WEATHER – OVERCAST/SHOWERS TRACK – GOOD/DEAD AFTER R.4/SLOW AFTER RACE 6 RAIL – 6.5 ALL TRACK
RACE 1: WET WALL PLASTERING PTY LTD H’CAP – 2150M.
SHEAR PIN was slow to begin.
Near the 700m., MIGHTY MERAH shifted out off the heels of the tiring MURIELLA, and in doing so made contact with BRANDY SUCCESS
Approaching the 500m., DANCER’S EDGE had to be steadied off the heels of SHEAR PIN, which was inclined to shift in.
RACE 2: COMMERCIAL HOTEL REDBANK H’CAP – 1200M.
As L. Morrison was indisposed, A. Parramore was substituted as the rider of ERIN’S DELIGHT, and G. Colless as the rider of SWEET LILY (Race 5).
UNDARA was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn, SANDY JACK shifted in and made contact with CRAIGLEA FORCE, resulting in SANDY JACK becoming unbalanced.
RACE 3: AUSSIE STONES QTIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP – 1100M.
SAN DEL AQUILA was slow to begin.
After passing the 600m., ACTIVE COMBAT had to be steadied off the heels of GELZINNIS and shifted in, inconveniencing HILL BILLY HEAVEN.
Approaching the finish line, ACTIVE COMBAT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SAN DEL AQUILA, which shifted in.
RACE 4: TURNER TRANSPORT AND CRANE HIRE H’CAP – 1005M.
On jumping away, S. Seamer (ZOOBINI) made heavy contact with the barrier gates with his left leg. Following the event, S. Seamer was examined by the club’s doctor and stood down from his remaining engagement on MIGHTY TRIST in race 5. N. Day was substituted as the rider of that mare.
COMIQUE DREAM also jumped awkwardly, making heavy contact with the inside stall partition. As a consequence, N. Jolly suffered an injury to his right knee. N. Jolly stated that the blow he suffered to the knee placed him in extreme discomfort in the initial stages of the race, and he was not able to ride the horse prominently as instructed.
After passing the 700m., RUN ON BLUE, which was racing greenly, shifted in, resulting in NEVER DUSTY having to be checked, and in doing so shifted out, hampering COMIQUE DREAM.
Following the event, the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that NEVER DUSTY had sustained a small laceration to the off hind pastern.
The track rating was downgraded to dead after this event.
RACE 5: MCPERSON MECHANICAL REPAIRS H’CAP – 1005M.
B. Guy, trainer of ASIAN TYCOON, was fined $50 for failing to declare M. Rodd as the rider of that filly by the prescribed time.
TYCOON PENNY was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of PARIS TYCOON, J. Powell stated that after being slow to begin, he urged the mare along to take up a forward position, however PARIS TYCOON failed to respond and settled back in the field. He further added that PARIS TYCOON was inclined to hang out throughout the race. Trainer G. Heinrich was unable to offer any excuses for the mare’s disappointing performance, however she added that the horse was racing for the first time today in a cross-over noseband. G. Heinrich undertook to report back to stewards any abnormality which may become apparent with PARIS TYCOON in the days following the event. Stewards noted the explanations. A post-race veterinary examination of PARIS TYCOON revealed bruising to the right cheek and a small laceration to the off hind fetlock.
RACE 6: STRAND HOTEL, NORTH IPSWICH H’CAP – 1510M.
MELT THE GUNS got down in the barriers and lashed out, resulting in CORSICAN, which was in the adjoining stall, being kicked on several occasions. MELT THE GUNS and CORSICAN were declared late scratchings at 3.34 p.m. on veterinary advice. CERTAIN BLITZ, which was unable to be loaded, was declared a late scratching 3.36 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on those MELT THE GUNS, CORSICAN and CERTAIN BLITZ were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions to apply: 46 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 41 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to 3.34 p.m., and 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 15 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed between 3.34 p.m. and 3.36 p.m.. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that she would be required to produce a barrier test certificate for CERTAIN BLITZ prior to its next race start.
Following this event, the track rating was downgraded to slow.
RACE 7: WEST END OLD BOYS H’CAP – 1350M.
Apprentice D. Gay was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on UNION SQUARE.
BRIDLE WARRIOR and MAIZIERE were slow to begin.
RACE 8: GEOFF KERR BIRTHDAY H’CAP – 1200M.
EAGER BRIDE, which sustained an injury en route to the track, was declared a late scratching at 3.10 p.m. on veterinary advice.
KING’S BISHOP was slow to begin.
Approaching the 100m. ADO ANNIE was inconvenienced by IN NEW YORK, which shifted in.
G. Colless, rider of the 5th placegetter, ADO ANNIE, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
