WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: ENJOY A DAY IN THE TRACK-SIDE LOUNGE H'CAP - 1350M.
TELE SERIES was slow to begin.
RACE 2: IMPRESS YOUR CLIENTS WITH A DAY AT THE RACES H'CAP - 1200M.
CHEEKY MONKEY jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start, EMGEE EM shifted out and made contact with AERO BELLE.
DEEARNE was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
RACE 3: ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP H'CAP - 1100M.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer S. Jones for the late notification of M. Bennett as the rider of MODEL BRIDE.
HAVACHAT was slow to begin.
SNOW BOARD jumped inwards at the start and made contact with GO JO.
Approaching the 1000m. when the pace steadied, ANGEL ANNIE had to be steadied off the heels of DANCE BABE and made contact with the running rail.
Nearing the 700m., when the pace slackened, SKY TIME commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of SNOW BOARD and shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of JUMPS and lost ground. JUMPS then was obliged to race wide from the 600m. until the entrance to the straight.
L. Appo, rider of ANGEL ANNIE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 100m., he angled his mount out to improve, taking LOOPY out on to MODEL BRIDE, which had to be checked. L. Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 July, and to expire at midnight, 3 August 2003.
Jockey M. Bennett was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on 5th placegetter, MODEL BRIDE.
RACE 4: ANY FUNCTIONS, WE HAVE YOUR VENUE H'CAP - 1100M.
Trainer R. Kirwan was fined $50 for failing to notify a rider for STORM GUARD by the prescribed time.
On jumping, LOYAL SUPPORT was hampered between HOLE IN THE ROAD and SAINT LEON, both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 200m. L. Fitzsimmons, rider of SAINT LEON, broke his whip.
LOYAL SUPPORT hung out despite the efforts of its rider in the straight.
Nearing the finishing line, L'ELEVE shifted in momentarily hampering JIVIN' GYM.
Jockey K. Pope, rider of LOYAL SUPPORT, reported that his mount had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
Stewards questioned trainer D. Forster in regard to the disappointing performance of SAINT LEON. Trainer Forster stated that the colt was first up after a short break and had also missed a trial leading up to today's race. Miss Forster further added that SAINT LEON must be ridden hard throughout its races for the colt to perform at its best. Stewards noted Miss Forster's comments. A veterinary examination of SAINT LEON failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 5: ADVERTISE YOUR COMPANY WITH US H'CAP - 1100M.
GO ARNIE and DANZIG'S STRIKE were slow to begin.
Approaching the 900m., GO ARNIE had to be steadied off the heels of PERONISTA. A short distance later, YEAZOFF shifted in, taking SILONT in on to GO ARNIE, which once again had to be steadied. S. Richardson, rider of YEAZOFF, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. HIT THE COT, which was following, also had to be steadied.
Nearing the 800m., MISS FAIRCHILD had to be checked off the heels of BIG CAT NAP on 2 occasions and lost considerable ground.
RACE 6: EYE LINER FUNCTIONS LOUNGE H'CAP - 1100M.
TELEWIN jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 7: RACEDAY PACKAGES H'CAP - 1200M.
TELAVON was slow to begin.
AWESOME SHADOW jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with MISS RUTHERFORD.
In the early and middle stages, CHA CHA D'AMOUR was obliged to race in a 3 wide position, and approaching the 700m., was forced wider on the track and raced in that position for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the 400m., CLOUDY ROW had to be momentarily steadied when SKY BID shifted in.
Nearing the 200m., AWESOME SHADOW was momentarily held up for clear running.
ALL WINNERS AND SAINT LEON WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
