SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

As C. Kearney, L. Williams and P. Hammersley were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Eagle Boys Pizza QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap - 1609
1st – Sandy’s Dragon 2nd – Wishmore 3rd – Danshan 4th – Strike A Pose

The start of this race was delayed when TOPETTE proved difficult to load. Trainer T. Gorring was advised that a warning would be placed on TOPETTE regarding its barrier manners.

At the start, ANNEKE (S. Bogenhuber) and RATWOODS (M. Hellyer) bumped.

TOPETTE (M. O’Brien) shifted out at the start, making contact with DANSHAN (D. Griffin).

TOPETTE and SANDY’S DRAGON (B. Wallace) both overraced in the early stages.

Approaching the 600m, RATWOODS shifted out around the heels of ANNEKE to improve, resulting in TOP TASSELL (A. Butler) being forced wider on the track.

Over the final 200m WISHMORE (D. Tanti) hung out when placed under pressure.

DANSHAN was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Apprentice A. Butler was asked to explain the disappointing performance of TOP TASSEL. Apprentice Butler stated that he settled further back in the field than anticipated when trailing RATWOODS when that runner was restrained to a trailing position behind TOPETTE. He added that from the 500m when he placed TOP TASSEL under pressure the gelding failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in the run to the finish.

Race 2: Eagle Boys Pizza – Visit Our Store At Ipswich Maidnen Plate – 800m
1st – Shoeshine Boy 2nd – Angelonmyshoulder 3rd – Stormy Arrival 4th – Miss Hanky Panky

MISS HANKY PANKY (B. Richardson) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing CHARLIE’S CHOICE (Matthew Palmer).

FALVELANI (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.

A short distance after the start, ASHA SECRET (J. Taylor) was tightened for room between SHOESHINE BOY (J. Letherby) and STORMY ARRIVAL (N. Yamada), which shifted out slightly.

After entering the home straight, STORMY ARRIVAL shifted in under pressure and approaching the 200m made contact with the running rail.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Bogenhuber regarding the disappointing performance of FALVELANI. S. Bogenhumber stated that after being slow to begin, the filly raced greenly throughout the race and was momentarily tightened for room near the 700m when racing inside ANGELONMYSHOULDER (D. Tanti), which shifted in slightly, and as a result of its greenness was unable to make any ground. She further added that, in her opinion, FALVELANI would be better suited in races over longer distances than that of today’s race. Stable representative Mr D. Gollan was advised that FALVELANI must compete in a trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of FALVELANI failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from FALVELANI.

When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of SHOESHINE BOY, trainer B. Azel stated that SHOESHINE BOY trialled well leading into this preparation and he was satisfied with the gelding’s performance first up at Eagle Farm on 21 December 2011. He added that at its most recent start in a Class 1 race, the gelding was slow to begin and was unable to make any ground when placed under pressure by its rider from the 600m. He further added that following its last start he removed the blinkers from SHOESHINE BOY and he was confident of a forward showing today.

SHOESHINE BOY lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 3: Eagle Boys Pizza Maiden H'cap – 1525m
1st –Brascan 2nd – Ezypayday 3rd – Sir Joel 4th - Warship

Rounding the home turn, BRASCAN (J. Taylor) shifted wider on the track in order to improve, which resulted in TATT’S LUCKY (A. Pattillo) being taken wider. BRASCAN continued to race wide until crossing to the lead near the 900m.

BUNKERED (A. Best), TATT’S LUCKY and RED DELIGHT (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

T. Harrison, rider of SIR JOEL, accidentally dropped her whip on the home turn.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of BRASCAN, trainer M. Maunder stated that at the gelding’s last start BRASCAN, which was having its first start for his stable, was slow to begin and then overraced in the early and middle stages, which, in his opinion, was a major factor in BRASCAN being unable to finish the race off. He added that BRASCAN was better suited today when being able to stride forward in the early stages and dictated the tempo of the race, further adding that the rain-affected track suited the gelding.

Race 4: Eagle Boys Pizza – Visit Our Store At Raceview C.G.&E Class 1 H'cap
1st – Tail And All 2nd – Barely An Angel 3rd – One Green Bottle 4th - Intenzo

HIGHER ORDER (R. Wiggins) stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Trainer G. Clunes indicated to stewards that the gelding would now be spelled. Mr Clunes was advised that HIGHER ORDER would be required to compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to racing again.

Leaving the 800m, SHADY OUTFIT (M. Wood) improved onto the heels of ONE GREEN BOTTLE and shifted out, taking O’BRO (T. Harrison) wider on the track.

After passing the 400m, ITALA PRINCE (J. Taylor) was tightened for room between O’BRO, which shifted in slightly, and HIGHER ORDER, which shifted out to improve.

