GENERAL:

As J. Byrne, L. Cassidy and G. Geran were ill and A. Spinks was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: WOOMERA CLUB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – Four Joy 2nd – Junabee Rose 3rd – Our Boy Bill 4th – Hydraulics

L. Finlay was fined $100 for failing to comply with a stewards’ direction relating to the production of a medical certificate.

ACES ‘N’ KINGS (P. Hammersley) and SNAPPY VIXEN (R. Wiggins) were both slow to begin.

Near the 400m SNAPPY VIXEN was crowded for room when racing to the inside of OUR BOY BILL (B. Derbyshire) which shifted in and away from MISTER LOUIS (M. Hellyer).

HYDRAULICS (L. Finlay) had a tendency to lay out in the early stages of the straight and near the 300m took MISTER LOUIS wider on the track.

Race 2: IPSWICH GRAMMAR SCHOOL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Syrian Shiraz 2nd – Cooinda 3rd – Bakobi 4th – Botanical Belle

Trainer C. Jordan was fined $200 under LR. 67 for the late notification of M. Hellyer as the rider of OLIGARCH.

SIR SLIPPER was a late scratching at 8.35 a.m. on veterinary advice. Trainer T. Crane was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for SIR SLIPPER prior to its next start.

Due to transport difficulties, T. Treichel was unable to arrive on course on time to fulfil his engagement on DJEBEL'S IMPACT and BLEVIC DANCER (Race 4) was replaced by J. Taylor on both runners.

VANITY ACT (A. Smith) and HIDDEN PLAY (M. Abe) were slow to begin.

COOINDA (C. Munce) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with BOTANICAL BELLE (R. McMahon).

COOINDA, HIDDEN PLAY and BAKOBI (D. Missen) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

HIDDEN PLAY tired badly over the final 600m resulting in the horse being uncompetitive. Trainer H. Richardson will be advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before again racing. Jockey M. Abe was reprimanded under AR. 137A(4)(c) for his use of the whip on HIDDEN PLAY when that horse was uncompetitive. A post-race veterinary examination of HIDDEN PLAY revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards questioned jockey P. Hammersley and trainer D. Brown regarding the tactics adopted on SYRIAN SHIRAZ today where the horse led compared to the previous riding tactics adopted on the horse. Ms Brown stated that her instructions to the jockey were that if the horse began well, to have it in a midfield position. P. Hammersley confirmed the instructions and stated that the horse, after beginning well, was caught wide and as a result he elected to allow the horse to stride forward, however with no specific intent to obtain the lead, and when unchallenged remained in the lead position. P. Hammersley further advised that in his opinion SYRIAN SHIRAZ, although leading today, would be better ridden with a sit in future engagements. After considering the matter, stewards took no further action other than to remind Ms Brown of her obligation to notify stewards of any significant changes in riding tactics as it was the clear intention to have the horse in a more handy position today than at its previous starts.

A post-race veterinary examination of OLIGARCH (M. Hellyer) revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards questioned J. Taylor, the rider of DJEBEL'S IMPACT, regarding the tactics and overall performance of the mare. J. Taylor said that he was given no specific instructions on the horse and rather than apply pressure to hold the lead position, he elected to take a trail approaching the 900m. He further stated that he was disappointed with the finishing performance of DJEBEL'S IMPACT as the horse has a known finishing sprint.

Race 3: SMARTLINE PERSONAL MORTGAGER ADVISERS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1700M
1st – Colour Me Grand 2nd – Our Gold Stash 3rd – Big Max 4th – Ourmaninamsterdam

Connections of IF IT CAN IT WILL (D. Greville) advised that it will be the intention to have the gelding ridden on the pace today if circumstances permit. After being fractious in the barriers, the horse began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field.

OUR GOLD STASH (A. Kitson) overraced in the early and middle stages.

EASY LAGER (J. Warrington), AI JO (K. Yoshida) and IF IT CAN IT WILL all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 600m BANDIDAS (R. McMahon) was tightened for room when racing between EASY LAGER, which was commencing to yield ground, and OUR GOLD STASH which shifted out.

OUR GOLD STASH shifted out and bumped BANDIDAS near the 500m.

OUR GOLD STASH was held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

Leaving the 300m EASY LAGER, when under pressure and yielding ground, was tightened for room when racing between AI JO and CARN (M. Hellyer), which shifted out to improve.

