Race 1: XXXX GOOD AS GOLD C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
As apprentice C. Schmidt was injured, apprentice J. Johnson was substituted as the rider of SHOWAMIA.
Trainer B. Robinson advised that J. Taylor will be instructed to attempt to ride RHODRY just off the speed if possible today as the horse has led at its previous starts. After beginning well, RHODRY overraced in the early stages and raced outside the leader.
JIMMY TWISTS (J. Byrne), which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly.
SHOWAMIA (J. Johnson) overraced in the early stages and as a result raced wide for the majority of the event.
I'M CORLEONE (S. Payne) shifted out near the 400m, making contact with BAABAA BAWBAW (P. Holmes).
Approaching the 300m SHOWAMIA shifted in, having to be restrained from the heels of CASINO BLUE (R. Ride).
Approaching the winning post SHOWAMIA shifted in and away from CASINO BLUE and made contact with the hind quarters of BAY DREAMER (T. Banks).
On returning to scale J. Byrne was dislodged from JIMMY TWISTS, giving him a seemingly harmless fall.
Race 2: CORONA F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer P. Moncrieff for the late scratching of JUDGE RUBY at 7.42 am.
TANGENT (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
SHE'S A DAZZLER (T. Bell) and STALWART CRUISE (J. Taylor) were tightened for room on jumping away between WHYDOTHISTOME (J. Orman) and VINTAGE CHOICE (B. El-Issa), which shifted out.
Leaving the 1000m MAZZARINO (R. Wiggins), which had a tendency to race ungenerously when being restrained, had to be checked when crowded for room by VINTAGE CHOICE, which shifted in. Whilst stewards acknowledged the racing manners of MAZZARINO, B. El-Issa, the rider of VINTAGE CHOICE, was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
LA BELLA GRACE (S. Payne) and FLY ME HERE (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 200m VINTAGE CHOICE shifted out under pressure, inconveniencing TANGENT. B. El-Issa (VINTAGE CHOICE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 3: CHANNEL 7 C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M
FAVORITE SHADOW (D. Green) shifted in at the start, bumping WALTER (J. Orman). A short distance later WORLD SERIES (J. Byrne), RINGER (R. Goltz), HOLIDAY (R. Jamieson) and MAJOR BLOT (S. Fawke) were all tightened for room between DANORO LAD (A. Butler), which shifted in, and FAVORITE SHADOW (D. Green), which became unbalanced and shifted out. In this incident HOLIDAY lost ground.
FAVORITE SHADOW, DANORO LAD and MAJOR BLOT raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 200m SKYTASTIC (T. Bell) was disappointed for a run between DHARAVI (E. Ljung) and FAVORITE SHADOW, both of which shifted ground under pressure, until switching to the inside of DHARAVI to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100m DHARAVI, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out under pressure, resulting in FAVORITE SHADOW becoming awkward at that runner's heels and shifting out abruptly, inconveniencing MAJOR BLOT, which was following, which had to be restrained and shift wider. Whilst acknowledging that DHARAVI was racing ungenerously at this point, stewards nonetheless reprimanded apprentice E. Ljung and advised her that she had a responsibility to show greater care when her mounts shift ground.
Race 4: QUEENSLAND TIMES RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1350M
As S. Galloway was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on EASYAYE, R. McMahon was substituted as the rider of that runner.
HI HI (B. Stewart) began awkwardly.
MAN WITH THE PLAN (M. Cahill) shifted out at the start, making contact with TIGERPRINT (J. Orman), which in turn shifted out, making contact with GENERAL KINGSMAN (A. Fancourt).
Shortly after the start TIGERPRINT commenced to overrace and did so for some distance, throwing its head in the air.
KING'S SHILLING (R. Goltz) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Both EASYAYE (R. McMahon) and MAN WITH THE PLAN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
After passing the winning post OLD FEELING (J. Morris) shifted in, placing HI HI in restricted room. J. Morris was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
Race 5: SIRROMET F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M
SHE HAS THE MOVES (V. Colgan) began very awkwardly, resulting in V. Colgan making heavy contact with the outside gate and being dislodged. V. Colgan was examined by the ambulance officers and cleared of any injury.
