WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - DEAD RAIL - 9M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: DRAKES PRIDE H'CAP - 814M.
WORD GAMES and WHOOSHKA came together on jumping away.
WORD GAMES was inclined to hang out in the early stages, and making the home turn inconvenienced CASSIE'S PRINCESS when continuing to lay out.
RACE 2: RQBA H'CAP - 814M.
As J. Stanley was indisposed, S. Morris was substituted as the rider of SAHARA CHARM. M. Aspinall was also indisposed replaced by G. Duffy.
Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards and connections of BANDAGES, which was retired from the race, to ascertain whether the horse had been denied the opportunity of a fair start. After viewing the official film, stewards were satisfied that there was no malfunction with the barriers and BANDAGES was declared a runner. N.Jolly, rider of BANDAGES, explained that he endeavoured to retire BANDAGES from the race due to the injury he sustained when his right knee struck the barriers on jumping.
POETIC DECOY, which proved difficult to load and was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin.
SWIFT REPLY jumped awkwardly.
CENTRAL STRIDE was slow to begin.
BARRENJOEY DREAM shifted in at the start and made contact with ANTARES.
After jumping away awkwardly, BANDAGES was severely hampered by SAHARA CHARM, which also jumped awkwardly and shifted out.
Approaching the 400m., FLAMING PRINCE, which was racing greenly, shifted in abruptly, causing TENDERNESS to be checked.
Over the concluding stages, FLAMING PRINCE shifted in under pressure and inconvenienced BARRENJOEY DREAM.
RACE 3: QLBA H'CAP - 1700M.
R. Goltz replaced the indisposed M. Aspinall on SONIC YOUTH.
G. Doughty replaced the indisposed N. Jolly on PRAYDO.
VERBITO and PRAYDO came together on jumping away.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GRIEGER GIRL, J. Byrne stated that he had a good run throughout the event but when placed under pressure passing the 600m., the filly refused to stretch out in the normal manner and in his opinion GREIGER GIRL was suffering some soreness. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that GREIGER GIRL was sore in the off fore tendon.
RACE 4: JUDY NASH H'CAP - 1350M.
ARCH'S CHARGER was slow to begin.
RACE 5: ALAN THURLOW H'CAP - 1523M.
T. Muto replaced the indisposed J. Stanley on PAISLEY PARK.
After leaving the 1200m., THE NATURAL shifted out and made contact with JE NE SAIS QUOI. In an effort to maintain his position, M. Cahill, rider of JE NE SAIS QUOI, then shifted back in, taking THE NATURAL in on to SOVEREIGN GEM, which had to be checked. Whilst stewards acknowledged that both JE NE SAIS QUOI and THE NATURAL had played a part in this incident by racing ungenerously, M. Cahill was nevertheless severely reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he must allow sufficient room for runners to race to his inside.
RACE 6: FRED FERN BOWLS CENTRE H'CAP - 1100M.
MANNDO jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering GRAEME'S CHOICE and EXCITING MACEDONIA.
LITTLE SHOES shifted in at the start, inconveniencing ZOOMSTER and SHALARKO.
Passing the 800m., MANNDO commenced to race fiercely when being restrained.
BATON was held up for a run in the early stages of the straight.
RACE 7: MICHAEL BROWN H'CAP - 1100M.
A. Merritt replaced the indisposed J. Stanley on SUN PRINCESS.
CELENTO jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of SPIRIT OF VENUS.
Approaching the 600m., when WHAT'S THE BEEF eased to take a position closer to the inside running rail, APPAREL, which was racing to that runner's inside, had to be steadied.
Near the 400m., CELENTO had to be restrained off the heels of SPIRIT OF VENUS.
APPAREL was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 8: NEV WOOD BRADLEY H'CAP - 1100M.
An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for M. Cahill being notified as the rider of KING BAY and LUK KAI LUK. M. Paget was substituted as the rider of KING BAY.
SHOMATAR and LOOKS A LOVER jumped away awkwardly.
BOLD PIERRE shifted in and brushed the running rail on 2 occasions approaching the 800m..
Trainer K. Kearney was advised that a warning was being placed on DANCE IN THE DARK in relation to its waywardness by shifting out under pressure in the straight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
