SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Stewards today inquired into a report from stipendiary steward Mr R. Hitchener that he observed Mr S. Hamade leading a horse at Clifford Park Racecourse on 20 August when it was established that Mr Hamade was unlicensed. Trainer Mrs T. Hamade was found guilty of contravening LR43 by using the services of an unregistered person. As Mrs Hamade had been penalised on 2 occasions in a short period of time for breaching this rule, stewards ordered that her trainer’s licence be suspended for a period of 2 months. Stewards ruled that in accordance with Local Rule 36(b), that period be suspended in total for a period of 6 months, conditional that she does not breach the relevant rule in that period. Stewards also imposed a fine of $1000, and Mrs Hamade was allowed 2 months to pay such fine.

THE TRAPS ARE SET, which reared in the barriers striking its head, was declared a late scratching at 1.40 pm on the advice of the club’s veterinary surgeon, who ruled the horse not fit to race. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on THE TRAPS ARE SET were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
SLINKY CHELLE (R. Wiggins) reared at the start.

Due to the horse’s behaviour, stewards ordered that WYNNUM HIGH must trial satisfactorily before it races again.
Nearing the finish line, ZANNIPOUR (J. Pujolas) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PRINCE HATTAL, which shifted out under pressure.
Stewards questioned trainer L. Richardson as to the instructions today in having PROBABILITY ridden closer to the lead than the horse had been in the past. Mr Richardson explained that he had instructed apprentice Piper to make use of the good alley and to ride the horse in a forward position today as opposed to its previous start when it raced at the rear of the field. Mr Richardson added that in hindsight he felt that the horse was not suited to being bustled. Mr Richardson’s attention was drawn to the provisions of AR135A, which requires him to notify stewards of any variation in the manner in which the horse was to be ridden.

Near the 400m, ROYAL PLUMAGE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FAIR HALO (R. McMahon).
When questioned regarding CASTLE HOWARD racing in the lead today, trainer R. Heathcote stated that he had not specifically instructed jockey S. Scriven to lead, however he did indicate that the horse had not been racing well and had instructed the rider to have the horse positioned where it was comfortable and to take advantage of the good barrier. Mr Heathcote added that he was of the opinion that the gelding had come to the end of its preparation and would recommend to the connections that CASTLE HOWARD be spelled.

App. C. Dixon, rider of WEST OF HOLLYWOOD, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of LITTLE MISS BARBIE (D. Green), which resulted in that horse then being forced in on to SUCH IS LUCK (B. El-Issa), causing that horse to be checked, and resulting in WUSTA (S. Galloway), which was racing to the inside of SUCH IS LUCK, being inconvenienced. C. Dixon was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24.8.08 to midnight, 7.9.08.
