Race 1: Coalroc Open Handicap – 800 metres:
1st – Stoutfast 2nd - Danzig Warrior 3rd – Premier Resort 4th - Brawny Jack
CASA CARDOSO (D. Simmons) was tightened for room upon jumping between KOUNELI (S. Watkin) and BRAWNY JACK (A. Butler) which began awkwardly and shifted out.
STIPULATION (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of STIPULATION, jockey T. Bannon stated that it was the first time that the gelding had raced on a sand track. T. Bannon also stated that the early speed in the race prevented her from crossing the horses to her inside and as a result STIPULATION was forced to race wide which in her opinon contributed to the disappointing performance. Trainer M. Bannon stated that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle the sand surface. Their explanations were noted.
Race 2: Lucas QTIS Maiden Plate – 1000 metres:
1st – Show Seeker 2nd – Neversaidit’seasy 3rd – Epi Dural 4th – On the Rantan
POT COMMITTED (A. Butler) and NEVERSAIDIT’SEASY (T. O’Hara) were both slow to begin.
GREENROCK (N. Patchett) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the somewhat disappointing performance of ON THE RANTAN, jockey S. Watkin stated that the mare baulked shortly after the start when racing inside other runners and lost ground however, worked home well. Trainer K. Price commented that the mare may have been reluctant to race inside other runners as a result of having been galloped on in its last start. Both trainer and rider noted that ON THE RANTAN was stirred up behind the barriers and felt that this may have had an impact on the mare’s performance. Their explanations were noted.
When questioned as to the improved performance of SHOW SEEKER (D. Simmons), trainer’s representative M. Cosgriff stated that the removal of blinkers since the gelding’s last race start had allowed the gelding to relax in the race which contributed to the improved performance.
Jockey M. Usher advised that MARY OF SCOTLAND was reluctant to stretch out, at any stage, on the sand surface.
Race 3: Minova Class 3 Plate – 1120 metres:
1st – She’s Exciting 2nd – Rocking Melody 3rd – Regal Fox 4th – Abindah
ZANZIDIYM (C. Beets) proved difficult to load. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.
NANNYGAI knuckled badly on jumping and dislodged jockey T. O’Hara. Jockey O’Hara was subsequently examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining riding engagements.
ZANZIDIYM and RED AURUM (D. Simmons) both raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Diahminco Class B Handicap – 1400 metres:
1st – Lets Go Bongo 2nd – Leica Zed 3rd – Posting 4th – Sir Echo
Jockey C. Beets and Trainer K. Mylne were both fined the sum of $50 under the provisions of AR 140A when IRISH ICEBERG was presented to race in the incorrect saddlecloth.
IRISH ICEBERG (C. Beets) and REGALLY SWEET (T. O’Hara) were both slow to begin.
CLASSIC ONE (D. Simmons) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
When questioned as to the somewhat disappointing performance of SIR ECHO, trainer K. Price stated that SIR ECHO was unable to go forward, as per its normal racing pattern, due to its outside barrier and the early pace in the race, which she felt contributed to the gelding’s performance. Jockey S. Watkin added that despite this SIR ECHO was able to finish off the race reasonably well and as such he was not entirely disappointed with the gelding’s performance. Their explanations were noted.
Race 5: Moranbah North Mine Cup Class 4 Handicap – 1550 metres:
1st – Krystalate 2nd – Repeat Offender 3rd – La Friand 4th – Sabi Sands
Upon returning to scale jockey D. Simmons the rider of second placegetter REPEAT OFFENDER lodged an objection against the winner KRYSTALATE (A. Buttler) alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking into consideration the evidence put forward by the riders and trainers and after viewing the patrol footage, Stewards were of the view that KRYSTALATE had shifted in under pressure and as a result had made contact with REPEAT OFFENDER over the concluding stages. However Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered by REPEAT OFFENDER warranted a reversal of the placings and as such the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared on the numbers semaphored by the judge. Apprentice A. Buttler was subsequently reprimanded for failing to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting ground.
SPINNING MASTER (T. O’Hara) pulled hard in the early and middle stages and as a result had to be checked from the heels of SABI SANDS (T. Bannon) near the 800m.
FROG (S. Watkin) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of FROG, jockey S. Watkin stated that the gelding was not suited by the pace in the early and middle stages of the race. S. Watkin added that FROG was better suited when allowed to relax in its races and sprint home but was unable to do that today due to the early pace. His explanation was noted.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
