As J. Bowditch, P. Hammersley, A. Spinks, M. Price and P. Randall were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Labour Day Families Day 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Stresso 2nd – General Bonaparte 3rd – Let There Be Rock 4th – Runaway Fund
LOGIE (M. Heagney) and LET THERE BE ROCK (J. Holder) were tightened for room at the start between JASLIE (D. Griffin) and A DIAMOND (J. Powell), which shifted out.
Shortly after the start, SIMPLY HIGH (J. Sharp) shifted out making contact with BALLET MUSE (D. Tanti).
LET THERE BE ROCK overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 800m, GENERAL BONAPARTE (R. McMahon) shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of JASLIE, which shifted in.
JASLIE commenced to hang out rounding the home turn. BALLET MUSE (D. Tanti), which was following, had to be steadied and shifted out. J. Bayliss, trainer of JASLIE, was advised that JASLIE must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Leaving the 50m, SIMPLY HIGH, which was laying in, had to be steadied off the heels of A DIAMOND.
IDOL THREAT (C. Kearney) and JASLIE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Liquor Hospitality & Miscellaneous Union Labour Day 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Lucky Encounter 2nd – Revered Ruler 3rd – Kahlua Kiss 4th – Royal Watch
PALDOOKA (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.
VEESARME (J. Sharp) shifted in at the start, making contact with KAHLUA KISS (S. Drake).
REVERED RULER (A. Nicholls) raced greenly in the early stages and leaving the 1000m shifted making contact with DEMETER’S COURT (R. McMahon).
Leaving the 800m, ABUNYA BELLE (L. Rolls), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of JE SUIS ROCKSTAR (D. Tanti). VEESARME (J. Sharp), which was following, had to be steadied. ABUNYA BELLE then continued to overrace for a short distance.
Passing the 600m, VEESARME shifted out and bumped PALDOOKA.
KAHLUA KISS (S. Drake) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
LIIGHTNING MCQUEEN blundered leaving the 200m.
LIGHTNING MCQUEEN had to be steadied near the 100m when tightened for room between REVERED RULER and LUCKY ENCOUNTER (J. Powell), which shifted in.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DEMETER’S COURT, R. McMahon stated that after being slow into stride he rode the filly forward to obtain a position in the lead, and approaching the 450m, DEMETER’S COURT commenced to compound and failed to run on for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination of DEMETER’S COURT revealed the filly to have an abrasions to its mouth. Trainer K. Schweida undertook to inform stewards of any abnormality which may come to light which may explain the poor performance of DEMETER’S COURT.
Race 3: CFMEU And NTEU Labour Day 4you & Up Maiden H’cap – 1350m
1st – Roman Ace 2nd – Sahara Noble 3rd – Sweet Leah 4th - Scared
SHINKARNIE (C. Spry) was slow to begin.
GOLDWYN (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.
KING JASAR (S. Drake) overraced in the early stages and approaching the 1000m had to be steadied off the heels of OUR KYNISKA (B. El-Issa), which shifted in. KING JASAR then continued to overrace and leaving the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of SOLOMON’S CROWN (D. Tanti).
Leaving the 600m, ZABINSKI (K. Wharton) shifted out, making contact with CHRYSALLIS (N. Thomas).
Approaching the 100m, ZABINSKI (K. Wharton) shifted in and away from ROMAN ACE, making contact with SAHAR NOBLE (L. Rolls).
GOLDWYN (J. Holder) raced wide for the majority of the event.
K. Wharton, rider of ZABINSKI, pleaded guilty to a charge rider AR137(a), in that he failed to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race. K. Wharton was fined the sum of $200.
Race 4: Queensland Council Of Unions Labour Day QTIS 3yo & Up Maidne Plate – 1350m
1st – Barwon River 2nd – Margy Magic 3rd – Coxless 4th – Top Ross
KINGKOBEN (B. Cornell) began awkwardly.
SAVELSA (J. Sharp) was slow to begin.
RAINBOW FIVE (C. Eaton) shifted out, making contact with GOTHEFONG (A. Taylor) at the start.
Leaving the 800m, MARGY MAGIC (D. Griffin) had to be steadied off the heels of KINGKOBEN, which shifted out.
