KILCOY RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRI.30.5.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr W. Birch (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr G. Ireland, Mr J. Williamson.

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD

RACE 1: BESSIE WALKER H'CAP - 1500M.

Trainer C. Cavanough was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for SILENCE BROKEN by the required time.

MEDIA PLAYER and SILENCE BROKEN were slow to begin.

AURORA ANORA jumped inwards at the start and made heavy contact with HOT TESTIMONY, which in turn shifted in and bumped SHE'S GOT STING.

GIMME SHELTER also jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with COLOUR SERGEANT.

Approaching the 800m., MEDIA PLAYER commenced to hang out, resulting in HOT TESTIMONY having to be steadied off that filly's heels.

Nearing the 600m., PARITA BEACH had to be steadied off the heels of GEMTIME, which shifted in slightly.

An inquiry has been opened into the reason for PARITA BEACH (S. Shield) falling leaving the 400m.. At the inquiry, evidence was taken from R. Goltz, rider of ACAPULCO, A. Kennedy, rider of COLUR SERGEANT and R. Pittman, rider of SHE'S GOT STING. As S. Shield had been transported to Kilcoy hospital for x-rays, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to enable S. Shield to provide evidence. As S. Shield was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements, stewards approved the following riding changes: S. Thurlow as the rider of PACIFIC MELODY in race 4, SKY BID in race 6, and N. Evans as the rider of IMPERIAL HEART in race 8.

At the entrance to the straight, GIMME SHELTER shifted in and made heavy contact with SHE'S GOT STING.

When questioned, apprentice M. McDonald stated that after MEDIA PLAYER received minor contact at the start, the filly commenced to cough and, in his opinion, was breathing abnormally. Therefore, apprentice McDonald retired the MEDIA PLAYER from the race. A veterinary examination of MEDIA PLAYER failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer A. Williamson was advised that MEDIA PLAYER would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start, as well as providing a veterinary clearance for the filly.

RACE 2: BESSIE WALKER H'CAP - 1500M.

As M. Gray was to be overweight, W. J. Cook was substituted as the rider of SHOW'EM THE WAY. M. Gray was fined the sum of $250.

K. Pope, rider of STACKER was dislodged on the turn out of the straight on the first occasion. ESCUTCHEONS, which was racing to the outside of STACKER, became unbalanced, resulting in N. Day being dislodged from that filly. As N. Day was receiving medical attention and unable to be moved from the track, stewards declared the event a No Race, resulting in all riders easing their mounts down the straight. As N. Day and K. Pope were unable to fulfil their remaining engagements, the following riding substitutions were approved. K. Pope: S. Thurlow as the rider of SPORTS CLASS in race 5. N. Day: L. Morrison as the rider of CITICO in race 5, R. Goltz as the rider of REPOSESSION in race 6, W.J. Cook as the rider of STARS IN BARS in race 7. An inquiry into this incident was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

RACE 3: NORMAN WALKER H'CAP - 800M.

WARNING SWITCH was slow to begin.

BLACK IDALIA was held up for clear running for some distance leaving the 400m..

RACE 4: J.D. WALKER H'CAP - 800M.

Trainer J. Hannah was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for SQUIRTIE BOY by the required time.

As P. Moodie was indisposed, W.J. Cook was substituted as the rider of MRS DENVER.

Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether ROJAH SILVER had been afforded a fair start. After hearing evidence from trainer N. Flouskos, jockey L. Appo and starter R. Corvi and viewing the video footage, stewards were satisfied that the horse had been afforded a fair start.

ROJAH SILVER jumped away awkwardly. When questioned regarding his riding of ROJAH SILVER throughout the event, L. Appo, rider of ROJAH SILVER, stated that he was of the opinion that ROJAH SILVER had sustained an injury at the start and for this reason he did not place ROJAH SILVER under any pressure for fear of exacerbating such injury. A veterinary examination of ROJAH SILVER following the event confirmed that the filly was suffering lameness in the near hind leg.

PACIFIC MELODY jumped away awkwardly.

SQUIRTIE BOY was hampered on jumping away between CLAYMORE and SEE DEE GIRL.

ZEEBELLE was inclined to hang in in the early stages.

Leaving the 600m., CLAYMORE had to be steadied off the heels of ZEEBELLE, which continued to hang in.

Approaching the finish line, PACIFIC MELODY improved up on to the heels of MRS DENVER.

RACE 5: THE GOVERNOR WALKER QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1060M.

WILLO ROSE, COME ON IRENE and GO ARNIE were tightened for room at the start between SHOW BIZ KID and VIVENDI.

DOTSWOOD jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of SOVEREIGN WARRIOR.

SPORTS CLASS was found to have bled from both nostrils following the event. Stable representative S. Broderick for trainer B.J. McLachlan, was advised that SPORTS CLASS will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

RACE 6: PAT WALKER H'CAP - 1200M.

IN ON MAGIC was unable to obtain clear running for the entire straight.

RACE 7: WALKER MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M.

As A. Kennedy was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 1 and was stood down from his remaining engagements. L. Appo was substituted as the rider of NETAZI in race 7, and J. Sharp as the rider of YABADABADOO in race 8.

L. Appo, rider of NETAZI, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in leaving the 1000m., resulting in JILLINA BLUE and REGAL GENTLEMAN having to be steadied when crowded for room. Shortly after, REGAL GENTLEMAN commenced to race ungenerously and had to be steadied off the heels of NETAZI. In doing so, REGAL GENTLEMAN shifted out and tightened the running of JILLINA BLUE, which had to be steadied.

RACE 8: HAROLD WALKER H'CAP - 1500M.

TUDOR QUEST made the turn out of the straight awkwardly, taking YABADABADOO, KITNAT and JESTERANA wider on the track. In this incident, GRETZKY was able to improve through on the inside of TUDOR QUEST.

Making the home turn, GRETZKY had to be eased to avoid the heels of the tiring YABADABADOO. In this incident, NAKED SPUR was held up for clear running and had to be eased to avoid the heels of GRETZKY.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
