Approaching the 100m MADGE WILDFIRE (B. El-Issa) shifted out, slightly hampering SHEDDING (K. Wharton).
Race 2: G.J. TRANSPORT QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE
1st – Ivory 2nd – Bridal Suite 3rd – Naval Commander 4th – Silver Dane
BODEREK (K. Pope) jumped in at the start tightening the running of ITTYBITTYPRETTYONE (K. Wharton) which was slow to begin.
BODEREK was forced to race wide until the 600m.
TROJAN RULER (B. El-Issa), which was inclined to hang out, raced wide on the home turn.
A post-race veterinary examination of BODEREK revealed no abnormalities.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that BRIDAL SUITE was showing signs of a respiratory infection and that it had sustained a minor injury to the off hind coronet. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness would have to be produced before the filly's next race start.
Race 3: A.P.T. TRANSPORT CLASS 1 H'CAP – 800M
1st – Dulacca Diva 2nd – Examiner 3rd – Serenity Blue 4th – Miss Clang
WESTDRUMS, which was injured en route to the track, was a late scratching at 11.30 a.m. on veterinary advice.
SERENITY BLUE (R. Pittman) shifted out at the start making contact with MISS CLANG (M. Radecker), which in turn shifted out making contact with EXAMINER (J. Taylor).
Shortly after the start WANT A BUCK (R. Mason) shifted out causing KIAP (C. Eaton) to be tightened on the hind quarters of CAFÉ FAITOLE (M. Wood), resulting in KIAP being checked and losing considerable ground.
POCKET EXPRESS (D. Green) and SERENITY BLUE both hung out rounding the home turn.
Connections of SONGKURAI (J. Sharp), which hung out making the home turn and then shifted out under pressure in the straight hampering POCKET EXPRESS, were advised that a warning would be placed on that filly's racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination of SONGKURAI revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4: TIMS HOLDINGS GROUP MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M
1st – Bena 2nd – Damnation 3rd – Exciting Heights 4th – Scotians Charm
Trainer J. Thomas was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare P. Hammersley as the rider of BENA by the prescribed time.
S. Drake, the rider of SARGE MCGRATH, which jumped away awkwardly, losing ground, reported that shortly after the start the blinkers on that gelding had slipped and were obscuring the horse's vision and that approaching the 800m she was able to reposition the blinkers.
LOCHNESSMONSTA (B. Swanton) reared as the gates opened and lost ground.
Approaching the 900m PALMY (J. Taylor) was forced to ease from the heels of SCOTIANS CHARM (L. Appo) which shifted in.

MR CLANCY (K. Wharton) was forced to race wide throughout.
FIRST ECLIPSE (J. Bowditch) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and for a short distance in the straight.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of MERRY PIERCE, apprentice R. McMahon advised that he felt the horse would take improvement from the run as this was its first start since a spell. He was also of the opinion that the horse may be better suited in races over a longer distance. A veterinary examination of MERRY PIERCE revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ROCKATTHECROC, K. Pope stated that after being tightened for room approaching the 800m to the inside of MONABELLE, the gelding was inclined to hang out and continued to do so for the remainder of the event to the extent that K. Pope stated that he was obliged to swap his whip over in the straight to ride the gelding out. Trainer S. Dwyer stated that he felt the horse may have pulled up slightly sore in the off hind leg and advised stewards that the horse would be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of ROCKATTHECROC confirmed the gelding to be slightly lame in the off hind leg.

CLARENCE PEAK (K. Pope) was caught wide in the early and middle stages.
When questioned regarding his tactics on NOTHIN' LEICA CUZA between the 1100m and leaving the 800m, C. Small stated that his instructions were that the horse had to lead and when he felt the pace slacken leaving the 1100m he elected to ride forward and obtain the lead. He also stated that after a discussion with trainer R. Dawson he felt the horse would now be spelled.

Approaching the 100m LORD RUPERT had to be checked from the heels of FAIRWEATHER when tightened for room between that horse and KEEP A DREAM ALIVE, which shifted in. Both apprentice R. Mason and K. Wharton were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
ALL WINNERS AND MERRY PIERCE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
