In consultation with the Club, Races 2 – 5 were brought forward due to the inclement weather. A public announcement was made to this effect.

Race 1: Merv Welch Maiden Plate 850m

1st – Lillavardee 2nd- Uston 3rd- Stalwart Bala 4th- Craiglea Danger

Jockey N. Thomas was cleared by paramedics to take his ride after FOMAFLO became fractious in the barriers.

CRAIGLEA DANGER underwent a veterinary examination prior to the start at the request of App. S. Wiseman and was cleared to start.

FLYIN’ OFF (J. Murphy) and CASHEL BLUE (C. Kearney) were both slow to begin.

FIRST PIPEMAJOR (W. Abbey) and USTON (D. Gill) made contact on jumping.

USTON raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from Trainer K. Munce, regarding the seemingly improved performance of LILLAVARDEE. Mr Munce explained that the filly had benefited from a lengthy spell after suffering a muscle tear injury. He added the filly had worked well leading into today’s race and was confident of the filly’s chances. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey N. Thomas regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of FOMAFLO. N. Thomas stated the filly was not entirely comfortable in today’s prevailing track conditions and would be better suited in events over further distance than today’s race. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. S. Wiseman regarding CRAIGLEA DANGER, which performed below market expectations. App. S. Wiseman stated the filly felt lame, and requested the Veterinary Surgeon to inspect the horse behind the barriers. After being cleared to race, she added that the filly was disappointing and still believed that the filly may be lame. Trainer Mr B. Keenan advised the filly did not show any signs of lameness after being taken back to his on course stables.

Race 2: St Pats P&F QTIS Maiden Plate1170m

1st – Governor Royal 2nd – Wrighty 3rd – Jacta Alea Esto 4th – Craiglea Spartan

IVORBEATEM (W. Abbey) was slow to begin.

HUSANI (A. Nicholls) was tightened on jumping between WINDBORNE (R. Hancock) and BOOM SAGA (D. Gill) which shifted in.

ALESTELLE LADY (I. Coombes) hung out rounding the home turn.

KUDA ROCK (C. Kearney), CRAIGLEA SPARTAN (J. Hoopert) and ALESTELLE LADY all raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey A. Nicholls regarding HUSANI, which performed below market expectations. A. Nicholls stated that after being tightened at the start, the gelding resented the kick back from today’s surface. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: Shepherd’s Retravision Class B Handicap 1170m

1st – Stalwart Emma 2nd- Alriodane 3rd- Langtime 4th – Reggie’s Halo

OUR DAISY LANE (N. Thomas) was declared a late scratching at 2.52pm on veterinary advice after the gelding became loose behind the barriers and galloped a lap of the course. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on OUR DAISY LANE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, and 18 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

Jockey N. Thomas reported that OUR DAISY LANE had became fractious after stepping back towards some rubble at the rear of the 1170m chute, resulting in him being dislodged and the mare becoming loose. Given the circumstances, Stewards did not take any action regarding the pre race behaviour of the mare.

LANGTIME (A. Nicholls) who underwent a veterinary examination of scarring from a previous injury behind the barriers and was cleared to start, became fractious in the barriers and momentarily sat on the ground. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

AVOCA BELLE (W. Abbey) and LANGTIME were both slow to begin.

INTHANON (C. Kearney), STALWART EMMA (J. Hoopert) and LANGTIME all raced wide throughout the event.

Race 4: Wealth Directions Class 3 Handicap 1470m

1st – Secret Will 2nd- Arabia 3rd- Swift Cash 4th- Quite Stylish

TANZILL (App. K. Gates) stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Connections of the gelding were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

AL DENTE (S. Bayliss) blundered near the 1150m and became unbalanced.

QUITE STYLISH (D. Gill) raced wide in the middle stages.

WAYNE’S CHOICE (N. Thomas) and ARABIA (R. Hancock) raced wide throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey C. Kearney regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TIC TOC TIGER. C. Kearney stated that the gelding who was fractious in the barriers, began well and then travelled comfortably until placed under pressure near the 400m, where the gelding shortened stride. A post race veterinary examination of TIC TOC TIGER revealed the gelding to have some bruising to the hind quarters.

Race 5: Cooloola Civil Constructions St Pats Cup Open Handicap 1470m

1st – Hot Flushes 2nd- Try Some Magic 3rd- Iluva Queenslander 4th- Patmoss

ILUVA QUEENSLANDER (App. K. Gates) had to be steadied off the heels of HOT FLUSHES (C. Kearney) passing the winning post on the first occasion.

ILUVA QUEENSLANDER blundered near the 1150m, became unbalanced and shifted wider on the track. ILUVA QUEENSLANDER then raced wide in the middle stages of the event.

TRY SOME MAGIC (J. Hoopert) who raced wide throughout the event, was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

App. K Gates reported that after blundering near the 1150m, ILUVA QUEENSLANDER was unable to maintain its position just behind the leaders, resulting in ILUVA QUEENSLANDER settling further back than anticipated.

Stewards sought an explanation from App. S. Wiseman regarding PATMOSS which performed below market expectations. App. S. Wiseman stated that the gelding was unable to match the early speed in today’s race and settled at the rear of the field, however finished the race off well. She further added that PATMOSS was better suited in events of a further distance than today’s race. Stewards noted the explanation.
