RACE 1 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 900 METRES 7 STARTERS
SAVAGE MINX and TIEN CHAN were unsettled when the start was effected. SAM’S MATE and SHIVA’S TRIDENT brushed just after the start. SHIVA’S TRIDENT was inclined to lay inward in the early stages of the race.
RACE 2 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
EASILY EXCITED shifted out and brushed RED DECANTER near 450 metre mark. NATIVE WILKES snapped the off fore sesamoid bone near 300 metre mark and failed to finish. At the time of this incident, WIDGEE CROSSING, which was following, had to ease to avoid NATIVE WILKES. After being attended by Vet on course, NATIVE WILKES was removed from the track and euthanised.
RACE 3 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1) 1000 METRES 10 STARTERS
When the gates opened: VELVET SHADOW jumped outward and lost ground. BUB’S AMBITION was slow into stride and lost ground. FLAME ‘N’ FORTUNE, CHELLE’S PRIDE and REGAL PLEASURE came together when the start was effected.
RACE 4 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (2) 1000 METRES 8 STARTERS
When an attempt was made to place JUST VOLANTE in the starting stalls, the filly reared and dislodged Jockey d Sewell, then proceeded to gallop onto the golf links Twenty minutes later the filly was caught but passed unfit to race and scratched by stewards at 3:08 p.m. REAL ILLUSION refused to enter the starting stalls and was also scratched by Stewards at 3:19 p.m. C Whiteley was permitted to ride 1kg overweight on FAUN as no other suitable rider was available. Jockey G White lodged a Protest against IMPERIAL BEST being declared the winner for alleged interference inside 200 metre mark to his mount C’MON LARI which was placed second. Determination made on evidence, Stewards observation and film, was to dismiss the Protest. Prior to correct weight, Stewards directed all monies invested on JUST VOLANTE and REAL ILLUSION be refunded and deductions above the lone of 24c & 23c, deduction between the line 12c & 12c.
RACE 5 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS
When the gates opened, GEM OF A DANCER jumped outward and contacted STARRY YEATS which in turn contacted WHISKEY HEART. Near the 900 metre mark, GEM OF A DANCER was obliged to ease to avoid the heels of STARRY YEATS (C Lennon). After due process of an Inquiry, Jockey C Lennon was severely reprimanded and given the benefit of the doubt for his part in the incident, as WHISKEY HEART may have had some bearing on the incident.
RACE 6 OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS
Jockey R Gallacher was reprimanded for allowing his mount BRONZE MINSTREL to shift inward resulting in ZOOM CRACH OPERA having to ease to avoid BRONZE MINSTREL heels. NASSILE, which was following also had to ease to avoid the heels of ZOOM CRASH OPERA. No charge was laid against Jockey R Gallacher as Jockey G Watson , the rider of ZOOM CRASH OPERA was of the opinion, that when BRONZE MINSTREL was struck with the ship, he unexpectedly shifted inward.
RACE 7 OPEN HANDICAP (CUP) 1900 METRES 8 STARTERS
When the gates opened, PARTY KING (NZ) jumped inward and came into contact with BOTANY BAY GIFT. No other incidents in running.
All winners sent to be swabbed.
GENERAL: A pre race swab was taken from four starters on a random basis.
