Race 1: Tregasaurus Class B Handicap - Distance – 1200 Metres. (4 Starters).
1st - DESERT TRIUMPH 2nd - PREFERRED GUEST 3rd - BANGALOW 4th- MECHANIC
Both GALAXY RANGER and PIKESTAFF (who was a dual acceptor for the meeting) were scratched after final acceptances. The explanation by the connections of DESERT TRIUMPH for the late declaration of K.Ballard as the rider for that gelding was under the circumstances accepted by the Stewards. No reportable racing incidents in running.
Race 2: Muttaburrasaurus QTIS Maiden Plate - Distance – 1000 Metres (9 Starters).
1st – BAYSIDE STAR 2nd - MULTI QUICK 3rd - HONORS ADVOCATE 4th- PIKESTAFF
The stewards accepted the explanation given by the connections for the late declaration of J. Long as the rider for MULTI QUICK.
WESTERN RIOT (Apprentice S.Kavanagh) and LITTLE PEKPEK (Apprentice Ms P. Edwards) were both very slow into stride when the start was effected losing a considerable amount of ground. Approaching the 500 metre mark MULTI QUICK (J. Long) shifted inwards momentarily, resulting in HONOURS ADVOCATE (A. Spradau), IRISH ADDITION (J. Felix) and AS IF SHE KNOWS (K.Ballard) all being inconvenienced and forced to race in restricted room at that point. Jockey J. Long was advised to exercise more care in the future in similar circumstances. The race winner BAYSIDE STAR was the only placed horse eligible for QTIS prize money.
Race 3: QRSE Saurapod Weight For Age - Distance – 1000 Metres (9 Starters).
1st - WITLACE 2nd - SIGNOR PAGOLINO 3rd - NOOPY 4th- PHONDIL WAY
Both GO TEMPO and GOT US AGAIN were scratched after final acceptances due to no riders being available. Jockey J. Long was semaphored as the rider for PROUD CANADIAN. RAW SEQUAL (Apprentice S.Kavanagh) lost ground in the early and middle stages of the event when unable to maintain contact with the main portion of the field. Trainer Michelle McGuire advised following the event that AWESOME NIGHT had received an eye injury during the running of this event as the result of being struck by a flying clod. (It had rained earlier in the week). Jockey K.Ballard, the rider of SIGNOR PAGOLINO, advised the gelding had not handled the track at any stage during the event, and had made heavy contact with the inside running rail (of its own accord) about the 550 metres mark, resulting in the horse becoming unbalanced for a considerable distance shortly thereafter. Approaching the 150 metre mark NOOPY (Apprentice Ms P. Edwards) shifted inwards marginally and momentarily hampered PROUD CANADIAN (J. Long), which was tiring noticeably at that point. Apprentice Edwards stated she was unaware of any shift from her mount at that stage of the event. Stewards took no further action in relation to this matter other then to bring it to the attention of Apprentice Edwards for educational purposes, when placed in similar circumstances in future.
Race 4: Craiglea Stud & Marrs Furniture Removals Fossil Trail Series Class 3 Handicap - Distance – 1000 Metres (7 Starters).
1st - LAUDERDALE LORD 2nd - JESTERS LAD 3rd - SUCROSE 4th- SLICK SCORE
The explanation by the connections of FLASH ARTHUR, for the late notification of A. Spradau as the rider for that gelding was under the circumstances accepted by the stewards. Both the declared emergencies CHEYENNES POET and BULL BLINCO were not required and therefore were scratched after final acceptances. PETRO RANGER, MARENA LAD and KALANI BOY were all late scratchings from this event by order of the Stewards at 2:45pm as there was no suitable riders available. No alteration to betting was required as the 3 fielding bookmakers were notified by Stewards of the late scratchings prior to the commencement of betting on this event. When a start was effected both FLASH ARTHUR (A. Spradau) and REGAL KELLINA (Apprentice S. Kavanagh) appeared to stay in the barriers and took no part in the event. At a subsequent enquiry following the event, Stewards took statements from ALL the riders that rode in the race, as well as the Starter (Mr. Clancy Middleton) and Barrier Attendant (Mr. Lenny Oates). After considering all the evidence submitted, viewing of the available patrol film footage and on their own observations, it was established that whilst REGAL KELLINA (Apprentice S. Kavanagh) (who had drawn the outside barrier in gate number 9), was being placed in its stall by an attendant (with the lead rope still cliped and attached to the horses bridle) Jockey A. Spradau the rider of FLASH ARTHUR (who had drawn inside of REGAL KELLINA) was appealing to the barrier staff that there was still an attendant on the ground and in with horse to his outside and that he was still as yet not properly mounted on his horse. The gates were however released and the field dispatched despite his appeal as the Starter was both unaware of the location of his attendant and did not hear Jockey Spradau's call. Stewards therefore declared both FLASH ARTHUR and REGAL KELLINA non runners as they were of the opinion that both horses were denied a fair start as per the terms of AR134A. Subsequently, both horses were declared late scratchings and prior to the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies wagered on the withdrawn horses to be refunded together with betting deductions of 26 cents the win and 24 cents the place on all winning bets in accordance with the Racing Act 2002. Stewards also inquired into an incident near the 250 metre mark at the top of the straight as to the reasons why ANNIE LUCK (W. Cullen) who was travelling on the fence and at the rear of the field, and when attempting a run on the inside of MIDNIGHT MUSIC (Ms R. Seymour) struck the running rail and had to be checked losing ground. The angle of the video footage was such that it did not afford a clear view of the incident and Jockey W. Cullen who had ridden the gelding MIDNIGHT MUSIC himself previously gave evidence favourable on behalf of Jockey Ms R. Seymour. After hearing all the evidence submitted, Jockey Ms R. Seymour was issued with a severe reprimand (AR137(a) – careless riding) for permitting her mount to shift ground when not clear of other runners. On returning to scale Jockey J. Felix the rider of PRINCESS NOVA, reported the horse did not handle the turn into the home straight and subsequently shifted outwards several horses despite his efforts to keep the mare on a straight course.
Race 5: Stegasaurus Class 5 Handicap - Distance – 0900 Metres (7 Starters)
1st - ROISAWAY 2nd - JAKQUIG 3rd - LUCOJO 4th - FOREST CLASSIC
The explanation by the connections for the late declaration of J. Long as the rider for WINTER SAFARI was under the circumstances accepted by the stewards. CASING (Ms R. Seymour) jumped outwards as the start was effected and made contact with ROISAWAY (J. Felix). COUNTY FAIR (A. Spradau), who had an attendant on its tail in the barriers, was very awkward in its gait on leaving the starting gates and then was slow into stride losing considerable ground. WINTER SAFARI (J. Long) jumped inwards onto LUCOJO (Apprentice S. Kavanagh) who at the same time jumped slightly outwards. Jockey J. Long reported following the event that his right shoulder struck the barriers during the incident.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the meeting (JD Comerford; KR Elliott & RC Murphy).
TOTAL STARTERS: 36
