WEATHER – FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL – OUT 4M ALL TRACK
GOOD (1.03 PM)
RACE 1: Q.B.B.S. H'CAP – 1200M
MAIZIERE and CAPTAIN CENTREFOLD were a little slow to jump.
MISS ENTREVEAUX jumped outwards at the start.
GOLD BOLERO had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.
Near the finishing line MAIZIERE shifted out causing GOLD BOLERO to be hampered. M Cahill, the rider of MAIZIERE, was advised to exercise more care in future.
RACE 2: YALUMBA WINES H'CAP – 1000M
A Gillett, who was indisposed, was replaced on the following horses:
Race 2 CELENTO M Smith-Lester
Race 5 AMEEN FELLA M Smith-Lester
A warning was issued to the connections of WEST WARD which proved difficult to load.
WEST WARD knuckled over on jumping away and lost valuable ground at the start.
MORINGA BLUE also knuckled over at the start.
MRS. BUTTERWORTH got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance rounding the first turn.
LILY'S BABY was held up rounding the home turn and until after passing the 200m.
When attempting to improve rounding the home turn, WEST WARD overreacted and shifted out causing MRS. BUTTERWORTH to be checked and taking CELENTO wider on the track. S Galloway, the rider of WEST WARD, reported that the bit had pulled through the horse's mouth in this incident.
RACE 3: HOMESTYLE BAKERIES H'CAP – 1500M
Stewards approved a late change of rider for MALLEE FIRE from D Wheeler to D Crossland when D Wheeler was indisposed.
SUNGIFT had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages of the race.
NORTHERN SURF was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon following the event and found to be lame in the off-side foreleg.
As L. Deguara weighed in under her allotted weight, Stewards allowed her to weigh with the bridle in accordance with the provisions of AR143.
RACE 4: STAR FM 106.9 H'CAP – 1666M
BLESSED TYCOON was a little slow to jump.
G O'Sullivan, the rider of EL CARTERO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1400m causing interference to BLESSED TYCOON, SWELL BOY and CHARGOLD. G O'Sullivan was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on 29 March and expire at midnight on 11 April 2001.
RACE 5: SCHWEPPES H'CAP – 1666M
INDIGIT appeared to take charge of its rider in its preliminary and a subsequent veterinary examination revealed that the horse was suitable to race.
INDIGIT, which raced fiercely in the early stages, commenced to tire near the 700m and finished a considerable distance from the bulk of the field. A veterinary examination of INDIGIT following the event revealed that the horse had pulled up distressed and its recovery was abnormal. Trainer A Cowell was informed that INDIGIT would be required to trial officially to the satisfaction of stewards and that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the mare is permitted to race.
Near the 200m KING OF LAUGHS shifted out, resulting in CATCH STEVE which was trailing being momentarily hampered. A short distance later KING OF LAUGHS shifted in and CATCH STEVE, which was attempting to take a run inside that horse, again had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid its heels.
RACE 6: XXXX H'CAP – 1200M
When being restrained after travelling approximately 100m, ENYIA CARRATE got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.
Near the finishing line COURT MINSTREL shifted in and brushed IRISH SON.
RACE 7: QUEENSLAND TIMES H'CAP – 1200M
Trainer J Bannon was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for VIRGO'S HORIZON by the prescribed time.
KAORU QUEEN jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 8: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL H'CAP – 1350M
STRANGE CONFLICT jumped into the side of the gate at the start.
Approaching the finishing line KEY TO DANCING shifted in and tightened QUEENSBURY ROAD.
When questioned concerning STRANGE CONFLICT's performance, J Byrne explained that after jumping awkwardly the horse settled back further than he anticipated and that after passing the 800m the horse had to be eased to avoid the heels of HELEN'S HONEY. J Byrne added that whilst STRANGE CONFLICT ran home reasonably well, he was of the opinion that it may be looking for further ground.
