STAR DROP (C. Munce) was slow to begin.

Near the 1000m, STAR DROP had to be steadied from the heels of DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN (L. Rolls), which shifted in. L. Rolls, rider of DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN, was reprimanded for this incident.

STAR DROP shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

JUMBO PRINCE (J. Byrne) also shifted in under pressure in the straight on 2 occasions, obliging jockey Byrne to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported at scale that BUTCHER STRIPES raced greenly throughout.

Race 2: Ipswich City Council Benchmark 75 H'cap – 800m

Due to transport difficulties, S. Fawke was unable to fulfil his engagement on ALL IS GOLD and was replaced by J. Byrne.

ARKIBOUM (M. Hellyer) raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: Ipswich Brothers Cricket Club Class 4 H'cap – 1100m

DIXIE FLYER was unable to arrive on course on time as a result of transport difficulties and was declared a late scratching at 11.30 am.

STRIKE ORDER (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.

M. Vance, rider of ROBERT'S COMMAND, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in, forcing OUTBACK BIFF (G. Geran) on to FEISTY LADY (A. Fancourt), resulting in FEISTY LADY being tightened onto VALS BOY (C. Schmidt) and having to be checked. M. Vance was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 31 January, the expiration of a careless riding charge incurred at Eagle Farm on Wednesday, 15 January, and to expire at midnight, 12 February.

Stewards afforded S. Bogenhuber the opportunity to comment on the disappointing performance of STRIKE ORDER. She stated that after electing to race at the rear of the field the horse never travelled comfortably throughout and when applied pressure at the 600m, STRIKE ORDER failed to respond to her riding and proved very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of STRIKE ORDER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Choices Flooring By Mallets F&M Maiden H'cap – 1350m

ALL GINGER, which broke through the barriers prior to the start and travelled a considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 2.13 pm on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ALL GINGER were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

SHOVELS (J. Johnson) began awkwardly.

PAJINGO (R. Ride) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MULTIPLICATION (A. Hearn).

Rounding the home turn, FILLY WONKA (A. Allen) commenced to hang out and was placed awkwardly at the heels of ONLINES (M. Hellyer).

Approaching the home straight, DO SOME GOOD (B. El-Issa) shifted in and bumped MY JOY SUE (S. Bogenhuber).

PAT'S SECRET (S. Apthorpe) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: G.J. Walsh & Co Certified Practicing Accountants CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1350m

JETEYE WARRIOR (M. Cahill) was inclined to hang in in the early and middle stages, and travelled wide for the majority of the race. A post race veterinary examination of JETEYE WARRIOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

After passing the 500m, SKYFALL (M. Speers) commenced to hang out and rounding the home turn forced ZEROMIX (A. Hearn) wider on the track.

Stewards intend interviewing S. Drake regarding her riding of HIDE THE ACE over the concluding stages.

Race 6: Blue Ribbon Motors Class 1 H'cap – 1000m

Connections advised that COUNT KAWANA would be ridden further back from the wide gate. The horse was ridden accordingly.

MAN OF MERIT (D. Missen) was slow to begin, and a short distance later was tightened for room by STARZOU (C. Spry), which shifted in.

RED HOT DE LAGO (A. Hearn) and COUNT KAWANA (C. Small) bumped on jumping away.

Near the 400m, WHAT A SENSATION (T. Harrison) had to be steadied away from the heels of RED HOT DELAGO and shifted in. COUNT KAWANA, which was following, then was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of WHAT A SENSATION (T. Harrison).

MAN OF MERIT was held up rounding the home turn and then was disappointed for a run near the 200m between RED HOT DELAGO and WHAT A SENSATION and had to be checked.

RED HOT DE LAGO raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of MAN OF MERIT revealed it had sustained a laceration to the off fore pastern.

A post race veterinary examination of RED HOT DE LAGO failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Brothers Leagues Club Class 2 H'cap – 1666m

Connections advised that NOVIKOV would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

NOVIKOV (C. Schmidt) overraced in the early stages.

KURRAJONG DRAGON (R. Ride) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Approaching the 600m, NOVIKOV had to be restrained from the heels of CUBIC INCHES (V. Colgan).

WARP NINE (M. Hellyer) was held up from rounding the home turn and then shifted out, making contact with LULLABY LADY (M. Cahill). WARP NINE was again held up and unable to obtain clear running until a point approaching the 100m.

THE CAVALRY (A. Allen) raced wide for the entire race.

Stewards asked R. Wiggins to comment on the performance of GUNDY STAR. He stated from the awkward alley he was obliged to position his mount further back in the field than he would have liked in order to secure a position closer to the fence. R. Wiggins added that this, coupled with the slow pace set during the early and middle stages did not suite the horse's racing pattern, however he was still nevertheless disappointed with the overall performance of GUNDY STAR. A post race veterinary examination of GUNDY STAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Jockey B. Stewart was asked to explain the performance and tactics adopted on EXCEPTION. Of concern to stewards was jockey Stewart's actions in leading, which was in contrast to its most recent starts. Jockey Stewart stated it had not been his intention to lead, however after beginning well he elected to ride forward and cross horses to his inside in anticipation that another horse would improve around him and assume the lead. However this did not occur and EXCEPTION overraced when positioned in the lead, and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. Trainer P. Hulbert indicated to stewards it would now be his intention to freshen the horse up and look for races over 1400m as he was of the opinion that EXCEPTION would run out a strong 1600m. A post race veterinary examination of EXCEPTION failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 8: Marcus Brown Class 1 H'cap – 1350m

HIDDEN DANCER was declared a late scratching at 8 am when the horse was found to be lame near hind leg. Connections were advised that veterinary clearance would be required for HIDDEN DANCER prior to its next race start.

NIELLO'S GIFT (A. Hearn) was slow to begin.

B. El-Issa was questioned regarding the performance of PANTALETTES. B. El-Issa stated that after riding forward in an attempt to maintain the lead, the mare never travelled comfortably from the 800m and he was disappointed in its finishing effort. He added that, in his opinion, the impost of 58 kilograms today may have been a contributing factor in the performance, and he felt he may have ridden the mare too aggressively to hold a position. A post race veterinary examination of PANTALETTES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
