WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 2M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: IPSWICH HERITAGE CITY H'CAP - 1350M.
BETTER RED was held up for clear running for the length of the straight.
RACE 2: IPSWICH IT'S A GREAT PLACE H'CAP - 1000M.
BOWEN SPECIAL JUST FAITH, ASMADAS and GULLCHATCHER were all tightened for room at the start between TEKE SERIES and WILLY THE KID, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, BOWEN SPECIAL became unbalanced.
RACE 3: IPSWICH TOURISM H'CAP - 1000M.
DOKIC was a late scratching at 10.40 .m. on veterinary advice.
MISS ZAVARGO jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
SINCE CREATION reared at the start.
Approaching the 900m., HATTA'S DANCER commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of TILLSZOFF for some distance.
Nearing the 800m., SEATTLE QUEEN was tightened for room when LOS KATROS shifted in momentarily.
J. Byrne, rider of CYGRET, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 500m. he allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in ANNAZAR and TILLSZOFF having to be checked. J. Byrne was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 March, and to expire at midnight, 27 March 2001.
RACE 4: IPSWICH EVENTS CORPORATION H'CAP - 1200M.
STRANGE CONFLICT jumped awkwardly and commenced to overrace in the early and middle stages.
RACE 5: GLOBAL ARTS LINK H'CAP - 1000M.
N. Jolly, rider of SEATTLE SOUND, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he directed his mount in near the 600m. and in doing so made heavy contact with CIRCLE OF WHITE. As a result of this incident, CIRCLE OF WHITE shifted in, resulting in EL GRECO striking the heels of CIRCLE OF WHITE and blundering. N. Jolly was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 March, and to expire at midnight on 28 March 2001.
CIRCLE OF WHITE shifted out rounding the home turn and had to be steadied off the heels of FAITH IN HER.
N. Jolly, rider of SEATTLE BOUND, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of a half a kilogram overweight.
RACE 6: TRAVELAND IPSWICH H'CAP - 1500M.
As no suitable apprentice was available, P. Wolfgram was substituted for the indisposed S. Morris as the rider of RIVER STAGE.
DARE ATTEMPT jumped awkwardly.
Passing the 1400m., COURT COBAIN had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PADDY'S GIFT, which shifted in. J. Stanley, rider of PADDY'S GIFT, was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
D. Evans was reprimanded for failing to ride SWAPSEA right to the winning post.
Stewards again questioned trainer G. Newham regarding the riding tactics adopted on PADDY'S GIFT today when it led as compared to the gelding's last start at the Gold Coast on Saturday, 3 March when ridden back. He said that it wasn't his intention to have PADDY'S GIFT ridden forward today and rider Justin Stanley advised him after the race that he elected to go forward rather than being caught 4 to 5 horses wide getting to the first turn. Stewards accepted trainer G. Newham's explanation.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that PADDY'S GIFT had sustained an abrasion to the off hind hock during the race.
RACE 7: IPSWICH CITY SQUARE H'CAP - 2150M.
As M. Bennett was indisposed, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of ZINA ZULU.
SALANZA was slow to begin.
SALANZA was inclined to lay out making the first turn and raced wide throughout the early and middle stages.
Near the 800m., SEMI DISCO had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring SALANZA.
A short distance later, SEALINER had to be steadied and shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of the tiring SALANZA.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