BARWON RIVER (G. Palmer) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
SH’BOURNE KAHLUA (S. Seamer) was held up rounding the home turn and then again over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of BARWON RIVER, trainer M. Brosnan advised that due the gelding getting its tongue over the bit in recent starts she added a tongue-tie to the gear of BARWON RIVER today which, in her opinion, contributed to the improve performance of the gelding.
Race 5: Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union Labour Day Class 3 Plate – 1350m
1st – Showify 2nd – Master Illusion 3rd – Southern Sister 4th – A Secret Kept
TOP GUN LANE (D. Barron) jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000m, TOP GUN LANE and SHOWIFY (J. Powell) were tightened for room between COMMANDSA BLUE (R. McMahon) and SOUTHERN SISTER (D. Griffin), which shifted in.
Rounding the home turn, GREENHEART (S. Katsidis) was tightened for room between SHOWIFY (J. Powell), which shifted out, and MASTER ILLUSION (J. Holder), which shifted in.
LEGES OPINIO (K. Pope) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Queensland Teacher’s Union Labour Day Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Main Vein 2nd – Eternal Fortune 3rd – Medium ‘N’ Rare 4th – Fortunate Choice
DASHABLONDE (D. Peisley) began awkwardly.
MEDIUM ‘N’ RARE (T. Pannell) and MAIN VEIN (D. Griffin) came together at the start.
DASHABLONDE overraced in the early stages and approaching the 900m, had to be steadied off the heels of REONMAY (K. Wharton), which in turn had to be eased off the heels of SEQUEDO (C. Spry).
T. Pannell, rider of MEDIUM ‘N’ RARE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FORTUNATE CHOICE, resulting in FORTUNATE CHOICE having to be checked. T. Pannel was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 May, and to expire at 23 May 2007.
Approaching the 800m, MAIN VEIN had to be steadied off the heels of FORTUNATE CHOICE (D. Tanti).
Leaving the 300m, REONMAY and SOUND HARMONY (B. El-Issa) were tightened for room between MAIN VEIN, which shifted in, and EL PECADOR (J. Sharp), which shifted out.
KENTISH ROSE (S. Seamer) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 7: Ipswich Wide Reality Sprinter’s Cup Class 6 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Mersey Beat 2nd – In My Sights 3rd – Primodoro 4th – Chain Of Thought
CODIFY was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.10 a.m. Trainer L. Ross will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for CODIFY prior to its next race start.
VEXING (M. Kai) was slow to begin and shortly after was tightened between PRIMODORO (A. Merritt) and THE CHANSTER (J. Holder), which shifted out.
Rounding the home turn, MERSEY BEAT (C. Whiteley) shifted out and making contact with CONROD STRAIGHT.
MERSEY BEAT then shifted out approaching the 200m, making contact with CONROD STRAIGHT.
CONROD STRAIGHT (L. Rolls) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post race veterinary examination of THE CHANSTER failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 8: CFMEU Mining & Energy Labour Day Stayer’s Cup Class 6 H’cap – 2150m.
1st – Shale Shaker 2nd – Semi Final 3rd – Moon Echo 4th - Tsolias
WANT TO BREAK FREE (M. Rice) was tightened for room at the start between SEMI FINAL (B. El-Issa) and MOON ECHO (A. Merritt), which shifted out.
Rounding the home turn, TSOLIAS (R. McMahon) shifted out, making contact with SHALE SHAKER (C. Spry).
Leaving the 200m, TSOLIAS (R. McMahon) was momentarily tightened for room between SHALE SHAKER (C. Spry) and MOON ECHO (A. Merritt), which shifted out.
A post race veterinary examination of MOON ECHO revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near hind leg.
Race 9: Australian Manufacturing Workers Union Labour Day Class 2 H’cap – 1609m
1st – Aladoro 2nd – Utah Red 3rd – Proceed To Warn 4th - Stentorian
ALADORO (D. Griffin) and KAYCEE’S BID (S. Apthorpe) were slow to begin.
DOUBLE BOGEY (K. Wharton) and AGENT EIGHTY SIX (A. Taylor) came together at the start.
Leaving the 500m, KAYCEE’S BID (S. Apthorpe) improved up on to the heels of DOUBLE BOGEY (K. Wharton) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 200m, MR ALBERT (J. Sharp) had to be steadied off the heels of KAYCEE’S BID, which shifted in.
PROCEED TO WARN (B. El-Issa) was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
AGENT EIGHTY SIX raced wide for the majority of the race.
