IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 12.01.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C Clifford (Chairman), Mr C McLune, Mr R Sanders, Mr W Geggie, Mr P Gillard, Mr C Ferguson (Cadet)

WEATHER – FINE & HOT TRACK – GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

GENERAL: As G Palmer was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 2 KING'S CONCERT R Goltz
Race 3 AUNTIE DAWN A Erhart
Race 6 DREAMS ARE US C Whiteley
Race 7 FOUNTAINE BAY C Whiteley
Race 8 TAKE STRIKE R Morris

RACE 1: QBBS FEBRUARY H'CAP – 1000M

WEST ANGEL was slow to begin.

DANTIBES' TREASURE and SOCIETY KING made contact on jumping away.

Approaching the 900m SOCIETY KING shifted out and made contact with PHAROS DANCER. RUBIES AND PEARLS, which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.

Approaching the 100m LOS GATOS was disappointed for clear running between ALL TUNE and DANTIBES' TREASURE.

RACE 2: QBBS CLASSIC SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1500M

MARENA LAD jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with the hind quarters of LEAD THE ACE. MARENA LAD then shifted back in, making contact with SPEEDITO, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

STELLAR SPECTRA shifted in at the start, making contact with MR. CONNOLLY and KING'S CONCERT.

KING'S CONCERT was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages and when being restrained commenced to overrace.

After passing the 400m KAAPSICUM was held up for clear running behind BRAVE RETURN.

D Tanti, the rider of MR. CONNOLLY, reported that his left ankle made heavy contact with the barriers on jumping away. D Tanti was subsequently examined by the Club's medical officer and stood down from his remaining engagement.

RACE 3: QBBS GOLD MEDAL SERIES H'CAP - 1350M

As P Brown was indisposed, R Morris was substituted as the rider of ADVANCE GUARD.

QUITE SPECIAL jumped away awkwardly and shifted in and made contact with FORECASTLE.

After passing the 1100m GOD'S CHARIOT commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of THE LADY TABATHA.

On entering the straight CUITE MAN was held up for clear running behind the tiring QUITE SPECIAL.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that TEETH was showing signs of respiratory distress following the event.

RACE 4: QBBS BONUSES H'CAP – 2150M

Due to A Parramore having commitments in Toowoomba, M Carson was substituted as the rider of SHECKY'S PRIDE.

HI DAD and SHEAR PIN were slow to begin.

CROFTSIDE PARK jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason why BUNDEENA BOY was presented with blinkers. Trainer P Duff will be interviewed at a later date.

RACE 5: QBBS MAKES MORE SENSE H'CAP – 1350M

VALERIAN TRIOMPHE was slow to begin.

On jumping away INITIAL CHIEF was hampered between MARZEE STAR and CLEAN FORGOT which shifted in.

CANTERBURY DOWNS jumped away awkwardly.

INITIAL CHIEF was forced to race wide from the 800m to the home turn.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that MUSICAL SPIN was galloped on on the off hind leg.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of VALERIAN TRIOMPHE, apprentice L Morrison stated that the gelding usually leads, however after being slow to jump had failed to muster speed and did not respond to her riding for the majority of the event and in her opinion raced disappointingly. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that on examination he could find no abnormality with VALERIAN TRIOMPHE and the gelding was sent to be swabbed.


RACE 6: QBBS BETTER VALUE H'CAP – 1666M

Trainer P Moody was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for NEDEYEV by the prescribed time.

Stewards accepted the explanation for trainer T Moloney's late notification of rider for RIVER BOYNE.

As D Tanti was indisposed, L Hill was substituted as the rider of WINGS OF SILVER.

NEDEYEV jumped away awkwardly and shortly afterwards was hampered between BRAVE WORDS and MYMARDIE which shifted in.

FLASH FRED was slow to begin.

NEDEYEV jumped the crossing at the 1500m.

Approaching the 400m DANLU had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring RIVER BOYNE and in doing so shifted in tightening MYMARDIE.

At the 300m MYMARDIE had to be steadied off the heels of the tiring RIVER BOYNE.

RACE 7: QBBS GOLD MEDAL BONUSES H'CAP – 1100M

GRIZZLY SUPREME reared as the gates opened and got its head up in the air and raced ungenerously for some distance. In this incident K Purdy was struck on the head.

FLYING AMY jumped away awkwardly.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that SERENDIPITY SNIP was suffering muscle spasms following the event.

A swab sample was taken from 4th placegetter MISS ZANARDI.

RACE 8: QBBS BONUS SCHEME H'CAP – 1200M

On jumping away TAKE STRIKE shifted out and made contact with ERINTEL.

BIRKDALE LAD was obliged to race wide throughout.

ALL WINNERS, VALERIAN TRIOMPHE AND MISS ZANARDI WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
