Due to transport difficulties, ABOVE THIS and BISCAYS BEST were declared late scratchings at 9.30 am and LA PINOT at 11.30 am. As betting had commenced when the scratching of LA PINOT had reached bookmakers, stewards ordered all monies invested on LA PINOT prior to the withdrawal time be refunded, and deductions of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets applied to bets above the line.

LIJUDARO (J. Cook) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

I’M ALL YOURS (C. Priest) shifted out shortly after the start, inconveniencing ECCLESIA (M. Hellyer).

ABUNYA BELLE (M. Wood) shifted out rounding the first turn, making contact with I’M ALL YOURS, causing that horse to be cramped for room inside ECCLESIA.

When the pace slowed approaching the 1400m, I’M ALL YOURS had to be steadied when it improved to the inside of BOLD DANCER (J. Wood), which was inclined to race ungenerously. ABUNYA BELLE also raced ungenerously in restricted room as a result of the slow pace.

After being caught wide approaching the 1400m, ECCLESIA was ridden forward to assume the lead near the 1300m.

As a result of the slow pace near the 1000m, LIJUDARO shifted out from the rails, forcing I’M ALL YOURS wider on the track.

A post race veterinary examination of LIJUDARO revealed the mare had bled from one nostril. Connections were advised that the horse must perform a 1000m gallop before stewards prior to its next race start.

Race 2: Mallets Carpet Choice Ipswich QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 800m
1st –Jam Tin 2nd – Backup Plan 3rd – Princess Of Rock 4th – Lord Maxwell

LADY CHICANE was declared a late scratching at 12.58 pm when it was kicked by another runner behind the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on LADY CHICANE were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer J. Dawes’ representative was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for LADY CHICANE prior to its next race start.

LORD MAXWELL (S. Scriven) and GENTILLY GIRL (B. Hull) were tightened for room on jumping away between SAMTEATRO (G. Geran) and JAM TIN (A. Pattillo), which jumped outwards.

FLINDERS ZAHA (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

PRINCESS OF ROCK (S. Bogenhuber) jumped away awkwardly.

LORD MAXWELL hung out on the home turn.

Close to the finish line, TIGER CAT (J. Wood) was tightened for room between LORD MAXWELL (S. Scriven) and YUKON MYSTERY (T. Pannell), which was taken out by BACKUP PLAN (S. Katsidis). S. Katsidis, rider of BACKUP PLAN, was reprimanded and instructed to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in the run to the finish.

T. Pannell, rider of the 5th placegetter, YUKON MYSTERY, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish.

A post race veterinary examination of PRINCESS OF ROCK revealed the filly to have bled. Connections were advised that the filly would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 3: Ace Computer World F&M Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Be Kind 2nd – Samantha’s Opinion 3rd – Makeba 4th –Scarlett Jo

MAKEBA (J. Byrne), which was kicked by another runner behind the barrier, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

SAMANTHA’S OPINION (S. Katsidis), which was a little slow to begin, was severely checked after the start when tightened for room between ELKIES IMAGE (R. Goltz), which shifted out, and ONE MORE SHOT (G. Geran), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted inwards.

MISS ATTANAGH (S. Bogenhuber) and ADOPA (M. Wood) jumped away awkwardly.

TOUCHWOOD (A. Pattillo), which was a little slow to begin, was severely checked shortly after the start between THE JAM (C. Reith) and SMART OF COURSE (J. Wood), which jumped away awkwardly, making contact with KINTYRELYUPTOYOU (C. Eaton), which then shifted outwards. As a result of KINTYRELYUPTOYOU shifting out, SMART OF COURSE was severely checked and blundered just after the start.

BE KIND (K. Yoshida) was inclined to lay in for some distance after the start.

Approaching the 400m, SCARLETT JO (M. Hellyer) became unbalanced and shifted in, making contact with the running rail. SAMANTHA’S OPINION (S. Katsidis), which was following, was hampered as a result of this incident.

Near the finish line, MAKEBA (J. Byrne) and SCARLETT JO brushed when both horses shifted ground slightly.

MISS ATTANAGH lost its near fore shoe in running, and ONE MORE SHOT lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: Blue Ribbon CG&E Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Man Of Means 2nd – Retrospect 3rd – Check The Leader 4th - Factotum

CHESTERS’ EXPRESS (A. Taylor) blundered on jumping away and then made contact with CHECK THE LEADER (J. Letherby), which jumped away awkwardly.

I DON’T REMEMBER (J. Holder) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with GAME POWER (D. Griffin).

RAJHUSSAR (J. Wood) was inclined to overrace for some distance approaching the 800m.

I DON’T REMEMBER was inclined to race fiercely approaching the 800m, and also had a tendency to lay out rounding the turn near the 800m.

D. Griffin, rider of GAME POWER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that upon straightening he shifted out when insufficiently clear of SEQUALO’S PRIDE (J. Kehoe) which, when weakening, had to be checked. HENTIESBAAI (T. Pannell), which was racing to the outside of SEQUALO’S PRIDE, also had to be checked off the heels of CHESTER’S EXPRESS. D. Griffin was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 December and to expire at midnight, 31 December.

Near the 150m, FACTOTUM (M. Hellyer) had to be checked when it hung out on to the heels of RETROSPECT (R. Goltz).

