Race 1: Ainsworth Game Technology Maiden H'cap – 1666m
1st – Moochin 2nd – Papa Gee 3rd – Rip Rip Wodchip 4th - Lookoutmate

BOLD PROSPECT was declared a late scratching at 8.54 am due to personal circumstances regarding trainer G. Osborne.

PAPA GEE (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.

SNIFF (R. McMahon) had a tendency to overrace in the early stages.

Stewards questioned R. McMahon regarding the disappointing performance of SNIFF. R. McMahon stated that the horse was under pressure from the 700m and he became concerned with its action over the final 200m of the event and proved most disappointing. Trainer’s representative Mr G. Cameron was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the performance of SNIFF and was advised that SNIFF would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of SNIFF failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 2: Brothers Leagues Club Class 2 H'cap – 1350m
1st – Haitchque 2nd – Baroness Zeena 3rd – Gold Serpent 4th - Withdru

STRADIVARI MISS (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.

GOLD SERPENT (T. Harrison) hung out approaching and rounding the home turn, making contact with BARONESS ZEENA (L. Cassidy) and forcing that horse wider on the track. L. Cassidy, rider of BARONESS ZEENA, advised stewards that after being bumped by GOLD SERPENT rounding the home turn, his mount got on its wrong leg and failed to finish off the race as expected. A subsequent veterinary examination of GOLD SERPENT found the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to its off hindleg.

Race 3: Brand & Slater Architechts Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Jacquetta 2nd – All Our Wives 3rd – Two Wishes 4th – Romeo Lad

ALL OUR WIVES (R. Jamieson) began awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with ROMEO LAD (D. Tanti).

JACQUETTA (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn, RISING SKY (G. Cooksley) shifted out and away from OUTBACK PRIDE (T. Harrison), which was inclined to lay out, and in doing so, RISING SKY (G. Cooksley) made heavy contact with ROMEO LAD, causing that horse to blunder and almost fall. A subsequent veterinary examination of OUTBACK PRIDE found the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to its offside hindleg. Trainer K. Fleming’s representative was advised that a warning would be placed on OUTBACK PRIDE regarding the horse being uncompetitive again in its race and would expect an improvement in its performance when OUTBACK PRIDE again races.

ALL OUR WIVES had a tendency to shift out under pressure over the final 300m and near the 100m, TWO WISHES (L. Cassidy) was obliged to alter course to the inside of ALL OUR WIVES as a result of that horse shifting ground. R. Jamieson, rider of ALL OUR WIVES, was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten her mount when shifting ground.

Race 4: Jim Bean Class 1 H'cap – 2150m
1st – Bridies Boy 2nd – Sandy’s Dragon 3rd – Lady Carlson 4th - Magic Option

LOXLEY (S. Bogenhuber) and BRIDIES BOY (J. Byrne) made contact on jumping away.

LADY CARLSON (M. Hellyer) and RUTHLESS BABE (D. Tanti) made contact on jumping away.

HEAR THE BEAT (R. Jamieson) raced wide in the early stages.

MAGIC OPTION (T. Harrison) lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 5: Schweppes QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st – Smakatus 2nd – Red Hot Dazzler 3rd – Alpine Dragon 4th - Cornered

Trainer R. Maund was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for IF HE DON’T by the prescribed time.

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer B. Laming to remove the cross-over noseband from the gear of ALPINE DRAGON after advising that he had officially effected such gear change. Stewards will investigate the matter with the Trainers’ Service Centre.

SMAKATUS (B. Stewart) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with RED THRILLER (M. Cahill), which in turn shifted out, bumping CORNERED (J. Lloyd) out on to RED HOT DAZZLER (R. McMahon), which in turn shifted out, bumping SPIRIT OF AMBER (P. Hammersley) out on to IF HE DON’T (D. Tanti). IF HE DON’T lost ground in this incident.

SILVER RIVER (L. Rolls) began awkwardly and shifted out.

Leaving the 900m, RED THRILLER had to be steadied after improving up on to the heels of SMAKATUS.

RED HOT DAZZLER had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

NOTHING TO BURN (M. Hellyer) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight, and approaching the 100m shifted in, crowding the running of SILVER RIVER.

Approaching the 50m, CORNERED was obliged to alter course after improving up on to the heels of ALPINE DRAGON (J. Byrne).

MR DODO (L. Cassidy), SPIRIT OF AMBER, SILVER RIVER and NOTHING TO BURN raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 6: The XXXX Island F&M Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Ruby Qualo 2nd - No Win No Wine 3rd – Brilliant Rose 4th – Single In London

After riding in Race 2, R. Wiggins was stood down on medical advice after aggravating an injury sustained at trackwork this morning. A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of GYPSY’S REVENGE.

ELITE ATEATES (L. Cassidy) shifted out at the start, bumping SINGLE IN LONDON (M. Hellyer).

NO WIN NO WINE (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.

GRAB THE LOOT (S. Bogenhuber) was slow into stride.

RUBY QUALO (B. Stewart) was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 200m.

BRILLANT ROSE (P. Hammersley) was obliged to race 3 wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ELITE ATEATES, L. Cassidy stated that the horse travelled well until placed under pressure in the straight and, in his opinion, failed to run out the 1200m of today’s event. Trainer S. Ryan agreed with the assessment of jockey Cassidy regarding the performance of ELITE ATEATES and indicated to stewards he would be freshening the mare up and looking to place it in races over a shorter distance than that of today’s race. Stewards noted the comments.

Race 7: Yalumba CG&E Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Unpublished Critic 2nd – Fine Gold 3rd – The Zedhorse 4th – Reggae Man

A pre-race veterinary examination of VALIANT HEART, which had not started for a considerable period of time, cleared the horse to start.

Near the 900m, IN MEMORIAM (R. Hurdle) was crowded for room when racing to the inside of THE ZEDHORSE (R. Goltz), which was taken in by DANCING AL (A. Pattillo).

Leaving the 800m, BEYOND IMAGINATION (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between FELINE GREIGHT (L. Rolls) and IN MEMORIAM (R. Hurdle), which shifted out.

UNPUBLISHED CRITIC (M. Cahill) raced greenly in the straight.

When questioned regarding the tactic to lead in today’s event as compared to the normal racing pattern of UNPUBLISHED CRITIC, M. Cahill stated that whilst there was no agreed tactic to lead in discussions with trainer P. Nolan prior to the event, the lack of pace in the race, in his opinion, was a factor that he took into account. He added that after UNPUBLISHED CRITIC began well, he elected to push forward in an endeavour to obtain a forward position, which resulted in the gelding obtaining the position in the lead. He further added that UNPUBLISHED CRITIC raced well in that position, and he was of the view that the horse would be better suited in future races to that role. Stewards noted his comments.

R. Hurdle was questioned regarding the performance of IN MEMORIAM. He stated that the gelding was, in his opinion, field shy and raced greenly throughout. Jockey Hurdle added that leaving the 700m he shifted out to improve into the race, however from the home turn, IN MEMORIAM was left flatfooted and did not run on as expected in the home straight. Trainer P. Balzen stated that following today’s event he would now be sending IN MEMORIAM for a spell to allow the horse to mature.
