Race 1: CRUISE INTO XMAS CLASS “B” H'cap Class - Distance - 900m. 6 Starters
1st - Shufta Goulla 2nd - Yowie Bay 3rd - Grass Catcher 4th - Isis Queen.
Jockey Greg Cullen replaced D.Lloyd as the rider of SHUFTA GOULLA after Jockey Lloyd had been declared unfit to ride at this meeting and a medical certificate to that effect was provided. ISIS QUEEN (A.Cox) jumped outwards onto GRASS CATCHER (J.LONG) as the start was effected. GRASS CATCHER raced eratically in the straight. Jockey J.LONG advised that he was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount on several occasions in the straight. Trainer Mr D.AMOS advised he was unable to advance any reason for the gelding racing as it did and advised he intends to race the gelding in blinkers in the future. Mr AMOS was advised that should the gelding race in a similar manner in the future, action will be taken against the horse.
Race 2: INDEPENDENT DISTILLERS Maiden Plate Distance - 900m. 9 Starters

SHACKLES was scratched prior to scratching time. Jockey S. Watkin replaced D.Lloyd as the rider of CHILD BRIDE. WOODWIND AND BRASS (Apprentice Ms P.EDWARDS) jumped into the air as the start was effected causing the gelding to be slow into stride. ARRUBATTUM (J.LONG) was unable to go the early speed and dropped out. CHILD BRIDE (S.Watkin) was forced wide in the straight. Stewards inquired into two incidents which occurred at about the 175 metre area soon after entering the home straight. The first resulting in ULAMONA (G.Kliese) making contact with the running rail and losing ground. Jockey KLIESE stated his mount was beaten at the time and had been passed on the outside by HOUNDING (M.Dale), which drew clear. WOODWIND AND BRASS (Apprentice Ms P.EDWARDS) then came on the outside of ULAMONA and had angled for a run between HOUNDING and ULAMONA and was not clear of ULAMONA when making this run. Apprenctice EDWARDS claimed she had been tightened for room from the outside which caused her problems in controlling her mount. Almost simultaneously, CHILLI CHICKS (A.Cox), which was racing wider on the track and to the rear of the three above mentioned horses, had to be checked and lost ground when MIGHT RECITE (Apprentice Ms T. BANNON) who had been racing to the outside of CHILLI CHICKS rolled in when not sufficiently clear of CHILLI CHICKS, taking that mare’s running. No patrol film was available of the incidents in this particular area of the straight owing to an operational problem. In the circumstances no action was taken against any rider. However Apprentices Ms P.EDWARDS and Ms T.BANNON were both strongly admonished and reminded of their race riding responsibilities concerning the safety of other riders and horses when changing course of direction. Jockey M.DALE was also advised to take more care to keep his mounts on a straight course in the future. CHILLI CHICKS was held up for a clear run approaching the winning post.

Jockey G.Cullen (MISTI LIGHT) reported the mare had to be eased to negotiate the 600 metre turn which caused loss of some ground and when hard ridden in the home straight the mare raced greenly.
