Race 1: SKY RACING PLATE – 2200M.
1st – Bullchase 2nd – Cotham 3rd – No Shackles 4th – Majestic Jewel
Correct weight was delayed to enable R. Wiggins, the rider of 2nd placegetter COTHAM, an opportunity to view the patrol films to see if there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner BULLCHASE (B. Stewart) regarding an incident approaching the finish of the event. After viewing the film, R. Wiggins advised that he did not wish to proceed with the matter and therefore correct weight was given on the numbers as semaphored.
TUSHUK (S. Bogenhuber) and TINBEERWAY (R. Hinricks) made contact on jumping away.
WHISPERING ACT (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 2000m PURE DEVIL (D. Griffin) and TINBEERWAH were tightened for room when racing between CATCH KATHLEEN (S. Guymer) and MAJESTIC JEWEL (S. Katsidis), which shifted out at that point. S. Katsidis was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for shifting ground at that stage.
CATCH KATHLEEN overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
TUSHUK was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
BULLCHASE and COTHAM came together and brushed at the finish of the event.
A veterinary examination of RENT OUT (J. Murphy), which tired badly after racing wide over the final 800m, found no abnormalities at the time of examination. B. Robinson, trainer of RENT OUT, advised stewards it would be his recommendation that the horse be retired from racing.
Race 2: YALUMBA WINES PLATE – 800M.
1st – Last Tango 2nd – Bernadecio 3rd –Adangertohimself 4th – Forest Redgum
BERNADECIO (M. Hellyer), ANNADE (J. Taylor) and FLICKA LIGHT (A. Kitson) were all slow to begin.
VOTE FOR PEDRO (C. Spry) was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
CATCHER ROYALE (J. Stanley) raced greenly throughout the event.
Leaving the 200m WORKSFORME (L. Rolls) was crowded for room when racing between FOREST REDGUM (S. Katsidis) and LAST TANGO (S. Galloway), both of which shifted ground.
KBARIS (M. O’Brien) was held up for clear running over the final 100m.
Race 3: OPTUS BUSINESS DIRECT PLATE – 1025M.
1st – In A Tangle 2nd – Marculoo 3rd – Flash Jester 4th – Red Husserati
FALFARIO (K. Wharton) and PLUM DUFF (A. Erhart) made contact on jumping away.
FRISCO RAIN (B. Stewart) was slow to begin and approaching the 800m attempted to buck. Connections were advised that FRISCO RAIN must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before racing again. A post-race veterinary examination of FRISCO RAIN failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Leaving the 200m PLUM DUFF was disappointed for a run between RED HUSSERATI (R. Hinricks) and FLASH JESTER (S. Bogenhuber).
Following the running of Race 3 the track was upgraded to DEAD 5.
Race 4: RAY WHITE IPSWICH H’CAP – 1710M.
1st – Spechenka 2nd – Out Of Reach 3rd – Slender Option 4th - Daringart
TICKLE ME QUICK (R. Hinricks), which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
TAHITI DREAM (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly.
DARINGART (S. Bogenhuber) was held up for clear running from near the 300m until approaching the 100m.
Stewards sought an explanation from C. Reith, the rider of ESPRIT SOLEIL regarding that horse’s poor performance. C. Reith advised that the horse never travelled well at any stage of the event. Trainer N. Doyle confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and advised stewards of his intention to send the horse for an immediate spell. In view of this undertaking, stewards took no further action in the matter.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUMMERSLITTLEANGEL, A. Taylor expressed concerns with the horse’s action as in her opinion the horse never travelled well at any stage. A post-race veterinary examination of SUMMERSLITTLEANGEL failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer B. Trimble confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and advised stewards of his intention to have immediate blood tests carried out on the filly. In view of this undertaking, stewards adjourned the matter to allow the results of the tests to become known.
Race 5: RECRUITMENT QUEENSLAND H’CAP – 1350M.
1st – Trombone Alley 2nd – Lord Bellanskey 3rd – We Are Happy 4th – Tarjay
WE ARE HAPPY (J. Byrne) underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers after the jockey expressed concerns with the horse’s action. However, after examination the horse was passed fit to start.
