PIROLO – Apprentice M. McGillivray stated that the horse was resuming from a lengthy spell and as such it was anticipated it would race in the second half of the field. He said that after going a short distance PIROLO had difficulty maintaining its position in the track conditions, however then travelled well in the middle stages. He said after the 800m when the tempo began to quicken, he felt PIROLO was travelling well and for this reason he elected to try and stride forward to race behind BELDAN, however from the 600m PIROLO did not quicken as he anticipated and he commenced to ride it along, but it did not pick up as he would have expected, and was somewhat one-paced in the run to the finish. M. McGillivray was advised that it may have been better, bearing in mind the tempo in the middle stages, to have made more endeavour to improve PIROLO's position from the 700m to the 400m.
REAL DYNAMITE – Kicked behind the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

OUR ROCK O'REILLY – J. Byrne explained that after beginning well he was keen to find cover and therefore allowed BROADWAY LASS to cross. He said after doing this the tempo of the race then slowed and for this reason he elected to shift out to the outside of the heels of the leader near the 1000m. He said after doing this, from that point on OUR ROCK O'REILLY never travelled comfortably in the soft track conditions and when ROYALTOWN ROAD improved up around him from the 700m, OUR ROCK O'REILLY appeared to not appreciate racing inside other runners and despite being placed under pressure did not respond and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer P. Duff will be interviewed regarding the horse's post-race condition and future racing plans for the gelding.
