IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.24.10.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett(Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr D. Hensler, Mr R. Sanders, Mr W. Flynn.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 9M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: ANDALE DOWNEY/FINLAYS H'CAP - 1350M.

JUST KISTA was a late scratching at 11.55 a.m.. due to transport difficulties.

SAHARA AMBER jumped outwards at the start, making contact with MANABOZHO.

Near the 1000m., ITANIUM, which was pulling hard, had to be steadied off the heels of MERV'S WISH. A veterinary examination of ITANIUM following the race revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the off hind leg.

PINCER was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

RACE 2: CALVERT BUTCHERY/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1540M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Katsidis, rider of the third placegetter, FLASHVILLE, against MCGILL being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the home turn. After hearing evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the film, the protest was upheld and Judge's placings amended to read: No. 1 - RED COUNTESS - 1st; No. 2 - FLASHVILLE - 2nd; No. 7. MCGILL - 3rd. In upholding the protest, stewards were of the view that the interference suffered by FLASHVILLE at the 400m. exceeded the margin between the relevant horses at the finish.

At a subsequent inquiry, N. Evans, rider of MCGILL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 400m, taking the rightful running of FLASHVILLE, resulting in that horse having to be checked. N. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 October, and to expire at midnight, 7 November 2001. When FLASHVILLE was checked in this incident on the home turn, THORNALLEY, which was racing to that horse's outside, was forced wider.

FLASHVILLE was a little slow to begin.

Approaching the 1000m., when the pace eased, RED COUNTESS shifted away from the rails and made contact with DE KWILA.

Nearing the finishing line, DE KWILA was momentarily tightened for room between MCGILL and RED COUNTESS, which shifted out.

P Hammersley, rider of RED COUNTESS, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right to the finish line.

RACE 3: IPSWICH ADVERTISER/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1700M.

Trainer S. Dwyer was fined $25 for presenting BLUE PAREE without its tail chain.

OUR CHEVAL jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

SANDY SEA was a little slow to begin.

Rounding the first turn, LADY TRICE was inclined to race ungenerously and became unbalanced, losing ground.

RACE 4: DON MCMILLAN SOLICITORS/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1100M.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Rodd, rider of the 4th placegetter, BETTER DAYS, against DEFINITE DECISION being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the final 50m.. In upholding the objection, stewards were satisfied that DEFINITE DECISION had shifted ground several horses, preventing M. Rodd from riding his mount out over the final 50m., resulting in BETTER DAYS losing in excess of half a length. In this incident where DEFINITE DECISION shifted ground, SEA LILY and PRINCESS PEARL, which was racing to the outside of BETTER DAYS, were also inconvenienced near the finish line. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that M. Dracos, rider of DEFINITE DECISION, was changing his whip into his right hand and the horse shifted ground abruptly and made contact with BETTER DAYS. When this occurred, M. Dracos lost his rein when attempting to straighten the horse. After taking into account the circumstances, M. Dracos was advised that in similar circumstances, he should exercise more care and take greater measures to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.

DEFINITE DECISION and GAVOLT made contact at the start and again after travelling a short distance.

Near the 500m., DEFINITE DECISION attempted to shift away from the rails and in doing so made contact with BETTER DAYS. When moving back to the rails, PRINCESS PEARL was hampered and then a short distance later, DEFINITE DECISION had to be checked off the heels of GAVOLT, hampering PRINCESS PEARL.

FRYING PAN sustained a laceration to the near-side hind leg as a result of being galloped on in running.

RACE 5: DON MCMILLAN SOLICITORS/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1100M..

JUST A DAZZLE jumped inwards at the start and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CLADDAGH.

CRIMSON CARNATION began awkwardly.

ULTRA SWING was inclined to overrace after making the first turn.

CRIMSON CARNATION and GANGREL were both held up in the early stages of the straight.

K. Yoshida, rider of WIRRADILLA, accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m..

After establishing a run between the tiring MIT BLUMEN and ULTRA SWING, CRIMSON CARNATION shifted out and brushed ULTRA SWING inside the 200m., resulting in ULTRA SWING becoming unbalanced.

After attempting to take a run between PANAGIA and JUST A DAZZLE near the 100m., GANGREL had to be eased as a result of JUST A DAZZLE shifting in.

RACE 6: AON RISK SERVICES/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1100M.

SHATTERSTAR knuckled over and lost ground at the start.

SASKADAN jumped inwards at the start, causing GO MUSIC GO to be checked.

Making the home turn, SUPREME WILL was inclined to lay out and made contact with STAR OF TELESTO.

For some distance approaching the turn, CRAZY COTTON had difficulty obtaining clear running.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, BON VIVEUR.

RACE 7: G.J. WALSH & CO/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1200M.

M. Rodd replaced the indisposed M. Bennett as the rider of LILY'S BABY.

CAMALEIS shifted in and made contact with OUR LAA DEE DA at the start.

JENIBRIA was tightened for room on jumping away between IMPOSING SAL and RIVERA TREASURE, which shifted ground.

SILVER EXPRESS was caught wide in the early stages and raced wide for the majority of the race.

D. Griffin, rider of MISS BRUNHILDE, was cautioned for shifting ground on the home turn when not sufficiently clear of CAMALEIS, resulting in that horse having to be steadied to avoid heels.

IMPOSING SAL had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the latter stages of the race.

Trainer J. Nielsen, when questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of OUR LAA DEE DA, was at a loss to explain the disappointing run as the horse had pleased in its preparation for today's race. He was requested to notify stewards of anything that may come to his notice which may have had an effect on the disappointing run. A veterinary examination of OUR LAA DEE DA following the event failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the filly.

RACE 8: SUNCORP METWAY/BROTHERS IPSWICH H'CAP - 1200M.

C. Whiteley, rider of TELKALA, was fined $50 by being negligent in weighing without a girth.

ALL WINNERS, BON VIVEUR AND OUR LAA DEE DA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