Stewards questioned D. Greville regarding the performance of IF IT CAN IT WILL. D. Greville stated that the horse raced erratically in the early and middle stages of the event but failed to settle and hung out rounding the home turn resulting in him being unable to fully test the gelding. Trainer K. Schweida was instructed not to start IF IT CAN IT WILL again until satisfied that the gelding will perform in the desired manner. A post-race veterinary examination of IF IT CAN IT WILL revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: PENNYWISE CASH LOANS MAIDEN PLATE – 1025M
1st – Monashee Success 2nd – Fawza 3rd – Tiyatro 4th – Seven Wonders

An objection was lodged by A. Pattillo, the rider of 2nd placegetter FAWZA, against MONASHEE SUCCESS (J. Stanley) being declared the winner, alleging interference leaving the 300m and again inside the 100m. After taking evidence from A. Pattillo, J. Stanley and representatives for the owners of FAWZA and MONASHEE SUCCESS, stewards were of the view that at a point near the 300m FAWZA, in the opinion of the stewards, did not establish the run between LITTLE RIP SNORTER (O. Turpin) and MONASHEE SUCCESS at that point. In relation to the final 100m of the event, stewards were of the view that whilst acknowledging MONASHEE SUCCESS did shift ground, they could not be satisfied to the required standard that the incident warranted a reversal of the placings and as such correct weight was given on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

BLUEPRINT LADY (P. Hammersley) was tightened on jumping away between TIYATRO (C. Munce) and FAWZA (A. Pattillo), both of which shifted ground. As a result of FAWZA contacting BLUEPRINT LADY, A. Pattillo became unbalanced in the saddle.

ROCK MODE (K. Banks) was slow to begin.

MY OPPORTUNITY (E. Kehoe) raced wide throughout.

LITTLE RIP SNORTER (O. Turpin) hung out rounding the home turn, taking MONASHEE SUCCESS, TRETEMPO (R. McMahon) and TIYATRO wider on the track.

Approaching the 200m FAWZA was disappointed for a run between LITTLE RIP SNORTER and MONASHEE SUCCESS.

TIYATRO had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the final 200m.

O. Turpin, the rider of LITTLE RIP SNORTER, stated that the horse raced greenly throughout the event. S. Essery, trainer of LITTLE RIP SNORTER, stated that he will consider sending the mare for a spell.

Race 5: BRASSALL MEDICAL CLINIC CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1025M
1st – Giddyupjayjay 2nd – Queen Thyra 3rd – Jopa 4th – Built Tough

BUNDY (T. Huxham) blundered on jumping away.

ZOFA (R. McMahon) and BUNDY raced wide throughout.

BUNDY hung out badly rounding the home turn.

GIDDYUPJAYJAY (J. Stanley) and BUILT TOUGH (K. Yoshida) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Race 6: JIMMY LIVINGSTONE FABRICATIONS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Show Me An Ace 2nd – Kid Tycoon 3rd – Savage River 4th – All My Heart

SHOW ME AN ACE (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly.

ALL MY HEART (C. Munce) was tightened shortly after jumping away when racing between ALLURE SPENDER (S. Drake), which shifted in and away from CARRY THAT WEIGHT (M. Hellyer), and SECRET PLEASURE (R. McMahon), which shifted out and away from LA MARIPOSA (R. Wiggins).

KID TYCOON (L. Finlay) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.

CARRY THAT WEIGHT raced ungenerously in the early stages.

SECRET PLEASURE and ALLURE SPENDER both raced wide for the majority of the event.

When the pace of the race steadied at the 800m LA MARIPOSA improved up on to the heels of IRISH GUARD (P. Keane) and shifted out, taking SECRET PLEASURE and ALLURE SPENDER wider on the track. SKILFUL RAIN (M. Gray) and CARRY THAT WEIGHT, which were trailing, were both inconvenienced as a result.

Approaching the 400m LA MARIPOSA was crowded for room when racing to the inside of SECRET PLEASURE and the outside of IRISH GUARD, which was taken out by FREQUENT FLYER (T. Harrison) when that horse hung out.

Leaving the 200m IRISH GUARD and SECRET PLEASURE were both tightened for room and severely hampered when racing to the inside of SHOW ME AN ACE and to the outside of ALL MY HEART and FREQUENT FLYER. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that C. Munce was in the process of shifting ALL MY HEART wider on the track to obtain clear running, however FREQUENT FLYER, which was racing forward of ALL MY HEART, hung out at that point causing ALL MY HEART to shift wider on the track. After considering the matter, both C. Munce and T. Harrison (FREQUENT FLYER) were reminded of their obligations to ride in a careful manner in such situations. LA MARIPOSA, which was trailing, was inconvenienced in this incident.

Race 7: TOTAL FASTENERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Preacher Boy 2nd – Path To Freedom 3rd – Tom’s Choice 4th – Untouchable Doll

DUKE HOUSE (P. Schmidt) knuckled over on jumping away and shifted in bumping TINY SECRET (R. Goltz).

PATH TO FREEDOM (R. Wiggins) had a tendency to shift out when placed under pressure over the final 200m.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CAP DANCER, J. Taylor said that the horse never travelled well at any stage and as he was concerned with the horse’s action never placed the mare under any significant pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of CAP DANCER revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will interview trainer B. Bowditch regarding the performance and program for the mare at a later date.
