SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
From SCTC 25.10.13 – Race 6: Trainer M. Reardon reported that ISIS DEVIL had pulled up well after its disappointing performance and agreed with the comments of jockey J. Stanley that the horse did not run out a strong 1400m and he would now drop the horse down in distance for its next start.
From Rockhampton 25.10.13 – Race 7: Trainer M. Reardon reported that subsequent to this event COVERT CHARMOUR had pulled up lame in the near foreleg and would now be sent for a spell. Mr Reardon was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next start.
GENERAL
As W. O'Connell was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: MELBOURNE CUP DAY CELEBRATIONS AT THE ITC BM 70 H’CAP – 2180M
RAUNCHY'S WARRIOR (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1400m LIFE PATROL (C. Schmidt) shifted out, inconveniencing RAUNCHY'S WARRIOR.
When asked to comment on the disappointing performance of LIFE PATROL, apprentice C. Schmidt stated that at its previous start the horse was able to lead without being pressured and it finished the race off well. She added that when LIFE PATROL could not lead today the horse did not respond to her riding and was beaten prior to the home turn.
Race 2: BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB IPSWICH CLASS 3 PLATE – 1700M
ON THE DECK (C. Munce) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped STORM MAGIC (T. Jeffries).
Leaving the 1400m STORM MAGIC had a tendency to lay in and away from MAIN STREET (Matthew Palmer), inconveniencing ON THE DECK.
A post-race veterinary examination of MAIN STREET, which compounded in the home straight, revealed the gelding to be lame in both fetlocks, sore over the rump and to have been galloped on on the near hind leg. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that MAIN STREET will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.
When asked to comment on the performance of RIVER OF GLORY, M. Cahill stated that whilst the horse did not overrace, it also did not settle as he would have liked in the early and middle stages and this may have had a bearing on the performance.
Race 3: BRAND & SLATER ARCHITECTS C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
On return to scale A. Pattillo, the rider of WORLD SERIES, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against ONGOING VENTURE (P. Holmes) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage, stewards found that approaching the 100m ONGOING VENTURE shifted in under riding when not fully clear of WORLD SERIES, resulting in WORLD SERIES having to be severely checked and losing ground. However, bearing in mind the proximity of the interference to the finish line and that in their opinion the amount of ground lost by WORLD SERIES did not exceed the 4¼ lengths separating both horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings. At a subsequent inquiry P. Holmes pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in under hard riding when insufficiently clear of WORLD SERIES, resulting in WORLD SERIES having to be severely checked and losing ground. P. Holmes' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 November and expire at midnight on Friday 22 November 2013 . In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Holmes' previous good record, however also took into account the severity of the interference suffered by WORLD SERIES.
PERSIAN TIGER (W. Abbey) and MANARIKI (Matthew Palmer) were both slow to begin.
D'ARCY ARMS (K. Forrester) raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 4: BLUE RIBBON MOTORS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
NORTHERN WARRIOR (T. Harrison) was tightened for room at the start between L'ENTRECOTE (J. Byrne) and TANGARA (R. McMahon), both of which shifted ground.
NORTHERN WARRIOR overraced in the early stages.
Apprentice J. Johnson reported that ROCK LANE shifted in abruptly at a point near the 500m after she applied the whip.
A post-race veterinary examination of INSOLENT (T. Jeffries) revealed the gelding to be lame in both front and hind legs. Trainer T. Webb was advised that a veterinary clearance for INSOLENT would be required prior to its next start.
Race 5: ASAHI PREMIUM BEVERAGES F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
SLUGSBROTHERTURBO was a late scratching at 12.40 pm for veterinary reasons.
HONEY BE WARNED (A. Spinks) began awkwardly and made heavy contact with LUCY'S CHARM (Michael Palmer).
Near the 1000m HONEY BE WARNED overraced and had to be steadied off the heels of LONG LEGGED LIZZIE (R. Wiggins).
MISS MARBURG (T. Jeffries) raced wide throughout.
Entering the home straight HONEY BE WARNED was held up behind MISS GIBRALTAR (P. Schmidt) and when endeavouring to obtain clear running shifted out and made contact with LULIN (P. Holmes).
M. Hellyer reported at scale that VALLEY OF SUCCESS was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
Race 6: JIM BEAM QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
AL ALMIGHTY (T. Harrison) and SCORPION PRINCESS (K. Wharton) bumped on jumping.
JAYELEM (A. Spinks) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with CASARATI (C. Munce), then shifted in and made contact with JETTING TO LONDON (K. Yoshida).
JETTING TO LONDON raced greenly in the early and middle stages.
JAYELEM raced wide throughout.
JETTING TO LONDON was held up on entering the home straight and then a short distance later was disappointed for a run between SANSHO DAYU (L. Rolls) and JAYELEM.
Apprentice T. Harrison reported at scale that AL ALMIGHTY was inclined to hang out from the 700m onwards, placing her at a disadvantage. Trainer G. Banks was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of AL ALMIGHTY.
A post-race veterinary examination of A DEAL OF HONOUR (T. Bell) revealed no significant findings.
Race 7: XXXX GOLD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
Connections advised that SEQUALEX (M. Cahill) would be ridden off the speed if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden in a rearward position.
WESTERN MAIZCAY (S. Fawke) was tightened for room at the start between SEQUALEX and EVOCATIVE (J. Morris), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 700m GREY NOT BLACK (T. Harrison) had to be steadied when tightened for room by KINGTANTES (C. Schmidt), which was taken in slightly by EVOCATIVE. In this incident CHINABOB (R. McMahon), which was racing to the inside of GREY NOT BLACK, also had to be steadied. Both apprentice C. Schmidt and J. Morris (EVOCATIVE) were advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Rounding the home turn GREY NOT BLACK hung out.
In the home straight TAILWIND (T. Bell) hung out, forcing EVOCATIVE wider on the track, and near the finish line again shifted out, making contact with that runner. Trainer T. Sears will be advised that after today's performance TAILWIND will be required to compete in an official trial prior to racing again.
A post-race veterinary examination of SEQUALEX revealed no significant findings. Trainer T. Gollan will be interviewed regarding the horse's post-race progress.
Race 8: AINSWORTH GAME TECHNOLOGY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
Correct weight was delayed while J. Morris, the rider of equal 4th placegetter ROCK PAPER SCISSORS, viewed the stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner UNSEEN (M. McKenzie). After viewing the videos, jockey Morris indicated that he did not wish to lodge an objection.
MISS HUSSON (T. Harrison) and BELWINA (B. Appo) were slow to begin.
Apprentice M. McKenzie, the rider of UNSEEN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ROCK PAPER SCISSORS (J. Morris), resulting in ROCK PAPER SCISSORS having to be checked and losing ground. Apprentice McKenzie's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 5 November and expire at midnight on Friday 15 November 2013.
After leaving the 400m SHUFFLEUP AND DEAL (A. Merritt) was briefly tightened for room between FIRST RELEASE (C. Munce) and BULLOVA LADY (A. Spinks), which commenced to lose ground.
A. Spinks reported that BULLOVA LADY commenced to hang approaching and rounding the home turn and in his opinion was sore. Trainer G. Banks will be interviewed.