ZANZI (M. Hellyer) and TROMBONE ALLEY (B. Stewart) made contact on jumping away.
Apprentice C. Priest, the rider of MUCHO MUCHO DENIRO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 800m she shifted her mount wider on the track, resulting in HELLUVA HURRY (S. Katsidis) being checked and obliged to race wider from that point onwards. C. Priest’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 14.02.10 and expire at midnight on Friday, 26.02.10. Stewards further directed that apprentice Priest attend a session under the direction of the Riders Skills Advisory Panel to assist in improving her riding standard.
CENTURY ROCK (C. Whiteley) was inclined to hang out over the final 600m of the event.
MUCHO MUCHO DENIRO (C. Priest) hung in under pressure over the final 300m.
A post-race veterinary examination of ST PANCRAS MOON (B. Thomson), which was inclined to hang in during the race and performed poorly, yielding ground over the final 400m, was found to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer J. Thomas will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before the mare again races.
Following the running of Race 5 the track was upgraded to DEAD 4.
Race 6: QUEENSLAND TIMES, OUR LOCAL NEWS H’CAP – 1025M.
1st – Song For Guy 2nd – Brave ‘N’ Ample 3rd – Hardacttofollow 4th – Encosta Sequalo
AGENT ALVIN (B. Thomson) was tightened on jumping away between BRAVE ATTEMPT (A. Spinks) and ENCOSTA SEQUALO (J. Bowditch), which shifted out.
Leaving the 600m BRAV ‘N’ AMPLE shifted out to improve and in doing so forced LOVE THAT LION (D. Green), BRAVE ATTEMPT and AGENT ALVIN to race wider on the track. It was subsequently ascertained that in this incident LOVE THAT LION was galloped on on the near hind leg and sustained an abrasion and bruising over the tendon.
Race 7: SCHWEPPES H’CAP – 1025M.
1st – Marg’s Gold 2nd – Her Pic 3rd – Grandiva 4th – Arctic Echo
LOVE HIT ME (M. Hellyer), which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly and lost ground.
NIGHT ESCORT (G. Colless) was tightened on jumping away between BAY CITY KITTY (D. Griffin) and ARCTIC ECHO (S. Katsidis), which shifted in.
K. Pope, the rider of MARG’S GOLD, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to reaching the 100m.
LOVE HIT ME was found to have blood in one nostril after the completion of the event. Acting under the provisions of AR. 53A(7), trainer T. Pascoe was advised that LOVE HIT ME must perform a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward before racing again.
Race 8: XXXX AS GOOD AS GOLD H’CAP – 1350M.
1st – Gold Land 2nd – Double Glow 3rd – Nobody Knows 4th – Bionic Rock
As M. Speers was ill, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of BINRASY.
MONSIEUR MARCEAU was a late scratching at 12.21 p.m. following advice from trainer K. Bushell that the horse had sustained an injury prior to leaving for the track. Mr Bushell was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate regarding the incident.
OFTEN WRONG (J. Holder) and BINRASY (J. Taylor) made contact on jumping away.
MARGETTE (Matthew Palmer) began awkwardly.
Near the 1000m DOUBLE GLOW (L. Rolls) was placed in restricted room, resulting in that horse making contact with the running rail when racing to the inside of EXOLART (A. Erhart), which had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider.
Leaving the 1000m NOBODY KNOWS (R. Goltz) raced ungenerously at the heels of BEAUTIFUL MEMORY (D. McWhinney) and shifted out taking GOLD LAND (M. Hellyer) and SANDWOOD (A. Taylor) wider on the track. NOBODY KNOWS continued to race ungenerously and near the 600m shifted in making contact with BINRASY.
Rounding the home turn HELLO BOSS (A. Spinks) was tightened for room when racing between EXOLART and OFTEN WRONG, which shifted out to improve. J. Holder, the rider of OFTEN WRONG, was reprimanded for shifting ground at that point when insufficiently clear.