M. Hellyer, rider of INTENZO, was unable to ride his mount out in his normal manner when tightened for room between BARELY AN ANGEL (D. Griffin) and ONE GREEN BOTTLE nearing the finish line when both horses shifted ground under hard riding.

O’BRO and ITALA PRINCE (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of ONE GREEN BOTTLE. C. Munce explained that ONE GREEN BOTTLE was under pressure from the 700m when SHADY OUTFIT improved to his outside, and although the horse did not quicken under his riding in the home straight, he was not completely dissatisfied with today’s effort. He further added that, in his opinion, the determinative factor today was that the gelding had to carry 59 kilograms on a rain-affected surface and, in his opinion, ONE GREEN BOTTLE will be better suited in future over further distance and stepped up in class where it would be able to gain some weight relief.

Race 5: City Of Ipswich F & M Class 1 H'cap – 1350m
1st – Faultless dancer 2nd – Little Antics 3rd – Secret Pleasure 4th - Depasse

LITTLE ANTICS (P. Keane) and ALL THE GIRLS GOLD (R. Wiggins) were slow to begin.

Soon after the start, TOOLATETOAPOLOGISE (T. Harrison) was hampered by PHILOCRACY (J. Letherby), which shifted out away from WILLHAVEAHUNDRED (S. Galloway).

PHILOCRACY raced wide throughout.

M. Palmer reported that HILL AND GRACE did not handle today’s rain affected track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of HILL AND GRACE revealed the horse to be short striding in front and lame in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Anderson was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for HILL AND GRACE prior to its next race start.

A post race veterinary examination of PHILOCRACY, which compounded badly in the home straight, was found to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for PHILOCRACY prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Channel 7 Class 1 H'cap – 1609m
1st – Tanzania 2nd – Desert Vision 3rd – Noble Jester 4th – Hardman Harry

DON’T WALK AWAY was declared a late scratching at 3.38 pm due to transport difficulties. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on DON’T WALK AWAY were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

0 cents in the dollar for the winner Tanzania
3 cents in the dollar for the place of winner Tanzania
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Desert Vision
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place Noble Jester

HARDMAN HARRY (J. Letherby) was slow to begin.

MACUSHNA (B. Looker) and DANCING CRIMINALS (P. Keane) made contact at the start.

J. Letherby, rider of HARDMAN HARRY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SILVER TRUMP, which resulted in SILVER TRUMP having to be checked. J. Letherby was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 January and to expire at midnight, 5 February.

Approaching the 1300m, when T. Harrison attempted to restrain GENEVA GOLD to obtain cover, it commenced to overrace and for some distance was awkwardly placed at the heels of DANCING CRIMINALS.

MACUSHNA raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of BACK IN LOUISIANA, which weakened badly in the straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
1st –Red Mohican 2nd – Stephen Got Even 3rd – Starlistic 4th – Shoot Through

Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for SHOOT THROUGH by the prescribed time.

SHOOT THROUGH (B. Looker) was slow to begin.

When asked to explain the performance of DODGING EDDIE, C. Munce stated that the gelding was unable to muster any early speed and that he had to ride the horse vigorously during the middle stages in an attempt to keep in touch with the main body of the field. He added that in the home straight, DODGING EDDIE found the line strongly and, in his opinion, will be better suited in races over further distance than today’s event.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, STEPHEN GOT EVEN (T. Harrison) was unable to secure clear running.

Over the final 50m, STEPHEN GOT EVEN (T. Harrison) shifted out under pressure, which resulted in SMART OF COURSE (P. Keane) having to alter course to the inside of the heels of STEPHEN GOT EVENT, and DODGING EDDIE (C. Munce) being inconvenienced approaching the winning post. T. Harrison, rider of STEPHEN GOT EVEN, was issued with a reprimand.

DIAMOND HEIST (M. Palmer) and STARLISTIC (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice P. Keane regarding his riding of SMART OF COURSE, particularly from leaving the 600m until the entrance to the home straight. P. Keane explained that he was instructed to ride SMART OF COURSE back in the field, and after beginning well he took hold of the mare to comply with these instructions. He added that after passing the 800m, SMART OF COURSE did not feel comfortable on the rain affected track and despite his urgings was unable to make any ground on the main body of the field. P. Keane further added that SMART OF COURSE began to travel well after passing the 600m but rather than attempt to improve his position wider on the track to the outside of STARLISTIC (R. McMahon), he elected to remain to the inside and save valuable ground. P. Keane stated that he had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and for this reason he shifted to the outside of the heels of STEPHEN GOT EVEN in order to improve. Stewards accepted his explanation.
