Race 1: www.skychannel.com.au Maiden H'cap - 2150m.
1st - Irish Flame 2nd - Our Reflection 3rd - Battle Lover 4th - Shakerato
IRISH FLAME (K. Pope) was slow to begin.
FELLING (T. Treichel) was crowded for room and lost ground at the start when tightened between CHANSON MELODY (P. Hammersley) and WOODSMOKE (M. Palmer), both of which shifted ground.
SHAKERATO (B. Stewart) jumped inwards at the start, resulting in MALMO (R. Goltz) also being crowded when taken in on to the heels of WOODSMOKE.
STUART GROVE (H. Hamada) jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 1600m., WOODSMOKE (M. Palmer) was inclined to hang out and had to be steadied off the heels of SHAKERATO.
STUART GROVE shifted in near the 500m., resulting in MOMENT OF MAGIC (D. Hawkes) having to be eased. Apprentice H. Hamada, rider of STUART GROVE, was reprimanded and advised of his obligations to ensure he is sufficiently clear before shifting ground.
B. Stewart, rider of SHAKERATO, accidentally dropped his whip on the home turn.
Race 2: Woodstock Bourbon Class 4 H'cap - 1500m.
1st - Villosa 2nd - Archer's Pride 3rd - Special Langfuhr 4th - Tycoon Jester
Following an explanation from trainer L. Richardson, stewards took no action regarding D. Griffin's dual acceptance of rides on both INFECTIOUS and SANDALS. K. Wharton was substituted as the rider of SANDALS.
BRAVE GETLEMAN (R. Pittman) was slow to begin.
SOMETHING FOR KATE (T. Treichel) jumped awkwardly, striking the outside upright of the gates and losing ground.
SPECIAL LANGFUHR (S. Katsidis) jumped inwards at the start, hampering NEWTOWN LAD (J. Taylor).
Shortly after the start, INFECTIOUS (D. Griffin) was inclined to overrace for some distance, and approaching the 1000m., INFECTIOUS raced ungenerously, getting its head in the air. MUKQUIN (N. Day), which was following, also got its head up when being eased off the heels of INFECTIOUS.
NEWTOWN LAD (J. Taylor) and SOMETHING FOR KATE raced wide from the 800m. onwards.
Race 3: Belmont Tavern Class 1 H'cap - 1000m.
1st - Churchy La Femme 2nd - Rosamia 3rd - Winaqua 4th - Whatyoudoin
Trainer B. Baldwin was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for ELLE LIONNE by the prescribed time.
G. McKeon was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagements today. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
ROSAMIA (S. Katsidis) dropped its head as the gates opened and was slow to begin.
PUFF THE MAGIC (R. McMahon) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with MR SPORTSMAN (R. Goltz), which was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, WHATYOUDOIN (G. Colless) shifted in, resulting in SERENITY BLUE (R. Pittman) being hampered. G. Colless, rider of WHATYOUDOIN, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
WINAQUA (R. Plumb) was inclined to overrace leaving the 800m..
ROSAMIA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
OSLO (M. Smith-Lester) was also held up in the straight.
ULINGA BAY, which bled during the event, will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 4: Forest Lake Hotel 'Live It Up At Your Local' Maiden 3yo & Up F & M Mares Plate - 1200m.
1st - Allisee 2nd - Absolom 3rd - Miss Molly Dolly 4th - Chelseann
LEELINCHIN (B. El-Issa) lost ground at the start when tightened between RHODA'S ROSE (K. Wharton) and MISS MOLLY DOLLY (T. Treichel), both of which shifted ground.
MAD MOUSE (J. McKinnon) jumped awkwardly.
MISSDEE VALLEY (S. Katsidis) was crowded for room at the start by CHELSEANN (G. Colless), which jumped inwards, and ROSENDAHL (T.Pannell), which was taken out by ABSOLOM (B. McDonald).
ABSOLOM (B. McDonald) shifted out near the 750m., making heavy contact with CHELSEANN (G. Colless). Apprentice B. McDonald, rider of ABSOLOM, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Approaching the 500m., SEEING RED (K. Pope) was held up for some distance behind SIMPLY INNOCENT (N. Day).
Rounding the home turn, SIMPLY INNOCENT was inclined to race ungenerously.
Following the event, S. Katsidis reported that he was of the opinion that MISSDEE VALLEY had pulled up slightly shin sore.
Race 5: Evans & Evans Pools 'Splash' Maiden 3yo & Up CG&E Plate - 1200m.