VINO VOLO (M. Cahill) bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
Near the 500m VINO VOLO attempted to shift out to improve and made contact with STALWART NOVA (J. Taylor).
On entering the home straight PUFF'S GIRL (J. Orman) was disappointed for a run between DO SOME GOOD (J. Johnson) and RIVER GEORGIA (A. Allen), which shifted out. A short distance later PUFF'S GIRL was reluctant to take a run between RIVER GEORGIA and CASTLE HILL (N. Masuda), despite the efforts of its rider, and went to the line without being fully tested.
VINO VOLO was unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested, and leaving the 50m had to be checked from the heels of SO UNFORGETTABLE (N. Tomizawa).
Apprentice N. Masuda, the rider of CASTLE HILL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the winning post he failed to make sufficient effort to relieve pressure to SO UNFORGETTABLE, which was taken in on to the rightful running of ROL'N ROBI (L. Rolls), resulting in ROL'N ROBI making heavy contact with the running rail, shifting out abruptly and dislodging L. Rolls. Apprentice Masuda's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 weeks, to commence at midnight on Sunday 13 July and expire at midnight on Sunday 27 July 2014. L. Rolls was examined by ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his further engagement.
A post-race veterinary examination of ATHANEA revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that ATHANEA would now be ineligible to race for 3 months, and before starting again must perform satisfactorily in a trial over 1000m in the presence of a steward.
Post-race veterinary examinations of SHE HAS THE MOVES and ROL'N ROBI revealed that no injuries had been sustained by either horse.
Race 6: OPTUS RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1700M
HELL'S KITCHEN (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.
NUITS ST GEORGES (J. Morris) began awkwardly.
THAIDAY (L. Rolls) overraced in the early stages.
KURRAJONG DRAGON (R. Ride) overraced in the early and middle stages.
J. Byrne and trainer B. Guy will be questioned at a later date regarding the performance of TARTAN WARRIOR.
Race 7: RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1100M
Trainer M. Dunn advised that although apprentice S. Fawke (ARONSON) will carry the whip, he has been instructed not to use it other than in exceptional circumstances.
After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, T. Bell, the rider of ROMBA TOM, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against BUSH CAVIAR (M. Cahill) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, stewards found that over the concluding stages BUSH CAVIAR did shift in and brush slightly with ROMBA TOM, however bearing in mind the degree of interference, and its proximity to the finish, stewards could not be satisfied that a reversal of placings was warranted and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings.
EMBRAER (P. Holmes) was slow to begin.
HE IS LOYAL (T. Banks), which was slow to begin, was further inconvenienced shortly after the start by BUSH CAVIAR, which shifted out.
ARONSON (S. Fawke) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start BUSH CAVIAR shifted out at the same time as EMBRAER shifted in, resulting in EMBRAER clipping the heels of BUSH CAVIAR and blundering.
Near the 700m ROMBA TOM (T. Bell) had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by I'M A ZULU (S. Payne), which shifted in when improving forward.
Race 8: SCHWEPPES QTIS 3YO BM65 H’CAP – 1200M
ELLIE BELLE (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.
DRAGON MASTER (A. Fancourt) was tightened for room shortly after the start between MARACOOLA (G. Colless) and SANTA FE DREAMING (S. Bogenhuber), both of which shifted ground. In this incident SANTA FE DREAMING shifted in, making contact with the hind quarters of TREASURE MAP (J. Orman) and DRAGON MASTER blundered
MARACOOLA overraced in the early stages.
TIERES ROCK (B. Evans) raced ungenerously in the early stages.
Leaving the 800m LEAD THE WAY (R. McMahon) commenced to overrace for a short distance.
RED DIAMONDS (C. Munce) raced wide for the majority of the event.
DRAGON MASTER overraced in the middle stages.
Approaching the 400m SANTA FE DREAMING, which was hanging out, then shifted in, inconveniencing TIERES ROCK.
Approaching the 200m ISLA POPPY (M. Cahill) improved on to the heels of ROWA'S MARK (R. Ride) and had to be checked and shift wider to obtain clear running.
TIERES ROCK was unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.
Apprentice B. Stower (CHILLS) was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right to the finish line.
