RACE 1. TAIT AUTO GROUP CLASS B HANDICAP 1200 M
1st MOUNT MORGAN 2nd STEEL TO THE HEEL 3rd CHROMED 4th RED SUIT
MILLERSBURG ( M Dorrington ) and RED SUITE ( C Kearney ) were slow to jump.
MOUNT MORGAN ( R Ride ) shifted in early stages on to CHROMED ( I Coomes ) then made the home turn very wide.
RED SUIT raced fiercely in the middle stages.
Jockey A Taylor asked to explain her riding tactics on STEEL TO THE HEEL. Jockey Taylor explained that she was instructed to ride the gelding from behind as the Trainer P Overall wanted the horse to settle in races as it finished better ridden that way. Jockey Taylor said that her mount began well and was in midfield but wide so she elected to allow the horse to drop back. STEEL TO THE HEEL then raced in last position until the 600m where Jockey Taylor said that she moved to the outside and circled the field making the home very wide. Stewards were of the opinion that although wide in the early stages STEEL TO THE HEEL may have been better served to have remained in that position rather than be taken back and have to make up that ground from the 600m.

SAHARA’S KNIGHT ( I Coombes ) unable to obtain clear running at the 250m.
The rider of PACLIA, M Dorrington questioned concerning his apparent lack of vigor over the last 150m. Jockey Dorrington advised stewards that he had given the horse several strokes with the whip on straitening but it did not respond. Jockey Dorrington said that he felt that the horse was tiring and could not improve its position. Stewards noted the explanation but also felt that the horse was not tested over the latter stages. Jockey Dorrington was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the line in future.
