apprentice Pye was fined $100 under AR 92(12) for failing to claim her full allowance in Race 1 and Race 4.

Behind the barriers, Jockey R. Hall was dislodged from FIAMORE, which escaped the course proper riderless prior to be recaptured. As Jockey Hall required medical attention, he was unable to fulfil his engagement and Stewards declared FIAMORE a late scratching at 2.27pm. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on FIAMORE be refunded with deductions of 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply.

GIZA (D. Gill) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, ICE CREAM CHARLIE (M. Cullen) attempted to get its head down and raced ungenerously for a short distance and lost ground.

At approximately the 100 metres, GIZA lay in, which required Jockey Gill to stop riding and straighten the gelding.

IN BOLD FASHION (M. Barnham) raced wide throughout the race.

Race 5: Black Caviar QTIS Maiden Plate- 1194 metres
1st – RULES ARE RULES 2nd – I’M COOL TOO 3rd - JAMDIT 4th – GOLD ADVANCE

Trainer J. Pointon was fined $50 for the late declaration of rider on JUNGLE WOMAN.

As A. Coome was to be overweight, M. Barnham was substituted as the rider of PHOEBE FOR ME. Jockey A. Coome was fined a total of $100 under AR 120 (b) for being overweight in Race 2 and Race 5.

RULES ARE RULES (App C Pye) jumped in onto I’M COOL TOO (M. Cullen)

At approximately the 1000 metres, JAMDIT over-raced for a short distance.

Jockey M. Cant and Apprentice A. Taylor were reminded of the rules relating to use of the whip and what may be considered excessive.

Race 6: Americain Open Handicap- 1194 metres
1st – ZAHOO 2nd – FEISTY MINX

No incidents.

Race 7: So You Think Class 2 Handicap- 1517 metres
1st – TANZILL 2nd – TIC TOC TIGER 3rd – BRAVE THE BOSS 4th – BACK STAGE

As the only apprentice available, Stewards permitted Apprentice C. Pye to replace F. Freihaut on BRAVE THE BOSS, while unable to claim.

RED TSAR (M. Cullen) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1200 metres, OWIE (App K Yoneyama) shifted out, which resulted in RED TSAR and BACK STAGE (M. Barnham) being taken wider on the track.

Apprentice A. Taylor reported SHERBROOKE raced wide for the majority of the race and near the 300 metres hung out and became unbalanced rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

Post-race veterinary inspections of AZADEGAN and ASCEND did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer L Kiernan reported it would his intention that AZADEGAN be retired.
