Judge – C. Jeffrey

Swab attendant – Dr T. Fisher
Starter – G. Honeywil

Race 1: Gympie Kebabs Mdn Plt – 850m
1st – Savannah Gold 2nd – Baby Rasy 3rd – Oakmantel 4th – Kimsha

As B. Hull was ill, I. Coombes was declared as the replacement rider of KIMSHA.

CRAIGLEA PIXIE (L. Appo) jumped in at the start and bumped OAKMANTEL (R. Hancock) which was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start MISS MOOKYCHICK (App K. Gates), which shifted in, had to be steadied from the heels of CHATZABIT (App T. Wolfgram).

CRAIGLEA PIXIE and MISS MOOKYCHICK raced wide in the early stages.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the trainer of OAKMANTEL, Mr K. Munce and jockey R. Hancock, to view the photo finish of the race as they believed they had past the post in second position. After viewing the image connections were satisfied that they had in fact finished third and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.

Trainer T. Crane reported to stewards following today’s performance of KIMSHA that he would be discussing the immediate racing future of the mare with connections and would be recommending that she be retired from racing.

Jockey R. Hancock pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) of failing to ride OAKMANTEL out to the finish line. Jockey Hancock was issued with a $700 fine, in assessing penalty stewards were of the view that his actions had resulted in OAKMANTEL not finishing in second position.

Race 2: Gympie Funerals Class B H’cap – 1030m
1st – Tradies Hope 2nd – Crystal Mates 3rd – Mirror Man 4th – Ukok Lass

SPIRITOFTHEDRAGON (S. Bayliss) reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground as a result.

OUR BOY BILL (R. Hancock) and CRAIGLEA ENCORE (C. Kearney) were slow to begin.

Jockey L. Appo was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) of not making sufficient effort to prevent CRYSTAL MATES from shifting in approaching the 800m taking TRADIES HOPE (App T. Huxham) in on to INTHANON (I. Coombes) which had to be checked from the heels of TRADIES HOPE. L. Appo’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight October 1 and to finish at midnight October 12.

Leaving the 800m YOU’LL HAVE TO (D. Gill) began to hang out rounding the turn and had to be checked and shift out around the heels of MIRROR MAN (App B-R. Derbyshire). In doing so YOU’LL HAVE TO clipped MIRROR MAN’s heels and blundered. Jockey Gill stated that following this incident YOU’LL HAVE TO hung out badly and was unable to be tested and was pulled up out of the race near the 400m. Trainer B. Gill later reported to stewards that the gelding was distressed immediately after the race but in the days following had recovered well and he was planning to continue with the gelding’s current preparation. Stewards advised Mr Gill that YOU’LL HAVE TO would be required to trial to stewards satisfaction prior to its next race start.

Jockey L. Appo reported to stewards that the saddle shifted on CRYSTAL MATES shortly after the start.

The rider of CRAIGLEA ENCORE, C. Kearney, reported to stewards that he was pleased with the way the filly worked to the line and in his opinion she would be better suited in races of a distance further than today’s event.

The trainer of MIRROR MAN, Mr K. Munce advised stewards that the gelding had lost its off hind plate in running and suffered lacerations to the same leg.

Race 3: Gympie Getaway Travel Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1030m
1st – Unique Fuse 2nd – Master Fibba 3rd – Twogundan 4th – Coz He Wants To

QUEENOFBEAUDESERT (App B. Newport) began awkwardly.

BEFORE THE STORM (I. Coombes), had to be eased shortly after the start, when tightened for room between COZ HE WANTS TO (App T. Wolfgram) and TWOGUNDAN (R. Hancock), both of which shifted ground.

Race 4: Bamblings Rural Mdn Plt – 1170m
1st – Light in the Field 2nd – Benji Bullet 3rd – Contrabandit 4th – Geneva’s Ollie

CONTRABANDIT (I. Coombes) layed out rounding the home turn.
