Race 1: JE Tipper/IBS Engineering & CBC Aust Class 2 Handicap – 900 metres:
1st – VAULTING QUEEN 2nd – MONASHEE SUCCESS 3rd – SIMPLY MAGIC 4th - HUSSELING
SIMPLY MAGIC (G. Kliese) was slow to begin.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of HUSSELING, jockey I. Toward stated that the saddle had slipped back slightly in the early stages of the race and that HUSSELING had to be placed under pressure from leaving the 600 metres responding only fairly to his riding. Trainer B. Hunter stated that this was HUSSELING’S second run back form a spell and that the gelding would take benefit from this performance. A post-race veterinary examination of HUSSELING did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: Mackay’s Banana Marketing QTIS Maden Plate – 1100 metres:
1st – SPOT THE DRAGON 2nd – BURDEKIN STAR 3rd – HIDDEN MANNER 4th – JUSTFORLIFE
At the start SPOT THE DRAGON (K. Stone) jumped outwards and made contact with SMOKE ‘N’ RAIN (I. Toward).
MILITANT (S. Pawsey) was slow into stride.
Near the 800 metres SPOT THE DRAGON (K. Stone) had a tendency to hang out.
SMOKE ‘N’ RAIN (I. Toward) shifted out under pressure over the final 200 metres.
Jockey S. Kaya reported that his mount STRICTLY MAGIC raced greenly throughout.
Race 3: Visy Boxes And More/Holman Fresh/Deluca Banana Class B Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – KANDEE QUEEN 2nd – GENERAL BEEJAY 3rd – STAUNCH NORTH 4th – PARMIGIANA
GENERAL BAXTER AND SAQUARRA were scratched by order of the Stewards at 12.45pm as no riders were available. Shortly after the start VITAL GEE (M. Atkinson) shifted out and made contact with CALL A CAB (I. Toward).
STAUNCH NORTH (A. Merritt) and PARMIGIANA (S. Pawsey) were both slow to begin.
CAPTAIN SIR (App B. Swaffer) and LITTLE MISS EVA (K. Stone) both raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the performance of KING AMONG KINGS, jockey S. Kaya stated that near the 1000 metres he attempted to ease the gelding to take up a trailing position however when doing so KING AMONG KINGS dropped the bit and then failed to run on. Stewards noted jockey Kaya’s comments.
A post-race veterinary examination of CALL A CAB revealed the mare to be suffering from mild heat stress.
Race 4: Lindsay Australia Benchmark 70 Handicap – 1200 metres:
1st – HELIOPOLIS 2nd – MANHATTAN SKYLINE 3rd – IN A JAM 4th – GALLANT HAWK
CHEQUIN (R. Ryan) knuckled on jumping away.
HELIOPOLIS (A. Merritt) was slow into stride.
VANTABULOUS (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.
Over the concluding stages jockey G. Kliese the rider of GALLANT HAWK was unable to fully test his mount when taken in by HELIOPOLIS (A. Merritt) who had a tendency to shift in under pressure. Jockey Merritt was reminded of his obligations that when shifting ground he must stop and straighten his mount in future.
Race 5: Star Fruit Banana Plus/Costa Exchange Class 3 Handicap – 1500 metres
1st – TOWSER 2nd – GRIMHILD’S REVENGE 3rd – STRUCKBYLIGHTNING 4th – GO AMIGO
MASTER MORGAN (S. Kaya) was slow into stride.
NORTHERN THEATRE (A. Merritt) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Moraitis Banana Cup Open Handicap – 1800 metres
1st – TRIPITZ 2nd – PACIFIC HIGHWAY 3rd – OUR PRIVATE JET 4th – SARBI
OUR PRIVATE JET (K. Rockett) who was fractious in the barriers reared as the start was effected.
KEEN ON YOU (App B. Swaffer) over raced in the middle stages.
