Both BURNING FLAME (M. Hellyer) and AMAIZING DRAGON (S. Apthorpe) were slow to begin.
BRONCO (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in BURNING FLAME having to be steadied soon after the start.
ROUBLE ROSE (B. Richardson) and BRONCO hung out leaving the 500m and as a result ROUBLE ROSE and BRONCO made contact at the 400m, causing both horses to be momentarily unbalanced.
ROUBLE ROSE again had to be steadied off the heels of BRONCO leaving the 400m.
BRONCO had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight.
GOT NEWS FOR YOU lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 2: Yarra Burn Maiden H'cap – 1520m

LOTZA MATEZ (R. Jamieson) and DECIBEL DAN made heavy contact on jumping away.
EISENHEIM (J. Byrne), which was initially slow to begin, shifted out, making contact with BRIDIES BOY (P. Hammersley).
HARKAWAY GIRL (L. Cheshire) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
Leaving the 700m, EISENHEIM shifted out to improve and in doing so forced DECIBEL DAN wider on the track.
LOTZA MATEZ was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
After passing the 150m, MONSOON MAJESTY (J. Taylor) shied away from SMACKER (K. Matheson) and in doing so made contact with the running rail and had to be steadied.
Race 3: Woodstock Honey & Cola Class 2 H'cap – 1680m
1st – Rosanov 2nd – Our Gold Stash 3rd – Stigori 4th – Tizzy Lizzy
STIGORI (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.
STIGORI raced wide in the early stages of the event until taking up a position in the lead near the 1100m.
BINRASY (B. Richardson) raced wide in the early stages.
ROSANOV (G. Colless) raced wide over the final 800m.
Near the 400m, OUR GOLD STASH (R. Jamieson) was crowded for room when racing to the inside of ROSANOV, which laid in at that point.
Leaving the 300m, OFFSET PRINCE (J. Taylor) improved up on to the heels of ROGERTHEREDNECK (D. Griffin) and had to be steadied and alter course.
D. Griffin reported that ROGERTHEREDNECK had a tendency to hang out throughout the race and he became concerned with the horse’s action over the final 300m. A post race veterinary examination of ROGERTHEREDNECK confirmed by its action that the horse had jarred up in running, and had an ulcer on its near side cheek. Trainer M. Jacobs advised stewards he would have further veterinary tests carried out on the gelding and undertook to report to stewards the results of such tests.

Near the 700m, MEZANCE (K. Matheson) had to be steadied off the heels of HEBRON ROAD (L. Cassidy) when that horse shifted in.
T. Bell, rider of HUSANI, was reprimanded for allowing HUSANI to shift out under pressure approaching the finish line, which resulted in HILL AND GRACE (D. Griffin) being taken out on to TRADIES HOPE (B. Richardson), which in turn forced HEBRON ROAD (L. Cassidy) out on to MEZANCE (K. Matheson).
SAN FERNANDO (A. Hearn) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Apprentice jockey A. Hearn, rider of SAN FERNANDO, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
Stewards questioned trainer M. Lakey regarding the improved performance of HUSANI today as compared to its unplaced run at St George on 21 July. M. Lakey stated that at St George the horse appeared to flounder in the going in the middle stages of the event and did not finish the race off as expected. He added that in the interim 5 weeks since the St George race, the horse had trialled satisfactorily and he did expect a more forward showing today. Stewards noted Mr Lakey’s comments, however did remind him of his obligations to inform stewards of any matter that may have been a contributing factor to the horse’s performance.
Jockey S. Bogenhuber was questioned by stewards regarding the riding tactics adopted on SHINER today, particularly in the early stages of the event which saw the horse settle in a rearward position when there appeared to be an opportunity available to trail behind the leader, TYCOON’S BEST. S. Bogenhuber stated that the horse could not muster speed in the early stages of the event and was not travelling well and was crowded for room leaving the 1000m. She further added that SHINER commenced to travel better from the 800m and as such she eased the horse wider on the track rounding the home turn, however Miss Bogenhuber was disappointed with the horse’s finishing effort in the straight. Stewards after considering the matter, were critical of the positioning of the horse in the early stages but could not be satisfied to the required standard that Miss Bogenhuber had erred.