Race 5: Gorilla Sports Class 2 H'cap – 1690m
1st –Mr Nicholas 2nd – Mythical King 3rd – Tickle Me Quick 4th - Guanahani

Due to transport difficulties, GODS RIVAL was declared a late scratching at 9.30 am by order of the stewards.

CAPE LEVEQUE (R. McMahon) and WULLKURAKA (R. Goltz) were cramped for room shortly after the start by TICKLE ME QUICK (K. Ashton), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. K. Ashton was severely reprimanded and instructed to provide more clearance when crossing after the start.

At the 350m, TOMIRUF (A. Pattillo) had to be checked when tightened for room between WULLKURAKA (R. Goltz) and MR NICHOLAS (J. Bowditch), which shifted out to improve. J. Bowditch, rider of MR NICHOLAS, was reprimanded and instructed to provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CAPE LEVEQUE, R. McMahon explained that the horse pulled hard in the early stages of the race, and near the 800m was obliged to shift out 3 wide to proceed forward when he was having difficulty restraining the horse. R. McMahon added that when 3 wide the horse hung out and did not finish the race off over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of CAPE LEVEQUE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 6: Vikings Futsal Class 1 H'cap – 1350m
1st – Aqua Calda 2nd – Iggy’s Girl 3rd – Fields Of Plenty 4th - Rogues

TORYMEMAN (J. Letherby) jumped away awkwardly and for some distance after leaving the 1000m overraced and proved difficult to control.

Shortly after the start, PRINCE OF THIEVES (J. Byrne) was inclined to lay in on to DEB’S PICK (K. Banks) and ABOUT EVE (M. Palmer). When J. Byrne, rider of PRINCE OF THIEVES, attempted to straighten his mount, the gelding had to be steadied off the heels of HOT FOSTERS (W. Moore), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. W. Moore, rider of HOT FOSTERS, was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when crossing.

Near the 1100m, FIELDS OF PLENTY (J. Holder) shifted in when not sufficiently clear of IGGY’S GIRL (P. Wolfgram), causing that horse to be cramped for room and become unbalanced and come into contact with the hind quarters of DEB’S PICK (K. Banks). J. Holder, rider of FIELDS OF PLENTY, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

PRINCE OF THIEVES (J. Byrne) was inclined to overrace rounding the first turn.

Near the 600m, TORYMEMAN (J. Letherby), which had been racing ungenerously, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROGUES, which shifted out to improve.

Passing the 150m, TORYMEMAN shifted out under pressure and made contact with BINRASY (S. Katsidis). TORYMEMAN again shifted out close to the finish line and bumped BINRASY.

Near the finish line, FIELDS OF PLENTY had to be steadied when AQUA CALDA (S. Scriven) shifted out under pressure.

Trainer I. Hunt reported that the cheekers attached to RADIO broke in the early stages of the race. The gear was subsequently inspected and found to be of satisfactory quality.

When questioned as to the riding tactics adopted in the early stages on ROGUES, jockey R. McMahon stated he had been given the option of going forward if the horse jumped well enough, and if he felt there was superior speed on his inside to settle the horse back midfield from its wide draw today. R. McMahon stated that after giving the horse a slap on jumping he noticed several runners on his inside going forward and he elected to shift across behind runners. Trainer R. Pereira stated that whilst the horse had raced forward previously, she felt that the better option, given the horse’s wide draw today, may be to position the horse back in the field and left those options with the rider.

Race 7: Dal Ponte CG&E Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Convictor 2nd – No Ransom 3rd – Television 4th – Nobody Knows

NOBODY KNOWS (R. Goltz) had to be checked at the start when tightened between NO RANSOM (S. Seamer), which shifted in slightly, and CHAIRMANSHIP (A. Pattillo), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

TELEVISION (J. Holder) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with MR AZNAVOUR (C. Reith), which jumped away awkwardly.

HAWK EYED (S. Scriven) and CHAIRMANSHIP (A. Pattillo) were caught wide on the first turn and raced wide for the majority of the event.

TELEVISION was presented to race in blinkers when the horse was approved to race in blinkers with a near-side cup only. Staff at the barriers were able to remove the off-side blinker cup and the horse raced in its approved gear. After hearing an explanation from trainer M. Eggleston, stewards took no direct action other than to issue him with a severe reprimand for presenting the horse with incorrect gear.

Race 8: Top Marc/Merry Christmas F&M Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Seqsational 2nd – Miss Streetem 3rd – A Touch Of Frost 4th – Flinders City

NOOSA BAY (M. Hellyer), which jumped away awkwardly, and COMZELITA (J. Holder) were both tightened for room on jumping away between SMARTAAT (M. Radecker) and SEQSATIONAL (M. Speers), which shifted out.

NOOSA BAY was inclined to race ungenerously at the heels of BRILLIANTES (J. Byrne) passing the 800m.

Rounding the home turn, FLINDERS CITY (S. Katsidis) was inclined to race ungenerously at the heels of SEQUABOOMWA (M. Wood).

On straightening, FLINDERS CITY (S. Katsidis) shifted out, taking NOOSA BAY wider on the track. NOOSA BAY then shifted out, forcing COMZELITA (J. Holder) out on to SMARTAAT (M. Radecker).

DANNI’S IMPACT (A. Pattillo) raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SEQUABOOMWA, apprentice M. Wood stated that the horse never travelled well at any stage today and as a consequence did not finish the race off. M. Wood added that following the race connections indicated to him that the horse would, in all probability, be sent for a spell. Trainer K. Schweida confirmed that the horse would be spelled.
