WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD

RACE 1: BAROOSA BOY H'CAP - 1350M.

VIVA LA VITA knuckled over at the start.

GARRICK was caught wide after the start and was forced wide for the majority of the race.

For some distance on straightening and until near the 100m., PRINCE LONSDALE was held up for clear running.

RACE 2: ROMAN SENATOR H'CAP - 1350M.

Near the 1000m., GLITZ 'N' GLAM and LOOK HERE TAY were inclined to race ungenerously.

At the 800m., ZIGLANG had to be eased to avoid the heels of STELLAR PRINCE and shifted out, taking ICEFLOE, LOOK HERE TAY and GLITZ 'N' GLAM wider on the track.

Leaving the 600m., KAZAKH STAN clipped the heels of the tiring ICEFLOE and blundered.

RACE 3: RANCHO MISS H'CAP - 1500M.

HOT MOSS was a late scratching at 7.35 a.m. on veterinary advice.

COSSACK GOLD was slow to begin.

SEA ARTIST and INVERSE RATIO made contact at the start.

A short distance after the start, MIKAN was crowded for room between NO STOP LOSS and TEAKER'S BLUE STAR.

Approaching the first turn, INVERSE RATIO commenced to lay in, causing SEA ARTIST and TEAKER'S BLUE STAR to race in restricted room.

Leaving the 200m., TEAKER'S BLUE STAR was inclined to lay in, causing NO STOP LOSS to be briefly cramped for room.

KINCRAIG was forced to race wide throughout the event.

RACE 4: PETERSFIELD LAD H'CAP - 1000M.

CONISTON'S WARRIOR was slow to jump.

RACE 5: QUICK RESPONSE H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer G. Loader was fined $50 for failing to present the Document of Description for SUNLADY.

GRACEWICK was held up for clear running for some distance after leaving the 200m..

When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of CARAMEL STAR, jockey M. Bennett indicated that the horse did not travel as well as expected in the early stages and failed to respond to his riding after leaving the 600m. and did not finish the race off as expected. Trainer K. Tinsley stated that the horse had pleased in its preparation leading up to the race, however was unable to offer any other excuse for the performance. A veterinary examination of CARAMEL STAR failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken.

RACE 6: RANCHO'S COUP H'CAP - 1100M.

As D. Hayse was indisposed, S. Galloway was substituted as the rider of NO MAN'S LAND.

CHIEF BRAVEHEART sustained a laceration in the mouth when it bumped the barrier gates on jumping away.

DAWN CLANCES and PARIS MAIZ brushed at the start.

Shortly after the start, NO MAN'S LAND jumped outwards, taking GENERAL'S REVENGE out on to MOBY, causing that horse to be tightened on to the hind quarters of DAWN GLANCES.

Whilst attempting to avoid the heels of the tiring ELLEMONSTA on the home turn, SUNLADY had to be checked momentarily when tightened by NO MAN'S LAND, which was taken in slightly by WAITER.

ROYAL ARCHWAY was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.

When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of ELLEMONSTA, A. Best explained that he had been instructed to lead on the horse and after obtaining the lead the horse's breathing appeared abnormal, and leaving the 500m., ELLEMONSTA commenced to compound and tire badly over the concluding stages. Trainer S. Chirnside indicated that ELLEMONSTA had suffered previously from a respiratory disorder. A veterinary examination of ELLEMONSTA revealed that the horse was distressed and that this was more likely the result of a breathing disorder. Ms Chirnside indicated that the horse's current racing campaign would be reviewed, and stewards ordered that a veterinary certificate of fitness be produced, and the horse must barrier trial satisfactorily before racing again. A swab sample was taken from ELLEMONSTA.

RACE 7: MASKED PARTY H'CAP - 1500M.

A protest lodged by S. Galloway, rider of the 4th placegetter, LACRISTI, against OPAL RAINBOW being declared 2nd, alleging interference inside the 200m.. was dismissed. Stewards were of the view that whilst OPAL RAINBOW had shifted ground under pressure, resulting in LACRISTI being inconvenienced, they were not satisfied that the ground lost in the incident materially affected the result of the race, and therefore the protest was dismissed and the Judge's placings confirmed.

BRIDLE WARRIOR was slow to begin.

A veterinary examination of EMERALD ZEEL, which was hard ridden from the 800m., revealed no abnormalities. A swab sample was taken. Trainer's representative S. Clark was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance and undertook to notify the stewards of anything that might come to his attention in the days following the event that may have had some effect on the performance.

RACE 8: CORREGIDOR H'CAP - 1350M.

A. Pattillo was notified late as the rider for HELL FOR LEATHER. Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $50.

As N. Jolly was indisposed, S. Apthorpe was substituted as the rider of HAVE A SAY.

HAVE A SAY was slow to begin.

ADMIRAL'S COMMAND blundered badly at the start.

Approching the 400m., PRINCE OF DENMARK shifted out to improve and made contact with WHAT A GUY, forcing that horse slightly wider.

On the home turn, PRINCE OF DENMARK had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WHAT A GUY, which shifted in. M. Rodd, rider of WHAT A GUY, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

On straightening, IMPERIAL HEART was disappointed for a run between IANITIS and PROTECTED SPECIES, which shifted ground under pressure.

ROYAL CONSPIRACY was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

HIGHLY DELIGHTED lost its off hind plate in running.

ALL WINNERS AND CARAMEL STAR, ELLEMONSTA AND EMERALD ZEEL WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
