KILCOY RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRI.12.10.01
STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. McLune (Chairman); Mr A. Reardon, Mr W. Birch, Mr J. Williamson (cadet).
WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: POWERS GOLD H'CAP - 1500M.
As M. Gray was to be overweight, M. Paget was substituted as the rider of IDEAL SUCCESS. M. Gray was fined $200.
PEROXIDE jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
TOLGA DAN ran out making the first turn, then shifted back in, briefly tightening CALL UP near the 1000m..
SEQUIK commenced to hang out near the 1000m. and had to be steadied off the heels of KILKENNY PRINCE. SEQUIK continued to hang out for the remainder of the event. Trainer C. Gurney was advised that SEQUIK will be required to trial to the stewards' satisfaction prior to its next race start.
Rounding the home turn, SO BLUE was inclined to lay out.
Trainer K. Hill was advised that ETTA, which finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field, will be barred from TAB meetings until the mare establishes country form.
RACE 2: VB H'CAP - 1060M.
HI ZURF was slow to begin.
Making the first turn, SAHARA LOCH shifted in and made heavy contact with FIRE OF HEAVEN, which in turn shifted in, resulting in TELEWIN become unbalanced.
HONOURS shifted out abruptly approaching the finish line and became unbalanced.
RACE 3: CARLTON MID STRENGTH H'CAP - 1060M.
Apprentice D. Wheeler was permitted to ride TYKE MY SON claiming 1 ½ kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance when trainer L. Paton advised that she required a breastplate on the gelding. D. Wheeler was nonetheless reprimanded.
TYKE MY SON, which was slow to begin, was forced to race wide throughout the event
Shortly after the start, OCEANIA STAR shifted out, hampering MORITASSIE.
At the 800m., SEE YOU IN PARIS shifted out, resulting in MISS MORLEY being momentarily inconvenienced. A short distance later, SEE YOU IN PARIS again shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of BURNAWAY.
BURNAWAY was hampered on the home turn between OCEANIA STAR and the tiring STUMPY JESTER, which shifted in.
After leaving the 150m., MISS MORLEY had to be checked as a result of BURNAWAY shifting in and away from STUMPY JESTER, which shifted in when tiring. Both C. Eaton, rider of BURNAWAY, and M. Tarrant, rider of STUMPY JESTER, were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RACE 4: CARLTON COLD H'CAP - 800M.
After being loaded into the barriers, FOREIGN TOUCH kicked the back gates, making that gate inoperable. As a result all runners were moved one barrier wider. As a result of this incident, CANADIAN MAPLE broke through the barriers and galloped for a short distance. The horse was quickly restrained and took its place in the field.
NOBLE JACKPOT reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground and was retired from the event.. Trainer B. Winchester was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier test certificate for NOBLE JACKPOT prior to its next race start.
GRAND RIO was slow to begin.
Approaching the 600m., CANADIAN MAPLE had to be restrained off the heels of FOREIGN TOUCH, which shifted in when racing greenly.
Making the home turn, GRAND RIO had to be checked to avoid the heels of FOREIGN TOUCH, which commenced to weaken.
RACE 5: CROWN LAGER H'CAP - 800M.
Trainer M. Palmer was fined $50 for failing to produce the registration papers for AURORA AUSTRALIA.
The connections of GLASSY were advised that the mare's nomination would be refused in future until a lease has been effected on the mare.
MY AUNTY DOT, which was kicked by another runner when proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
After being loaded, GLASSY broke through the barriers. The mare was quickly restrained and took its place in the field. Trainer T. Hong will be advised that a warning will be placed on GLASSY in relation to the mare's barrier manners.
AURORA AUSTRALIS was slow to begin.
OUR LURE shifted out shortly after the start, hampering GLASSY.
RACE 6: FOSTER'S LIGHT ICE H'CAP - 1200M.
MUSICAL TOTE and HOUSE OF HORRORS were slow to begin.
Making the home turn, HOUSE OF HORRORS shifted out to improve, forcing SHADOW SHOOTER wider on the track.
SUPREME CHOICE was held up for clear running approaching the home turn, and at the entrance to the straight had to be checked off the heels of MUSICAL TOTE, resulting in SUPREME CHOICE making heavy contact with SMOOTH SOUND.
RACE 7: KILCOY EXCHANCE HOTEL ANNIVERSARY CUP - 1200M.
HAYLA CAB which was seriously injured in an accident at its stables, was declared a late scratching at 12.15 p.m..
STODDART, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
STAR OF ST. JUDE, which broke through the barriers and was quickly restrained, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
STODDART was slow to begin.
TOUGH SWORD, which was slow to begin, shifted in shortly after the start, making contact with the hind quarters of STAR OF ST. JUDE.
SHALARKO was inclined to hang out approaching the 900m., and had to be steadied off the heels of HAIL ROCKET.
STAR OF ST. JUDE hung out at the 600m., enabling TOUGH SWORD to obtain a run to that gelding's inside.
RACE 8: FOSTER'S LAGER H'CAP - 1500M.
As D. Wheeler was unable to claim any portion of his allowance, stewards acceded to a request from trainer R. Dawson to substitute apprentice C. Eaton for D. Wheeler. D. Wheeler was fined $200.
CALL ME SPLINTER blundered making the turn out of the front straight on the first occasion.
Approaching the 800m. IDRIS had to be steadied off the heels of LET'S RAW.
C. Eaton, rider of SAHARA BRAVE, was questioned as to why she elected to ease her mount to a rearward position in the early stages of the event, whereby near the 1200m. she was some 12 lengths off the lead. C. Eaton stated she had been instructed to allow the horse to settle in the early stages, however she conceded she may have erred by not improving her position sooner than she had near the 800m.. Stewards reprimanded C. Eaton and advised her that her ride lacked judgement.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
