A. Gillette was questioned concerning his riding of KING'S YACHT, particularly in the early and middle stages of the race. A. He stated that when restrained near the 1200m., KING'S YACHT got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously, and when attempting to settle the horse, it dropped the bit and lost ground, resulting in KING'S YACHT racing approximately 3 lengths off the second-last horse. A. Gillette further explained that he commenced a forward move on his mount prior to the 600m. and it ran home well. Part-owner and foreman, Mr S. Clark, confirmed the instructions and was satisfied with A. Gillette's tactics, bearing in mind that the horse was trapped wide after travelling a short distance. The explanation was noted.
