When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of IN THE JUNGLE, apprentice R. Hurley stated that the horse jumped well and settled in a good position. He indicated the only explanation he could offer for the poor performance was that the gelding overraced considerably in the middle stages and threw its head in the air on a number of occasions. This, in his view, led to he gelding failing to respond when placed under pressure. Trainer B. Bowditch concurred with apprentice Hurley that IN THE JUNGLE had hindered its chances by racing ungenerously during the event. A swab sample was taken from IN THE JUNGLE following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.
