GORDONVALE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SATURDAY 4/10/03

STEWARDS PANEL:VB GRAY (CHAIRMAN) WAL ABELL

WEATHER –FINE TRACK:- GOOD RAIL –TRUE

RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 Metres

MISS JACOB was slow into galloping action and then raced wide around the 700 metre turn. GOOD OLD DAYS raced wide around the 400 metre turn.

RACE 2: CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

EXCLUSIVE SON jumped out onto FLIPPER VARGEN when the starting stalls opened. MR. JEKYLL moved ground inwardly at the 700 metres and then again at the 500 metres, on both occasions hampering FLIPPER VARGED. Jockey A Merritt received a reprimand for allowing his horse to move ground.

RACE 3: OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 Metres

PROSPECTOR CHIEF moved out, SPACE PRINCE moved in and sandwiched COPRAKHAN as the starting stalls opened. DARK SCOUT and SPACE PRINCE both covered extra ground whilst rounding the 400metre and 700 metre turns.

RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1360 Metres.

The field experienced general tightening as they rounded the 1200 metre turn. WOREE LAD got carted very deep.

RACE 5: GORDONVALE CUP – OPEN HANDICAP – 1800 Metres

The start of the cup was delayed whilst waiting for the Veterinary Surgeon to make his way to the start to inspect BRASSED who had played up in the starting stalls and injured himself. BRASSED was withdrawn on Stewards orders and deductions of .21c for a win and .17c for a place were made from the face value of the ticket. BRASSED was ordered to Trial before starting again. RAFFUTE (App K Penrose) started losing his position mid field at the 800 metres, dropping to the rear of the field and fell snapping his off side front cannon bone at the 400 metres. Apprentice K Penrose was badly shaken and bruised. RAFFUTE was put down by the Vet and an Inquiry was opened in the fall, and adjourned.
