Race 1: OLSSONS MACDOUGAL CUP OPEN HANDICAP - 900m.
1st - PEAYE ARJAY 2nd - DOUBLE DIP (IRE) 3rd - HOT DICE 4th - HAMINGA

Shortly after the start HOT DICE (Apprentice S. McCullum), shifted outwards and across the running of FABRIC OF DREAMS (T. Hill), which had been slow to begin. No inconvenience was caused to FABRIC OF DREAMS however Apprentice McCullum was advised to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.

Near the 800 metres FABRIC OF DREAMS commenced to over race and improved up onto the heels of BRASS CUTTER (J. Rudd), and was steadied.

Near the 700 metres HOT DICE shifted in and in doing so tightened FABRIC OF DREAMS in onto BRASS CUTTER, which was steadied. At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice S. McCullum was advised to exercise more care in future.

Race 2: BILLY CARTER MEMORIAL CLASS “B” HANDICAP - 900m.
1st - RED SYMPHONY 2nd - TURN 3rd - SHIFTEBOY 4th - RORY‘S PEAK

KATZI (J. Rudd) was declared a late withdrawal at 1.55pm, by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice, after the filly had become very fractious in the barriers, dislodged its rider and then broke through the barriers and galloped for a short distance. The filly suffered injuries to the near hind leg, (RSC Certificate No. 08331). Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all winning bets made prior to the withdrawal of KATZI were to be paid less 28cents cents in the dollar on the face value of the ticket for win bets and less 20 cents in the dollar on the face value of the ticket for the place. Trainer Mr G. WILES was advised by Stewards that KATZI must complete two successful barrier tests before again being allowed to start in a race and also provide a Veterinary Certificate of fitness for KATZI prior to the filly being permitted to race again.

At the start AVOID THE COST (A.Spradau) stood flat footed and as a result took no competitive part in the event. Mr T. SNELLING the trainer of AVOID THE COST was advised that the horse must successfully complete a barrier test before again being allowed to start in a race.

EDENVALE BOY (Apprentice S. Mossman) was slow to begin.

RORY’S PEAK (Apprentice S. McCullum) raced very wide in the home straight.

Race 3: QTIS CLASS “3” PLATE - 1100m.
1st - STELLAR SHOW 2nd - MERRIE VINTAGE 3rd - SHOVE IT 4th - DERMERE

At the start PRINCE JET (Apprentice S. Mossman), began awkwardly shifted out and bumped DEMERE (A. Spradau).

A short distance later PRINCE JET commenced to buck and near the 900m dislodged its rider. Apprentice Mossman did not receive any injuries from this harmless fall. Trainer Mr C. Hampton was advised that PRINCE JET must successfully complete two barrier tests before again being allowed to start in a race.

GALAXY GOLD (J. Rudd) was slow to begin and raced wide during the early stages of the event.

Race 4: JOHN FORSTER PATRONS GIFT CLASS ”1” HANDICAP- 1200m.
1st - BRAVE CLANG 2nd - GREAT DAY OUT 3rd - STARK RAVEN 4th - NIFTY NELLIE

STARK RAVEN (T. Hill) was slow to begin.

At the start GREAT DAY OUT (K. Ballard) jumped in onto PUSHYCAT (J. Rudd), which in turn was taken in onto FLASH JULIET (R. Seymour).

SLIP UP (D. Slack-Smith) raced ungenerously during the early stages.

Race 5: 60TH ANNIVERSARY MAXWELTON CUP CLASS “6” PLATE - 1200m.
1st - SCHUDULE GEE 2nd- CARNEGIE PRINCE 3rd - CHEAP AND NASTY 4th - AUDIT

PRESSURE’S ON (Apprentice S. McCullum) was declared a late withdrawal at 4.26pm by the order of Stewards, after the gelding became very fractious in the barriers and broke through the front of the barriers, dislodging its rider. Apprentice McCullum received leg injuries which required him being taken to the Richmond Hospital for treatment and to date has not been interviewed. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all winning bets made prior to the withdrawal of PRESSURE’S ON were to be paid less 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of the ticket for win bets and less 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of the ticket for the place. Trainer Mr L. Smerdon, was advised that PRESSURE’S ON must successfully complete in one barrier test before again being allowed to start in a race.

GENERAL EISENHOWER (NZ) (J.Rudd) was slow to begin.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
