WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 2M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1:SCHWEPPES LEMONADE H'CAP - 1100M.
HACHI and BRAVE GENTLEMAN were slow to begin.
KOSA jumped awkwardly.
Apprentice M. Rodd reported that KOSA was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
RACE 2: SCHWEPPES DRY GINGER ALE H'CAP - 1000M.
FINAL HIGHWAY, DASHIN, SKY FLAME and JAKE'S PICK were slow to begin.
JAKE'S PICK was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
DASHIN and FINAL HIGHWAY both finished a considerable distance from the remainder of the field. Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that FINAL HIGHWAY was shin sore in both forelegs, and that no abnormality could be detected with DASHIN. Trainer B. McLachlan's representative was advised that DASHIN would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. He also undertook to advise stewards of anything that may come to light in the days following the race that may have had some bearing on the colt's disappointing performance.
RACE 3: SCHWEPPES DIET COLA H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer M. Nolan was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for TWILIGHT BLUE. M. Nolan was advised that the nomination of WILIGHT BLUE would be refused until he was able to produce the Document of Description.
Approaching the home turn, AVASEUS had a tendency to lay out.
A veterinary examination of HARVEY ROAD following the event revealed swelling over the off hind lateral sesamoid. A swab sample was taken from second placegetter, HARVEY ROAD.
RACE 4: SCHWEPPES COLA SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.
SURRENDERS and SOME RED made contact on jumping away.
KALBO ROAD jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 700m., WELSH TART had to be steadied off the heels of KALBO ROAD.
RULANCER was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Passing the 800m., NERRENA made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
GENERAL QUARTERS was obliged to race wide approaching the home turn.
After passing the 200m., the tiring CAPANNI shifted in and made contact with SURRENDERS.
RACE 5: SCHWEPPES SUNKIST H'CAP - 1350M.
No incidents.
RACE 6: SCHWEPPES SARSAPARILLA H'CAP - 1000M.
As M. Lister was indisposed, G. Schofield was substituted as the rider of RETSIL.
Due to an office error, G. Colless was advertised as the rider of SAHARA BRAVE when in fact that horse was to be ridden by R. Hurley.
Approaching the 800m., SCOTTISH CHARGER dipped of its own accord.
Nearing the 400m., DIDIER, which was inclined to hang out despite the efforts of its rider, had to be steadied off the heels of SEASIDE SUCCESS.
Passing the 200m., SCOTTISH CHARGER shifted in of its own accord and had to be steadied off the heels of JUST COUNTY and became unbalanced.
RACE 7: SCHWEPPES SOLO H'CAP - 1350M..
PEDRO'S SUPREME was slow to begin.
LITTLE COLLINS began awkwardly.
NO MAN'S LAND and RUN A MUK made contact on jumping away.
After passing the 800m. when the pace slackened, MOYNIHAN, NO MAN'S LAND and LITTLE COLLINS all had to be steadied. In this incident, WINNING FRIENDS, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of LITTLE COLLINS and lost ground.
TWIN ISLAND and IMPOSITION were obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 8: SCHWEPPES ALE H'CAP - 1666M.
RANGERS, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
PAT'S ORPHAN jumped awkwardly.
After passing the 1400m., LOOP THE LOUP, when being steadied off the heels of GOLD HEART, shifted in and made contact with the running rail on 2 occasions.
A veterinary examination of MR. ALERT, which finished a distant last, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon who reported no abnormalities
ALL WINNERS, HARVEY ROAD AND RANGERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