1st - Space Dream 2nd - Prince Lionheart 3rd - King Jesmond 4th - Sensio
Trainer G. McDonald was advised that he would have to provide a barrier certificate for CROWN HIM KING, which proved difficult to load.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer N. Doyle for failing to scratching SUPERCILIOUS by the prescribed time.
ALVALDI (N. Day) and SENSIO (J. Sharp) were slow to begin.
GARRICK (S. Drake) blundered after clipping the heels of KING JESMOND (J. Taylor) near the 800m..
Leaving the 700m., as the pace slackened, both GARRICK (S. Drake) and ALVALDI (N. Day) were forced to ease and shift out to avoid heels, resulting in SENSIO (J. Sharp) having to be checked.
B. McDonald, rider of CROWN HIM KING, dropped her whip near the 400m..
GENERAL COURT (R. Plumb) raced greenly in the straight, and near the 100m. was obliged to ease off the heels of KING JESMOND (J. Taylor), which shifted in.
Stewards questioned apprentice B. McDonald and her master, trainer of CROWN HIM KING, Mr G. McDonald regarding the riding tactics adopted on the gelding, in particular why CROWN HIM KING raced unnecessarily wide throughout the race. After hearing explanations from B. McDonald and Mr G. McDonald, stewards advised both parties that they intended to make a recommendation to the Licensing Sub-Committee that apprentice B. McDonald's current provincial class licence be reviewed.
Race 6: Blue Star Towing Class 3 H'cap - 1200m.
1st - My Best Tycoon 2nd - Smarten Classy 3rd - Doctor Hennessy 4th - Spinning Web
PRINCE HARPO (R. Pittman), ANCIENT GOLD (G. Colless), TRANQUIL BLUE (R. Goltz) and CASACO (T. Treichel) were all slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m., CASACO was inclined to hang out, taking TRANQUIL BLUE wider on the track.
Near the 400m., TRANQUIL BLUE had to be steadied off the heels of MY BEST TYCOON (B. Stewart), which was taken in by CASACO.
Stewards reprimanded K. Pope, rider of SMARTEN CLASSY, for shifting out near the 200m., taking TRANQUIL BLUE (R. Goltz) out on to TANTAT XAAR, resulting in that horse being eased.
Race 7: City Pacific Finance Class 2 H'cap - 1350m.
1st - Rocktime 2nd - Sovereign Rush 3rd - Double Portion 4th - Lavinia Mary
TEAKER'S BLUE STAR (D. Green) was slow to begin.
LITTLE BEAUTIFUL (J. Taylor) jumped inwards at the start, resulting in KYLIE GIRL (G. Colless) having to be eased.
HALIBUT (C. Bumstead) began awkwardly with its head in the air.
FESTIVITIES (S. Galloway) hung out from the 800m. onwards.
Over the concluding stages, SOVEREIGN RUSH (G. Lynch), which was held up for clear running, shifted out, making contact with DOUBLE PORTION, which shifted out, tightening FESTIVITIES on to the hind quarters of SLING ME SOME (B. El-Issa), causing both horses to be hampered.
ROCK THE CLOCK (S. Drake) and SLING ME SOME (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned apprentice S. Drake concerning the performance of ROCK THE CLOCK, in particular with the gelding being ridden back in the field when the mare usually takes up a forward position. S. Drake explained that after the horse drew wide, her intentions were to press forward, however ROCK THE CLOCK had insufficient speed to improve, which resulted in her making the decision to restrain back. Stewards noted her explanation.
Race 8: XXXX As Good As Gold Class 1 H'cap - 1666m.
1st - Oriental Peace 2nd - Agrios 3rd - In Good Time 4th - Cor Caroli
As C. Whiteley was indisposed, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of ORIENTAL PEACE.
COR CAROLI (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
BIRRI (N. Thomas) overraced during the early stages of the race, then shifted out approaching the 1000m. to avoid heels.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for IN GOOD TIME (D. Green) falling shortly after passing the winning post. After taking preliminary evidence from J. Taylor, rider of ORIENTAL PEACE, S. Drake, rider of COR CAROLI and M. Palmer, rider of AGRIOS, along with the stewards' observations, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to enable D. Green, who had been transported to hospital of observation, to give evidence. Trainer P. Sexton, representing trainer D. Tunnah, was advised that a veterinary clearance would have to be provided for IN GOOD TIMES prior to its next race start.
Stewards questioned G. Colless regarding the poor performance of I'M A NUISANCE. Jockey Colless was unable to shed any light on the performance, adding that the horse travelled well with cover, however when asked to improve at the 550m., I'M A NUISANCE commenced to capitulate. The explanation was noted.
