Leaving the 400m, DR HOUSE (P. Schmidt) momentarily raced in restricted room between SIR WILLIAM (N. Tomizawa) and SHE’S FIRED UP (A. Spinks, rider of SHE’S FIRED UP, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
WHITE SMOKE blundered near the 300m.
MISSAMORK (G. Cooksley) raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure and became unbalanced near the 200m and shifted out, which resulted in SAND LANE (R. McMahon) being forced wider at that point.
SIR WILLIAM and WHITE SMOKE raced wide for the majority of the race.
Trainer G. Blades was advised that the nomination of TUESDAY FIASCO, which finished a considerable distance from the remainder of the field, would be refused at provincial TAB meetings until the filly showed improved form through the way of country meetings.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MISSAMORK, trainer T. White advised stewards that he was not disappointed with the filly’s previous run at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m when it led the field into the home straight, and with the shorter distance of today’s event and a firmer surface, he was confident MISSAMORK would perform well today. Stewards noted his explanation.
A post race veterinary examination of DR HOUSE, which compounded in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Sky Racing QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st –Bee Plus 2nd – Flying Lamborgini 3rd – Quantum Shadow 4th – Red Empire

QUANTUM SHADOW (J. Byrne) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event.
From leaving the 1000m to near the 600m, FLYING LAMBORGINI commenced to overrace and had to be restrained off the heels of RED EMPIRE for some distance.

Rounding the home turn, WARLADY (R. Hurdle) shifted out, making contact with COASTAL (D. Tanti), resulting in D. Tanti losing the use of his off-side iron for a short distance.
Stewards questioned apprentice A. Badger regarding her ride on GUV’S LAD, in particular from the 1200m to the 800m, where stewards were of the opinion she should have been able to hold a position on the back of TOUCH ME KNOTT (G. Cooksley). Apprentice Badger stated that she was under instructions to have the horse race in a forward position, however was further advised that the horse does have a tendency to overrace if ridden along in the early stages. With that in mind she elected to settled GUV’S LAD just off the pace where she felt the horse commence to relax and was reluctant to pressure her mount at this stage of the race for fear of it overracing. However, in her opinion, she felt she may have allowed the horse to get further back than was anticipated. She further stated that approaching the 600m she did endeavour to improve and improved on to the heels of NEWSTART and had to be steadied for some distance. Trainer P. Balzen advised stewards he was disappointed that GUV’S LAD had got further back in the field than he had hoped, however confirmed the instructions given to apprentice Badger and was pleased with the manner in which GUV’S LAD finished the race off. Being mindful of the submissions made, stewards advised apprentice Badger and her master, Mr N. Doyle, that in the opinion of the stewards she had erred in not holding the back of TOUCH ME KNOTT between the 1200m and 800m, resulting in GUV’S LAD getting further back in the field than it should have been. Stewards however were of the opinion that this error was not such as to hold her culpable under the Rules of Racing, however strongly advised her to examine the race further with her master, Mr N. Doyle, for further tuition regarding this matter.
Stewards questioned D. Tanti regarding the tactics adopted on COASTAL in that the horse was ridden in a rearward position as compared to its recent previous starts. Jockey Tanti stated that his instructions were to ride COASTAL in its customary forward position, however after drawing a wide barrier, COASTAL was unable to muster enough speed to cross the inside runners and as such elected to go back to find a position closer to the rails. Trainer M. Thexton confirmed the instructions for COASTAL to be ridden in a forward manner but agreed with D. Tanti’s decision to go back and find cover. She further advised stewards after being pleased with the way COASTAL finished the race off, that it would now be her intention to have the horse ridden in a similar manner to that of today’s event.
A post race veterinary examination of GOTADOLLAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Green’s licence was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 5 meetings, to commence at midnight, 30 June and to expire at midnight, 7 July. In considering penalty the stewards took into account D. Green’s exemplary race riding record.

Stewards questioned apprentice T. Harrison into the tactics adopted on LENTINI MIST, which raced in a more forward position than that of its previous starts.
