WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD/GOOD AT 11.10 AM.
RAIL - 7M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL
The track rating was upgraded from dead to good at 11.10 a.m..
As A. Kennedy was injured, the following riding replacements were approved.
RACE 3 MY MAREMOSSO S. GALLOWAY
RACE 4 NOVADIER J. BYRNE
RACE 1: DAVE HILL FLOOR COVERER H'CAP 800M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by S. Galloway, rider of the 3rd placegetter, NITROGLYCERINE, against MIGHTY MOOSE being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 200m.. Stewards found that MIGHTY MOOSE moved out near the 200m. and made contact with NITROGLYCERINE, forcing it wider, and that near the 50m., MIGHTY MOOSE again shifted out, making contact with NITROGLYCERINE. Being mindful of the half head margin, the protest was upheld and the Judge's placings were subsequently amended to read: No. 6 - SEQUALO PRINCESS - 1st, No. 5 - NITROGLYCERINE - 2nd, and No. 4 - MIGHTY MOOSE - 3rd.
NITROGLYCERINE jumped away awkwardly and made contact with IN THE JUDGE'S BOX.
Shortly after the start, KOOMERANG TOO, which jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and hampered NITROGLYCERINE.
RACE 2: TURNERS TRANSPORT WACOL PLATE - 1010M.
SPEED EASY was a late scratching at 12.16 p.m. on veterinary advice.
SEMIFAIR jumped inwards at the start, forcing RATHER FIERY in on to LOOK HERE TROUSERS.
NORTHMAN, which raced outside the leader, was under pressure on straightening and had a tendency to lay in when struck with the whip. J. Byrne could offer no excuses other than the horse raced greenly. A veterinary examination of NORTHMAN failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: SHARRIN LINNEWEBBER HAPPY BIRTHDAY PLATE - 1010M.
FRISCO'S ROSE, which was kicked at the barriers, sustaining a laceration to the off hind leg, was subsequently withdrawn at 2.01 p.m. acting on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on FRISCO'S ROSE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
MY MAREMOSSO and FINLANDER were slow to begin.
THEY SAID jumped outwards at the start, taking NIGHT TIME GAL out.
FIRST THINGS FIRST and PETINSK came together on jumping away.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of THEY SAID, M. Pelling reported that the horse did not appreciate being bustled in the early stages and was somewhat reluctant to maintain its position between horses. He added that, in his opinion, the horse may be better suited when racing over a longer distance.
NIGHT TIME GAL was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon, who reported he could find no abnormalities with the filly.
RACE 4: WEST END OLD BOYS H'CAP - 800M.
Trainer D. Gollan was fined $100 for failing to declare N. Tomizawa as the rider of LION'S IMAGE by the prescribed time.
TRENDY STAR was a late withdrawal at 2.35 p.m. when the horse was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the near fore leg. Following the late withdrawal of TRENDY STAR, all monies invested on TRENDY STAR were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
SCARSELY LADY jumped outwards at the start and made contact with NOVADIER.
LION'S IMAGE jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the start made heavy contact with the hind quarters of CANADIAN SONG.
CANADIAN SONG was inclined to lay in shortly after the start.
RACE 5: QRSE COL'S TRANSPORT H'CAP - 1200M.
FAVONIUS was extremely slow to jump.
Near the 900m., TUSMANI STAR had to be steadied off the heels of DR GROUCH and shifted out, taking WHEN DID YOU KNOW wider.
OPEULIKEIM raced greenly around the home turn.
TUSMANI STAR also raced greenly rounding the home turn and shifted out, taking WHEN DID YOU KNOW and LEVERAGE wider on the track.
On straightening, TUSMANI STAR shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip, again causing inconvenience to WHEN DID YOU KNOW.
RACE 6: STRAND HOTEL IPSWICH H'CAP - 1010M.
Apprentice B. Grimston was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on ASIMBA.
ASIMBA jumped outwards at the start, taking ANOTHER PRINCESS out on to BALLY GOODKNIGHT, which in turn was tightened on to the hind quarters of CHARLAD.
INDIGESTION jumped outwards at the start, hampering COSMIC DREAM.
Approaching the 900m., ANOTHER PRINCESS and ASIMBA bumped.
ASIMBA faltered on at least 2 occasions approaching the 800m..
ASIMBA made the home turn wide and ran out in the straight.
Near the 200m., MONTE EXPESS shifted ground under pressure, taking HAUNTING RHYTHM out on to ANOTHER PRINCESS, which had to be checked when under pressure. M. Cant, rider of MONTE EXPRESS, was cautioned and instructed to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight.
ASIMBA cast its near fore plate in running.
RACE 7: MCPHERSON MECHANICAL H'CAP - 1515M.
MONKEY EACH WAY and LIBEA were tightened at the start between RETIREMENT DAY and CAUSAL, both of which shifted ground.
Rounding the home turn, STAR STRIKE had to be steadied off the heels of WITCH WAY WEST.
RACE 8: CORONATION HOTEL IPSWICH H'CAP - 1700M.
DIOCLES was slow to begin.
AMBON was buffeted shortly after the start between RANCHO'S LOVE and ACTIVE REST, which shifted out.
Rounding the first turn, ROLL YOUR OWN had to be eased off the heels of COVET SECA and shifted out, taking KAWENDE wider. HEAVEN'S QUEST, which was trailing, got its head up when being restrained.
Near the 100m., ARTISTIC FAME reacted adversely to being struck low with the whip.
Close to the finish line, TAYLA'S GOLD was inconvenienced between HEAVEN'S QUEST and KAWENDE, which shifted out under pressure.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
