Race 1: BP Class B Handicap – 1120 metres:
1st – SUNSET DANCER 2nd – SAVVY DONNA 3rd – AMPERES – BELLA PRINCIPESSA

At the start SAVVY DONNA (S. Watkin) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with GIVE IM ZA (T. Bannon).

SAVVY DONNA (S. Watkin) blundered near the 600 metres and lost ground.

Race 2: G&S Engineering Class 5 Handicap – 1120 metres:
1st – TAKE A STAND 2nd – MAGIC PEARL 3rd – LOLA BRIGIDA 4th – TAUPIN

CRAIGLEA CONVICT (S. Sheargold) became fractious in the barriers and as a consequence was slow to begin on jumping away.

CRAIGLEA CONVICT raced wide in the early stages then commenced to over-race for a short distance leaving the 800 metres.

When questioned as to the performance of TAUPIN, Jockey Merritt stated he was able to obtain a position just off the speed in the early stages and travelled comfortably throughout. Jockey Merritt added that he shifted wider on the track near the 400 metres to obtain clear running and placed the gelding under pressure at which point it failed to respond as expected and finished the race off only fairly. Jockey Merritt was of the view that the 59kg impost may have contributed to the somewhat disappointing performance of TAUPIN. The explanation was noted.

Jockey M. Barnham was permitted to ride TOKYO TANGO 1 kilogram over the allotted weight as there was no other rider available. Jockey M. Barnham was reprimanded for failing to ride TOKYO TANGO at the allotted weight under the provisions of AR120(a).

Upon returning to the enclosure after the running of this event LOLA BRIGIDA collapsed after suffering a suspected fatal cardiac arrest. A post mortem of LOLA BRIGIDA was undertaken by the Veterinary Surgeon, the results of which will be furnished to Racing Queensland Limited at a later date.

Race 3: Arrow Energy QTIS Maiden Plate – 1120 metres:
1st – SARBI 2nd – BOSSY BOOTS 3rd – NOT LEGAL 4th – EUREKA PEARLS

GOLD ORPHAN (M. Usher) and NOT LEGAL (S. Watkin) came together at the start.

EUREKA PEARLS (T. O’Hara) jumped out at the start.

LOOKING AT LACE (S. Sheargold) hung in for the majority of the straight.

T. O’Hara the rider of EUREKA ORPHAN reported that the mare had resented the kickback in today’s event. Jockey O’Hara added that once she shifted EUEKA ORPHAN wider on the track near the 400 metres away from the kickback and placed the mare under pressure it responded to her riding and finished the race off well.

Race 4: BMA Open Handicap – 1400 metres:
1st – TESTATUDE 2nd – REGAL MOUNTAIN 3rd – BEAU DE LAGO 4th – RED AURUM

TESTATUDE (M. Usher) was difficult to load. Trainer Mrs L. Peterson was advised that TESTATUDE would be required to obtain a barrier certificate in a jump out before the gelding is permitted to start again.

RED AURUM (A. Merritt) was slow to begin.

REGAL MOUNTAIN (S. Sheargold) raced wide for the entire event.

When questioned as to the performance of SEA DYNASTY, Jockey Bannon stated that the gelding was never comfortable on the dirt surface and is better suited on grass surfaces. Jockey Bannon added that she placed the gelding under pressure near the 800 metres in an effort to improved its position however, it responded only fairly and in her view proved disappointing.

Race 5: QR National Class 2 HADICAP – 1200 metres
1st – JOE KWILA 2nd – SUPPREME QUALITY 3rd – ANGLE PLACE 4th - LUCKY MONEY

DESERT PATROL under went a veterinary examination at the request of Jockey Watkin behind the barriers and was found to be short in its action. DESERT PATROL was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:37pm on the advice of the clubs veterinary surgeon. All bets made on DESERT PATROL were to be refunded with deductions of 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of all win tickets and 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place tickets. Trainer I. Shaw was advised that a veterinary certificate of clearance would be required before DESERT PATROL was permitted to race again.

ANGLE PLACE (M. Usher) reared at the start then hung out for the entire event.

When questioned as to the performance of SUPREME QUALITY, Jockey Merritt stated that the gelding failed to muster any speed in the early stages and was then caught 3 wide in the middle stages of the event. Jockey Merritt added that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 800 metres at which point SUPREME QUALITY responded to his ridding and found the line well despite the impost of 59 kilograms. Stewards noted the explanation.
